Greensky Bluegrass Becomes RRE for Halloween @ Hangtown Ball

The peak at this weekend’s Hangtown Halloween Ball came during Saturday’s late-night set when Greensky Bluegrass hit the stage, as the festival hosts, Railroad Earth.

Music and costumes blended when Railroad Earth drummer Carey Harmon appeared behind the kit with the costumed Michigan quintet as they kicked things off with the RRE classic “Long Way to Go”.  Fans were treated to a set of Greensky Bluegrass completely and fantastically donned with Railroad Earth’s members’ trademark garb. Greensky banjoist Mike Bont dressed like Andy Goessling, mandolinist Paul Hoffman recreated John Skehan’s vibe, guitarist/vocalist Dave Bruzza became Todd Sheaffer, bassist Mike Devol became Andrew Altman and Greensky’s dobro extraordinaire Anders Beck fashioned his set as Tim Carbone. The late-night set included Greensky classics as well as bluegrass covers performed by both newgrass groups including “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox” and many more.

Greensky Bluegrass continues their tour this week in Montana before another Halloween weekend in Seattle & Portland. They’ll wind down the California coast with stops at The Fillmore, Troubadour and Belly Up before finishing their epic two-month tour with two nights at the Gothic Theatre in Denver, CO November 15 and 16. Holidays bookend the year with Thanksgiving weekend at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo November 29 and 30, then a jaunt to Mexico for Strings & Sol, before a New Year’s Eve celebration at The Intersection in Grand Rapids, MI.
