Buddy Guy

Craft Recordings is pleased to announce two special reissues from celebrated blues icons Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. Both legends in their own right, their synergistic musical partnership prompted Rolling Stone to dub the duo "the Original Blues Brothers." Throughout the '60s and '70s, they were frequent studio and stage collaborators, and together produced stunning live performances and some of their finest recorded work.

How many lead guitarists does it take for one to sufficiently experience Jimi Hendrix? Well, according to the Experience Hendrix Tour that rolled through the Mondavi Center in Davis, California, on Feb. 22, the correct answer is seven. Now gone for 46 years, the music and legend of Jimi Hendrix, still recognized as among the top rock guitarists of all time, still survives and flourishes.

Guitar icons Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy have drastically differing backgrounds and history, yet the two fared perfectly in a double bill for an extensive U.S. Summer tour that just made its way through the West Coast. Beck is hailed as one of the finest guitar innovators in history, as member of the Yardbirds (amongst Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page,) followed by an illustrious solo career with backing musicians including Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Nicky Hopkins, and many others.

“You’re damn right I got the blues,” Buddy Guy sang out as he opened his headlining set at the annual Russian River Jazz and Blues Festival in fiery northern California on Sept. 13. Without this legend, other legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page would not have been who they are. Guy was the bridge between the blues and rock n’ roll.

On Sunday, the revelers at the second annual Mile High Music Festival were granted a temporary reprieve from the heat.  The sky was cloudy, and lo!  The grounds were clean!  The night before, as I waded through a sea of discarded plastic beer cups, it occurred to me that perhaps a better way to save the planet would have been to sell freely refillable beer cups, in the hopes that folks would use the same cup all day, rather than burning through five or six.  Now I’m all in favor of just about any recycling program you could think of, but refillable beer

By all accounts, Gathering of the Vibes 2007 was a huge success on every level. The four-day festival, August 9-12, brought together musical artists, staff and an estimated 20,000 attendees from all across the nation to celebrate music, camping and camaraderie, and all agreed that the Vibes return to Bridgeport, CT, was triumphant.

The Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel near Morton, Minnesota, tried a new experiment this past fall. Though their gianormous outdoor Amphitheater offers racing and big name country entertainment, they have never brought in high caliber blues acts.
