‘French Touch’ Trip-Hop/Electro Pioneer DJ CAM Set to Release ‘Seven’ October 24

With his upcoming album SEVEN, the critically acclaimed electronic artist DJ CAM serves up his most personal work since 2001’s acclaimed Soulshine. Inspired as ever by the original jazz and hip-hop influences that helped him become one of the founders of the trip-hop/electro scene back in 1995, SEVEN—due out October 24 on his Inflamable Records—is also full of exciting new music

Following the album’s release in late October into early November, DJ CAM will set off on a DJ tour with Blockhead, appearing at boutique clubs in such cities as Denver, Houston, New Orleans, Austin, Dallas, Chicago, Seattle, Portland and San Francisco. He is also confirmed for two Southern California appearances: the major electronic music festival Nocturnal Wonderland on September 24 and the Ooh La La Festival, celebrating French music with Birdy Nam Nam, on October 1 (see dates, cities and venues below).

Written in Paris and Los AngelesSEVEN is an album that possesses an enveloping, melancholic tone and wide-open soundscapes designed to help make minds wander: “Swim” feat Chris James, frontman for British electronic alternative rock band Stateless, is a taste of this adventure and is the first single from the new album. With the album version and a radio edit, the EP of “Swim”—now available via all digital outlets—also features remixes by Parisian alternative act Blackjoy, U.K. newcomer Cuttooth and multimedia artist Conforce. Its stunning melancholic music video was directed by highly acclaimed French fashion photographer Sonia SieffJason Bentley of KCRW calls "Swim,” “… pure bliss…A summer anthem," while Dimitri From Paris adds "Excellence and lush sophistication as always from DJ Cam," and Bob Sinclair simply states, “Beautiful.”

Chris James is also present on tracks “Ghost” and “Uncomfortable” and there are hints of old school electronica (“Dreamcatcher”) as well as cinematic ambient tracks that invite you to dream (“Seven,” “California Dreaming”). For a feminine touch, DJ CAM adds the vocals of Inlove, a new signing on his Inflamable label, and Nicolette, long-time collaborator with Massive Attack, the legendary group that DJ CAM feels closer to now than ever before and to whom he dedicates the album.

As a mainstay of the French Touch (he started his career in the 1990’s together with Daft Punk, Air, Cassius and Bob Sinclar), DJ CAM has released six albums, helmed a number of side projects and given countless performances all around the world, helping him to acquire global notoriety. His 2002 single “Summer in Paris” with Anggun sold over 1,000,000 copies and remains an emblematic tune of the Parisian belle vie.
