Absynth Quintet just released of their long-awaited album, Telepathy of Glowbugs. The 12-track self-released album features a number of brand new songs along with special guest sit-ins with Matt Eakle (David Grisman Quintet) on Flute and Sony recording artist Jenny Scheinman on Violin. The band will hit the road this fall armed with an extensive tour schedule in support of the new album including performances with Leftover Salmon and a festival appearance at Railroad Earth’s Hangtown Halloween Ball this October.

One part Django and 2 parts foot stomping bluegrass the Absynth Quintet incorporates all of the usual bluegrass suspects including guitar, bass, mandolin and banjo into the mix --- however with the addition of drums, the group takes the music a step farther --- giving a solid backbone to soaring strings and at times classic americana feel. With music that could have easily been written during the height of the bluegrass era of the 1960’s, the 5-piece masterfully imbibes a vintage sound while maintaining a storyline and musical approach that is fitting for today.

In fact, the group consistently weaves pop culture and humor into much of their material, giving it a refreshing take on more serious traditional bluegrass. Songs like “Pray for rain” depict a love scene with UFO’s and colliding satellites, while “Boomerang” tells a cautionary tale about indecision. But it’s not all fun and games with Absynth Quintet, the group’s serious musicianship borderlines virtuosic and is loaded with creativity. There is no doubt they will pick your feet up and get them moving along with their signature bluegrass rhythms.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the Absynth Quintet is their undeniable ability to entertain a live audience with fun stage banter and high energy performances all the while maintaining their celebrated top-notch musicianship. Driving rhythms, vocal harmonies and fun tempo changes are the keystone of the Absynth Quintet, and they don’t disappoint in the live setting or in the studio.

Over the years the band has shared the stage with the likes David Grisman, Railroad Earth, Emmitt-Nershi Band, Devil Makes Three along with show-stopping festival performances scheduled around the country. The project will hit the road this fall and will be playing throughout the winter along the western seaboard in support of their release, Telepathy and Glowbugs.
