Magos Herrera & Beat Kaestli @ Drom, Dec. 7th

Magos Herrera & Beat Kaestli- for the Grateful Web

Mexico's Magos Herrera is considered one of the most beautiful voices and the most active vocalist of the contemporary Latin American jazz scene and Esquire Magazine quotes "Beat Kaestli's emergence as a vocalist bespeaks a life full of experience. Like Jazz itself, his willingness to adapt and improvise has given rise to a unique young man and artist." Magos and Beat met in New York City a year ago and immediately felt a connection in each other's music and as artists in this vibrant Metropolis. Soon they performed as guests at each other's live shows and recordings. Now, Magos and Beat will bring their exciting mix of Jazz, R&B and Latin rhythms to Drom NYC, featuring vocal duets and songs from their current solo projects.

Magos Herrera:
A dazzling, accomplished singer-songwriter and known for her beguiling rhythmic scatting, inflected with soulful Latin-Andalusian phrasings, Magos Herrera is known for her signature sound that elegantly blends her classic jazz styling with Mexican, Cuban and Brazilian melodies. Based in NYC since 2007, she has recorded with Saxophonist Tim Ries for the Rolling Stones Jazz Project and for contemporary composer Paola Prestini for John Zorn label. For over 10 years Magos has performed in international arts centers, at festivals and concert halls such as Lincoln Center, NYC, Millennium Park in Chicago, Knitting Factory, Teatro de la Ciudad de Mexico, Sala Galileo and Galilei in Madrid among others.

Magos will be releasing her 6th CD spring 2009 featuring guitarist Lionel Loueke and pianist Aaron Goldberg produced by Tim Ries, saxophonist of The Rolling Stones.

Beat Kaestli:
Beat Kaestli moved to New York from his native country of Switzerland, receiving a scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music (BM) and graduating from the Aaron Copland School of Music with an MA in 2008. Since the release of his 2005 Jazz debut "Happy, Sad and Satisfied", he has toured the world and his unmistakable blend of Jazz, classical and contemporary vibes thrills audiences everywhere. In New York he has performed in renowned clubs, such as The Blue Note, Birdland, The Bitter End, The Jazz Standard, The Stone and Sweet Rhythm, performing with Jazz greats, like Esperanza Spalding, Clarence Penn, Joel Frahm and Victor Prieto.

Beat is now putting the finishing touches on his latest CD "Far From Home – Dedicated to European Song" scheduled to be released in 2009.

Todd Snider @ Boulder Theater

Todd Snider- for the Grateful Web

Keith Richards said humor was rock and roll's greatest weapon, Bob Dylan proved it and Todd Snider takes it to heart. For twelve years, Snider has been a satirist, class cutup and the rare artist who understands and celebrates the connections between the Stones, Dylan, Bill Hicks, John Prine, Mitch Hedberg, Kris Kristofferson, Hunter S. Thompson and Randy Newman. Snider's records are fun even when they aren't being funny, funny even when they're sad, and no less truthful for the laughs.

For fans of rock 'n' roll, folk, country and Americana music have long been held in Snider's sway. His last album, 2006's The Devil You Know, landed him on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With David Letterman, and it appeared on numerous year-end Top 10 lists. Peace Queer, his newest release, is just the beginning of his typically unique vision. It is the first in a trilogy. Even as we celebrate the release of Peace Queer, Snider is already working on the follow-up, with Rolling Stones producer Don Was. After that, there will be a rock album called Shit Sandwich.

New Little Steven 'Coolest Songs' Collection Brings Good Luck

Little Steven ''Coolest Songs''- for the Grateful Web

On November 25, Wicked Cool Records released the latest installment of Steven Van Zandt's irresistibly eclectic collection of rock music, 'Little Steven's Underground Garage Presents the Coolest Songs in the World Vol. 7,' this time featuring songs by Elvis Costello and The Imposters, Flogging Molly, John Fogerty, Kaiser Chiefs and R.E.M.

"You can try having a party without this album blasting your bad luck into oblivion," cautions Van Zandt"but I wouldn't recommend it." As he did for the previous volumes in the 'Coolest Songs in the World' series, Little Steven studiously scoured the world for the best music, picking tracks that give this new compilation "a little bit of everything that's cool."

