Hangout Festival is partnering with the nonprofit organization Conscious Alliance to host an ‘Art That Feeds’ food drive at this year’s event. All attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate, which will benefit the Bay Area Food Bank. Anyone that donates 10 non-perishable food items will receive a free, limited edition commemorative event poster created by Roman Villagrana.

Conscious Alliance is a Boulder, Colorado based national nonprofit organization committed to the redistribution of much-needed food to the impoverished communities of the United States. Operating through ongoing, grassroots food collection and hunger awareness programs throughout the U.S.—mostly by organizing food drives at concerts and music events—donations to Conscious Alliance benefit America’s local food pantries and economically isolated Native American reservations. Since their first event in 2002, Conscious Alliance has hosted hundreds of food drives at music festivals including Bonnaroo, Power to the Peaceful, and Wakarusa, and at concerts by artists such as Jack Johnson, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Franti & Spearhead, The Dead, The String Cheese Incident, STS9, and many others. The organization’s hunger relief efforts have resulting in the redistribution of over one million pounds of food.

Conscious Alliance has experienced much success collecting food through their partnership with music festivals over the past nine years, and believes that the Hangout Festival food drive could be another excellent example of the generosity of festival attendees. “It’s a great way for festival-goers to give back to the local community,” says Jenny Mueller, Administrative Director for Conscious Alliance. “Our ‘Art That Feeds’ initiative of giving free posters to those who donate has been very successful in encouraging people, particularly the younger generation, to actively participate in food drives.”

Conscious Alliance will be collecting all donations at the ‘Art That Feeds’ gallery inside the festival grounds. To find out more information about Conscious Alliance, please visit www.consciousalliance.org.
