LES CLAYPOOL’S DUO DE TWANG

Friday at Wakarusa began with sunshine and high fives. It was an awesome day. Despite the fact I put on sunscreen 5 times, I still got a sunburn. But I got to see a fair amount of music and found a lot of friends I had been hoping to see. Overall, great day!

The iconic and Grammy-winning rock band YES have announced their first-ever festival--YESTIVAL, a day-into-night musical adventure in full quadraphonic sound--for Saturday, August 3 at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ.

Along the lines of Woody Guthrie’s this Land Is Your Land, The Hollows came together from a few regions of the United States.

I feel the need to offer a disclaimer at the beginning of this review.  I do not work for anyone at DelFest.  I have nothing to gain regardless of what I write about DelFest, within this review. And it’s also important to note that I’ve been to each and every DelFest, and also happened to review them for Grateful Web, since the event began, 6 years ago. I say all of this now, as I’m about to gush... A lot..

Maura McCoy, eldest daughter of former hippie benefactor Don McCoy, has announced that she will produce a feature-length documentary about Olompali State Historic Park, site of the commune established by her father in 1967. “Olompali: A California Story” will be directed by Gregg Gibbs, whose documentary “The Treasures of Long Gone John” premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2005.The film will recount the colorful history of the former Rancho Olompali, located 3 miles north of Novato in Marin County.

At the first Wakarusa Music Festival they were invited to, Jeff Austin, mandolin player for Yonder Mountain String Band, says the band was so unknown he was frisked by security because they didn’t believe he was a band.

Now playing the tenth Wakarusa Music Festival, the band is in a very different place.

We’re about an hour away from kicking off the music here on the second day of the tenth annual Wakarusa Music Festival at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Ark.After a rough first day of shows getting rained out and mud EVERYWHERE, I have high hopes that things will start to dry out at least by the time we leave Monday. Right now it’s pretty overcast, but I haven’t seen any rain yet.

Walkarusa. Mudarusa. Funarusa. There are lots of alternative names for Wakarusa here on Mulberry Mountain. Although most of them aren’t very clever we use the names anyway. So far, it’s been more Mudarusa than anything. But I’ve only been here a mere day, and I can’t wait to see what this weekend gives us!

Sweet. Swirly. Pure. If you want to get with any of these words musically, Donna the Buffalo offers these sounds and feelings in each and every song.  The band’s new album, Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday, drops 6/18/13 featuring founding members, songwriters and lead vocalists Jeb Puryear and Tara Nevins. Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday offers 14 tracks to get you in a nice state of mind.
