T Bird and the Breaks To Release Series of 45s/Digital Download Today

T Bird and the Breaks, the 10-piece Austin soul/funk band that has proven itself to music writers, longtime fans and new audiences with its debut album, LEARN ABOUT IT (January 2009), will release a new 45 each month, starting with “Monkey Wrench” and its B side “Nightshade Mary” today, Tuesday, November 3.

The new music will be released as 45s available to the band’s fans at its dynamic live shows and on its Web site and as digital downloads. The 45s will be sold with the digital version. For more information, visit www.tbirdandthebreaks.com.

The beat-driven “Monkey Wrench” features a had-enough lyric and precision horns, and “Nightshade Mary” — well, itsplucked-up bass, retro vocals, bongos, harmonica and swamp-voodoo vibe say funk better than the word itself.

Gambit Weekly praised the band’s cool groove: “The gravelly R&B growls, the sassy call-and-response backup singing, the tenor sax struts and hot blasts of trombone-blown air — Austin address or no, T Bird and the Breaks is a Crescent City band at heart.”

November show dates for T Bird and the Breaks include Hattiesburg, Miss., and Macon, Ga. The band is on the bill for the 7th Annual Ski Jam in Steamboat, Colo., in January.

On Tuesday, December 1, the band will release the second 45, featuring “Juju Baby.”
