Circles Around The Sun Meets Joe Russo

Circles Around The Sun and Joe Russo have announced the October 18 release of a new four song EP simply entitled, 'Circles Around The Sun Meets Joe Russo.' The electrifying collection stems from a completely improvised recording session at Russo's Brooklyn studio earlier this year. The collaboration, which has been kept secret up to this point, was mixed by legendary recording engineer Jim Scott whose Grammy Award-winning work includes albums by Tom Petty and Tedeschi Trucks Band and Circles Around The Sun's bassist Dan Horne who has an impressive production/mixing discography in his own right with artists like Cass McCombs, Allah-Las and Mapache. The first single from the EP, "Peace Reprise," is out today on all streaming platforms. Limited edition vinyl and download formats are available now for pre-order.

"All of the members of CATS have been friends with Joe Russo for years between our collaborations with Phil Lesh, Cass McCombs and others. We thought it would be a great idea to do a  project with him, so we met up in a studio in Brooklyn and wound up creating four songs in one day," explains guitarist Neal Casal. "The session had a true CATS in the moment vibe with explosive improvisation, double drums between Joe and our drummer Mark Levy, conversational guitars with me and Dan, and plenty of Adam Macdougall keyboard wizardry."

"I was excited when Neal reached out about the possibility of this collaboration. Having played with Neal and Adam many times before over the years, and my time spent with Dan on Cass Mccombs gigs and sessions, it felt like a no brainer. I was also psyched to do some double drums with Mark, especially in this context. Hope to do it again one day," says Joe Russo.

Circles Around The Sun, often shortened to CATS by the band's fans, has also added eight tour dates in October and December. It's already been the busiest year yet for the ensemble who initially formed solely to record set break music for The Grateful Dead's "Fare Thee Well" concerts in 2015. Based on the response to those recordings, however, they've quickly grown into something bigger than ever imagined. In October, they'll make their debut in Seattle and Portland, while returning to California for headline shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento. They'll close out 2019 and ring in 2020 with a run of Colorado dates in December, including The Gothic Theatre in Denver and New Year's Eve at Ivy Ballroom in Buena Vista.
