Furthur

Furthur is a rock band founded in 2009 by former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh. The band's lineup also includes John Kadlecik of the Dark Star Orchestra on guitar, Jeff Chimenti of RatDog on keyboards, and Joe Russo of the Benevento/Russo Duo on drums. Jay Lane left Furthur after the March 12, 2010 show to rejoin American funk metal/rock band, Primus.

In 2008, for the first time in four years, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh began performing together, with a reunion of The Dead. A few months after The Dead's 2009 tour the musicians announced that they had formed a new band with Kadlecik, Chimenti, Lane, and Russo.

The band debuted with performances on September 2009, at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, California. They followed those shows up with a handful of more dates during 2009 including 5 shows in the northeast, as well as live rehearsal sessions and two New Years shows in California. During the New Years eve performances the band was joined by backing vocalists Zoe Ellis and Sunshine Garcia Becker. Ellis and Becker remained in the line up for the remainder of the tour. The band then toured the U.S. from the 2nd of February through the 8th of March 2010, and performed in San Francisco to celebrate Phil Lesh's 70th birthday. In February 2010, official announcements were released that the group would be performing at three music festivals in the summer of 2010, first at the Nateva Music & Camping Festival in Oxford, ME on July 4th, followed by the All Good Music Festival in Masontown, WV the next weekend July 8 and 9. July 10 and 11th they performed at the Mann Center in Philadelphia PA. Then Gathering Of The Vibes in Bridgeport, CT July 29th-Aug 1. In addition to the three festivals on the east coast Furthur brought back the "Furthur Festival" at Mountain Aire in Angels Camp, CA on Memorial Day weekend May 28-30th, 2010. On March 18, 2010, Phil Lesh posted on popular fan site PhilZone.com announcing that drummer Jay Lane had left the group to rejoin Primus. Furthur will be touring up and down the east coast starting March 4th, 2011 in Boston. This tour will include multi-night runs in smaller venues than the late winter 2010 tour this past November. The 2011 tour will include a 5 night run in NYC at the Best Buy Theater, a 3 night run at Radio City and another 5 night run at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA and many more dates on the east coast in March.
