Giant Steps is on a mission to create and curate innovative musical approaches to social good and solving global issues. Formed in 2016 by Drew Foxman, Giant Steps aims to build a field for “social impact music” where music can take its rightful place in society as a springboard for transformative change. As such, Giant Steps has launched Music Action Lab, a social impact incubator for musicians. The Music Action Lab 1.0 was a huge success and resulted in the critically acclaimed album Foundation, which The Huffington Post described “When music goes beyond an arbitrary arrangement of pleasant sounding notes, it becomes an instrument of change…Combining the minds of these nine innovative musicians establishes an approachable dialogue that utilizes the ubiquity of music.”

The Music Action Lab 2.0 features nine musicians across the globe including Rona Nishliu(Vocals) from Kosovo, Sevana Tchakerian (Accordion, Vocals, Flute) from Armenia, James Brandon Lewis (Saxophone) from the U.S., Kauzeni Lyamba (Flutes, Sax, Percussion, Vocals) from Tanzania, Erika Oba (Piano, Flute) from Japan/USA, Avery Waite (Cello) from the U.S., Chris Bastian (Bass) from the U.S., Ernesto “Matute” Lopez (Drums) from Nicaragua, and Kasiva Mutua (Percussion, Vocals), from Kenya.

The four week lab sessions are spread throughout the Bay Area, CA, but end in their fourth week in Ixtapa, Mexico. Dates and locations can be found here.
