In The Community

In search of Winddancer: Sarahjoy, a new arrival, headed over to the In Search of... People topic because she's in search of her birth father. Back in the summer of '79, in Eugene, Oregon, her mother met a young Dead Head who called himself Winddancer. They were together briefly, but by the time Sarah was born he was long out of the picture and she doesn't know his real name, though his first name might have been Jonathan. Now an adult, she'd love to solve this family mystery.

If You're Going to San Francisco: Visiting Canadians Kirsten (krs10) and her partner are getting excited about their impending trip to SF from late July to mid August. In addition to the various Days Between festivities, there's the Outside Lands festival. Meanwhile, Deadicated is coming to town in July to run a half marathon. Locals - offer suggestions of where to go and what to see.

On March 26, 2011, intrepid reporter David Gans went to Airshow Mastering in Boulder, Colorado to get the inside scoop on the progress of the mammoth Europe '72: The Complete Recordings boxed set. He sat down with Grammy-winning engineer David Glasser to shed some light on the process of mastering this extraordinary release. Tune in here.

Symphonic Dead: Bob Weir's First Fusion Concert

It should come as no surprise that the Marin Civic Auditorium was completely sold out for their May 7th concert dubbed “First Fusion: A New Renaissance.” More than a year in the making, the one-night only event presented Bob Weir and members of RatDog, playing with classically trained musicians from Quartet San Francisco and the Marin Symphony on a program of Grateful Dead songs - all newly arranged for the 10-piece string and horn ensemble, 12-voice choir and 40-piece orchestra. Blair Jackson delivers the highlights from this fascinating and inspiring evening here.
