The Blackberry Bushes Stringband pairs a love for traditional genius with a distinct ability to innovate. Both come across beautifully in the modern string band’s new album, Three Red Feathers, set for release on August 28, 2015.

A blend of bluegrass and American folk sounds, Three Red Feathers is a cohesive collection of original songs centered on impermanence and imperfection. Accomplished bandmates tackle their subject matter with precision. They include Jakob Breitbach (fiddle), Daniel Ullom (mandolin), Forrest Markowitz (bass), Alex Genova (banjo) and the group’s founder and singer-songwriter, Jes Raymond (guitar, clawhammer banjo).

A hiker and self-professed lover of the mountains, Raymond writes with pen and heart open to lessons learned from nature and from the urban life that surrounds her. The juxtaposition of the two environments is not lost on Raymond, who relays both the hardness and wonder of life in songs like “Brown Bird,” and “The Lady Of The Mountains.”

Other Three Red Feathers highlights include “Little White Sin,” “Around The Bend,” and the title track, a fiddle-centric groove about getting on with this thing called life. Encouraging listeners to do just that, Raymond sings, “After you aim, you gotta let it go.”

Taking their own advice, The Blackberry Bushes Stringband has taken aim and is eagerly going about the business of sharing their music with fans across the northwest and the rest of the country. Their chemistry is contagious. Witness it in person at a show in your area!
