Moog Music is excited to announce its new partnership with Paxahau, the Detroit based producer of the Movement Electronic Music Festival and Detroit Jazzfest. The two companies are coming together to co-produce Moogfest 2014 taking place April 25 - 27, 2014 in Asheville, North Carolina. Moogfest is the annual festival created by Moog that celebrates the innovative spirit of its founder, Dr. Bob Moog.
The iconic synthesizer manufacturer has been quietly re-tooling its 9-year strong festival, including designing a new logo, to better reflect Moog’s culture of creativity, technology, and musical innovation. Mike Adams, President of Moog Music, has always been committed to keeping the festival in Asheville, but wanted to see it evolve. "We set out to find a new partner with a real understanding of the dynamic history of electronic music, and that has a deep appreciation for the impact Bob Moog's inventions have had on musical expression and creation. After working with them for three years on their festival in Detroit, we knew Paxahau was the right choice to help us take Moogfest 2014 in the direction we envision," said Adams.
In its fifteenth year as a production and promotions organization, Paxahau has become a recognizable name throughout the industry, most notably through their production of Detroit’s legendary Movement Electronic Music Festival.
“We are excited to be a part of Moogfest and its tradition of honoring the legacy of Bob Moog. We’ve developed a great relationship with our friends at Moog Music over the years and look forward to working with everyone in the Asheville community as we progress towards Moogfest 2014,” said Jason Huvaere, President of Paxahau.
The new springtime dates for Moogfest 2014 allow for daytime programming in which the intersection of music and technology will be showcased against the backdrop of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains. "Moogfest is not just about Moog or music, it's about celebrating the creative, forward-thinking spirit of both Bob and the city of Asheville. We'll shine a light on inventors, new media artists, circuit benders, programmers, and people with ideas that could change the way we experience music, art and performance." said Emmy Parker, Moog's Senior Brand Manager. The additional programming will compliment Moogfest's tradition of leading edge musical performances from a line-up that pays homage to the early pioneers of electronic music, established giants and the artists pushing musical expression forward today.
Bob Moog recognized that Asheville was a uniquely supportive community for people with new ideas. “Dr. Moog was the ultimate inventor-entrepreneur and he chose Asheville as the home pf Moog Music for a reason. He was a beloved member of our community and Moogfest is the perfect event to highlight Asheville as a hotbed for entrepreneurs in our area that are developing groundbreaking technologies,” said Pam Lewis, Director of Entrepreneurship, Asheville Economic Development Coalition.
This is a special year for Bob Moog, as it was announced last week that he is being inducted into The Inventors Hall of Fame in May. "It's amazing to have Bob's achievements recognized on a wider scale. Moogfest is a way for us to invite a larger community to celebrate him and others like him, that push creative expression forward" added Parker.
Past Moogfest performers include Keith Emerson, Orbital, Thomas Dolby, M83, Massive Attack, Tangerine Dream, Amon Tobin, St. Vincent, Richie Hawtin, Squarepusher, Bernie Worrell, Flying Lotus, The Flaming Lips, Terry Riley, Richard Devine, Rodelius, Hot Chip, and many others.
