Saturday at Lockn’ was a beautiful sigh between Phish’s weekend bracketing headlining sets.  And the sigh is this: the scene is in a great place now. With the music of the Grateful Dead as a sustaining anchor, jam, electronic music, Americana, and Indie bands are forging a great new collective chapter in authentic, improvised American music.

The last day of Rhythms on the Rio began as Day Two did with a free yoga class from the good folks at YogaDurango. This festival inaugurated yoga last year as a special addition to the line up of great music, good food and brews, and the awe-inspiring Colorado landscape. After yoga, the festival had an open stage, also on days two and three for children’s performances. These were local kids who were part of the music program that Rhythms on the Rio sponsors.

There was a stir of anticipation throughout the festival grounds in South Fork CO as Day Two of Rhythms on the Rio opened. Headliners always get festival-goers hyped, and today we were seeing some of the best of the best.

One love, one heart!  The Rastafarian mantra and philosophy of the ‘I and I’ was on full display for all to feel, touch, embrace and to be embraced by.  For those who do not know, but would like to, I will explain. I and I is an expression of the singularity of being, the animating divinity of the soul as an expression of our Divine Creator. It is the concept of oneness. 'I and I' can be conceptualized as being the oneness of two persons, as well as our inherent unity with the Creative Source of all life, or Jah as the Ras Tafaris call it.  I am you. You are me.
