Shovels & Rope Win Song of the Year @ 2013 Americana Awards

The Charleston, SC duo Shovels & Rope entered the Americana Awards & Honors last week leading all nominations with four. The multi-talented husband & wife team of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent left the historic Ryman Auditorium that evening with two of the top honors, Song of the Year (“Birmingham”) and Emerging Artist of the Year. During the ceremony, Shovels & Rope performed “Birmingham” to a capacity crowd and received a rousing ovation.

The AMA nominated Album of the Year, O’ Be Joyful came out in July 2012 and garners high praise from the press, including Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Associated Press, Filter, Nylon, and more (View Highlights). 2013 has been an even more incredible year for Shovels & Rope as they firmly made their presence known during debut appearances at major festivals including Coachella, Newport Folk, Lollapalooza, Sasquatch, Hangout, Forecastle and Wakarusa. They continue to add to the growing list of sold out shows during their current headlining fall tour. NPR recently posted their Tiny Desk Concert performance (View Here) and the two are the subject of a “Talk Of The Town” feature in the current issue of The New Yorker (View Here).

Earlier this year, Shovels & Rope made their national television debut with a captivating performance on The Late Show with David Letterman (View Here). They will make their debut on PBS’ Austin City Limits on October 19, as well as their debut appearances at the Austin City Limits Music Festival on October 4 & 11.

On November 26, Dualtone Records will re-issue, for the first time on vinyl, the duo’s 2008 debut collaboration, originally titled Shovels & Rope by Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent. The album‘s title was a foreshadowing of what would become the duo’s permanent moniker just a few years later. The re-issue will be titled Shovels & Rope by Shovels & Rope, and will include and a CD copy of the album. Shovels & Rope can be pre-ordered at dualtonestore.com.
