Sunshine Blues Fest After Dark: Flannel Church & Susan Tedeschi

After the sun set on the Tedeschi Trucks Band's inaugural Sunshine Blues Festival, which featured performances by Dr. John and the Wood Brothers, Atlanta's rootsy rhythm & blues quartet Flannel Church hosted the fest's official after party just down the road at the Funky Biscuit. Drummer Duane Trucks and bassist Kevin Scott settled into a hard-hitting groove early, putting new frontman Marshall Ruffin's vocals on display in songs like "Tailor" and "Make It Rain", before surprise guest Susan Tedeschi joined in on a daunting cover of the Bill Withers classic, "Grandma's Hands" and the old gospel tune, "Wade in the Water." Flannel Church will return to Florida April 18-20 for an encore performance at the Wanee Music Festival hosted by the Spirit of Suwanee Music Park in Live Oak, FL.

About Flannel Church: Born from an infectious groove drummer Duane Trucks and bassist Kevin Scott discovered at an impromptu jam session in Atlanta's historic Little Five Points district, Flannel Church's lineup initially came together under the watchful eye of rock legend Col. Bruce Hampton. Fronted by vocalists Marshall Ruffin and Lawson Feltman on lead guitars, Flannel Church brings a hard-hitting gospel stomp to their soulful American blues. From swampy late nights on Frenchmen Street to blazing hot shuffles on the Carolina coast, the group leaves an indelible mark on listeners, ushering in a new generation of Southern roots music.