Here's what Little Steven has to say about 'Coolest Songs in the World Vol. 7':

"We start with Swedish Surf Rock (Hawaii Mud Bombers) and Mother Truck ("Streets of Atlanta") right through R.E.M.'s neighborhood ("All The Right Friends") all the way to a "Shady Grove" (Mudcrutch) where we get the singular pleasure of Flogging Molly ("Requiem For A Dying Song"). We've got the Dead But Never Better (Rocket From The Crypt) and Born Again But Never Nastier (The Doughboys) and you want born again? We've got nothing less than "Mother Mary" herself (Foxboro Hot Tubs) and she brought along her own Catholic Girls ("Rock'n America"), we've got Guys (Big Midnight), "Dolls" (Primal Scream), "Gangsters" (Elvis Costello), Pigeons ("I Found Out"), a "Riot" goin' on (Kaiser Chiefs) and a "Longshot" you'd bet on every time (John Fogerty)."

'Coolest Songs in the World Vol. 7' Track List:

1. "Dolls" - PRIMAL SCREAM
2. "All The Right Friends" - R.E.M.
3. "Black Sheep" - THE DOUGHBOYS
4. "Mother Mary" - FOXBORO HOT TUBS
5. "Doin' All Right" - BIG MIDNIGHT
6. "Longshot" - JOHN FOGERTY
7. "I Predict A Riot" - KAISER CHIEFS
8. "Johanna Beach" - HAWAII MUD BOMBERS
9. "American Gangster Time" - ELVIS COSTELLO AND THE IMPOSTERS
10. "I Found Out" - THE PIGEON DETECTIVES
11. "Heart Of A Rat" - ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT
12. "Rock'n America" - THE CATHOLIC GIRLS
13. "Streets Of Atlanta" - THE MOTHER TRUCKERS
14. "Requiem For A Dying Song" - FLOGGING MOLLY
15. "Shady Grove" - MUDCRUTCH

And while 'Coolest Songs in the World Vol. 7' is out just in time to be the soundtrack to your most rockin' Thanksgiving yet, Steven's also making sure that you'll be rockin' around the Christmas tree, too: his rarities-packed 'Little Steven's Underground Garage Presents Christmas A Go-Go' is out now (also from Wicked Cool Records), featuring the coolest from Keith Richards (available for the FIRST time on CD), The Kinks, The Ramones, Bob Seger, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, Darlene Love, and even Joe Pesci. Stryker/Slagle Band Monday Dec. 1st @ The Blue Note

Stryker/Slagle Band- for the Grateful Web

Here on their fourth release as co-leaders of a dynamic quartet, West Orange guitar ace Dave Stryker and NYC-based saxophonist Steve Slagle continue to mix the jazz tradition with the music's more forward-looking side. The results can be deep and bluesy one moment, more angular and abstract the next. As on Slagle's "Skee," a spunky, riff-built whose theme resolves warmly. Here, Slagle and guest tenorman Joe Lovano explore the tune's edges while Stryker comes in like a seasoned bluesman with his hearty remarks. The guitarist's title track is of a contemporary lyrical bent, as the leaders and bassist Jay Anderson wax song-like, modern-style, with drummer Victor Lewis creating colorful washes along with a stirring ride beat on his cymbals. Slagle's alluring "Six Four Teo" has a similar lyrical sense - with telling solos - but with a percolating 6/4 rhythm.

Incus - 'Fire and Bone'

Incus- for the Grateful Web

Drawing on influences from Middle Eastern, Native American, African and Eastern European musical traditions, Incus is redefining the American Tribal music movement. The combination of keyboards, accordion, violin, and cello with male and female vocals creates a beautifully haunting soundscape, replete with mesmerizing rhythms capable of inducing trance-like states.

Incus expresses a willingness to embrace the totality of human emotion, both light and dark. An Incus performance is a gathering of people who come together to live and breathe the challenge of being alive, to raise the energy to move toward ecstasy. The element of fire both illuminates and transforms, and it is this energy that Incus embodies while holding space for people to acknowledge the dark and move toward the light.

