This coming November 18th, Tommy Cappel, better known as ‘Sidecar Tommy’ from Beats Antique, will join the judging panel at the 4th Annual Golden Tarp Awards, California’s premiere light deprivation cannabis competition, in Humboldt County, CA. This will also be an opportunity for Tommy to share his personal story on how cannabis has helped heal his life-long problem with epileptic seizures. The competition will take place at The Mateel in Redway and will feature, for the first time ever, a multi-camera feed live-streaming broadcast of cannabis competition judging.

To access the live-streaming broadcast, please tune into www.thegoldentarp.com before 11am. Giveaways will take place on the hour every hour for those tuning in online or in person starting at noon.

Part of the Emerald Triangle, Humboldt is known for its long history of craft cannabis cultivation at scale, a rich library of genetics and growing that goes back generations. Sidecar Tommy’s job will be to judge the top cannabis flower in the competition and help choose a winner alongside professional judges, cannabis industry notables, other special judges including Sari Gabbay of Cannabliss Retreats, Ophelia Chong of Stock Pot Images and a dozen lucky event attendees who win a spot to judge alongside them.

Sidecar Tommy is a beatmaker, drummer, and co-producer of the world-renowned electro-gypsy trio known as Beats Antique. Sidecar Tommy creates music that brings the dirtier beats to the forefront. Using his 30 years of experience as a drummer, fusing with state of the art production tools, the original score is vast, raw, and properly sculpted for sound systems big or small, culminating in a collage of music that hits. With roots steeped in The Yard Dogs Road Show, the Extra Action Marching Band, Tommy Cappel’s solo work is where you get over 30 years of his experience in beats, unfiltered.

He started learning about the healing aspects of cannabis when he moved to the Bay Area in the 90s and realized that cannabis could help minimize the troublesome epileptic seizures he had faced for over 20 years since he was 14. As more scientific research and stories on cannabis became available, he spent 15 years studying what strains help his seizures as well as express himself musically.

Tommy explains “As I found the right CBD cannabis strains and combined it with my other pharmaceuticals, I was able to stop my seizures for five years and in 2014 was able to completely stop taking pharmaceuticals due to the right mix of CBD cannabis, eating organic healthy foods, reducing sugar intake and using food grade Frankincense essential oil, among other things.”

He’s now a big advocate for cannabis and wants to share his story to raise awareness about its medicinal benefits, empower others on their healing journeys, and encourage others to do their own research on how CBDs and cannabis can work alongside existing meds or as alternatives to prescription drugs.

“I’m excited to participate in the Golden Tarp Awards as I’ve never judged before. It’s intriguing to do something new, to join this community and learn from the people who think about cannabis on a daily basis.”

Join Tommy in Garberville, CA for the Awards and maybe even win a chance to judge alongside the other judges. If not, be sure to watch the event on the live stream November 18th starting at 11am on the Speaking Sessions feed with our athlete panel featuring Pete ‘El Duro’ Williams, recent 2016 UFC Hall of Fame inductee and others.