Incus' music has moved many a dancer since the band's formation in the mid-nineties. Indeed, the band's live act has featured performers of many stripes for years, particularly belly dancers, fire and flag spinners, and shadow dancers, among others. More than just a band, Incus has become an important anchor for a community of creative performers, providing the musical and energetic foundation for creative expression both onstage and in the audience.

Their newest single, "Dancer Through Time," is set to a video that portrays some of the Incus experience, featuring the band and many other performers. A teaser can be seen on the band's website. The song is also featured on a recently released DVD as part of the Fantasy Belly dance Series: Desire, produced by World Dance New York. The song accompanies a dance performed by Naraya of Vadalna Tribal Dance Company.

This embrace and transcendence of duality extends to the very modes of performance themselves. Incus is equally at home rocking out onstage at clubs and bars "plugged in" and electrified as they are performing in their acoustic power at fire festivals around the country. They have gained appreciative followings from these diverse settings. During the last four summers, Incus toured over 20,000 miles, making music at over 100 fires, and at various festivals and venues.

The core members of the tribe include composer Jason Cohen on vocals, keys, accordion, and percussion; Jacob Sirois on drums and percussion; and Chris Baum (Dropkick Murphys) on violin and vocals. For the summer of 2008, they will be joined at different shows by Billy Woods, Michael Wall, and Liron Peled (Raquy and the Cavemen) on percussion; Eli Carlton-Pearson on guitar; Kellianna and Katy Q. on vocals; and Kira Meade.. Dancers Naraya of Vadalna Tribal Dance Company and Sarah "Jezebel" Wood will accompany the musicians.

Jason Cohen, the visionary force of the band, has experienced numerous healing and expressive arts rituals around the United States, Mexico, and recently, Costa Rica. His knowledge, experience, and training as a ritual facilitator becomes a part of every Incus performance. Jason is also known for his work developing the interfaith spiritual Forestdance Gatherings, which have taken place in 5 US states as well as in Costa Rica. These are powerful transformational ritual gatherings designed to bring people into their full power through sacred fire circles. As the facilitator for these events, Jason is a community organizer, deeply committed to empowering people and communities while doing his best to honor all life on the planet.

Guerilla Union Partners w/ HipHopOffical for RTB Charity Auction

gweb says: support charity auctions!- for the Grateful Web

Guerilla Union, the promoters for the 2008 Rock The Bells International Festival Series, has partnered with Hip Hop Official to present the first-ever Rock the Bells online charity auction. All proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

From December 1 through December 15, 2008—just following Diabetes Awareness Month (November)—fans can go online to bid for various pieces of memorabilia from the 2008 tour.  Featured items include two custom limited-edition Rock the Bells skateboard decks signed by all 2008 RTB artists including Nas, Mos Def, members of De La Soul, The Pharcyde, ATCQ and more.  In addition, several 2008 RTB artists and labels are getting involved by donating special autographed pieces, such as sneakers from Supernatural, a prize pack from Duck Down Records, plus many more.

Inspiration for getting involved with this great cause is Phife Dawg, member of A Tribe Called Quest and a diabetic. During the 2008 Rock the Bells festival series, he displayed tremendous strength and resilience through his current battle with the disease. According to Phife Dawg, "Believe it or not, diabetes affects us all.  Until we find a cure it will continue to affect us. I was lucky to have a 2nd chance at life, others aren't so lucky, so please help us find a cure for this madness we call DIABETES!"  Chang Weisberg, Guerilla Union founder, states, "Phife was an absolute inspiration to myself and our staff.  His courage and strength to perform night in and night out for Rock The Bells was nothing less than extraordinary.  We are extremely excited to join his fight against this serious and deadly disease by giving back to the community through this auction.  With November being Diabetes Awareness Month, our goal is to bring national attention by sharing a piece of hip-hop history with our fans."

To read more about the auction and learn about diabetes, people can visit the official website or visit www.hiphopofficial.com. Instant updates about new items up for bid will also be available by texting CHARITY to 44688.
