2011 Hoxeyville Music Festival | Manistee Forest

Nestled away in the Manistee National Forest in the northern part of the mitten lie the beautiful grounds that Hoxeyville Music Festival calls home. The ninth installment of the festival proved to be one of the most exciting and eclectic lineups to date.

The Game samples Guster on New Album

West coast Hip Hop icon The Game sampled alt-pop pioneers Guster on his new song "Pot Of Gold" featuring Chris Brown.  The track is featured on The Game's new The R.E.D. Album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, and features a large portion of the Guster classic "Rocketship" from the band's 2007 classic "Goldfly". You can watch the video for The Game's new Guster-sampled track here, and read a a witty Q&A the band did regarding the song on their website.

The band will be donating a portion of the money they earn from "Pot of Gold" to the Crittenton Women's Union.  Drummer Brian Rosenworcel offered this statement regarding their reaction to being sampled for this song, as well as their reasoning for choosing Crittenton Women's Union to donate their proceeds.  "Mostly we're flattered to have been sampled in a hit song.  I don't think it'll send droves of people out to discover our "Goldfly" album, but we're excited that we can make a donation to a worthwhile charity with money that comes in from this.  I have a friend who works at Crittenton Women's Union in Boston, and they do great work helping survivors of domestic abuse become economically independent".

The band is currently on tour with Jack's Mannequin in support of their new E.P. On The Ocean. Even Hurricane Irene couldn't keep the band off the road, as they ran into some pretty crazy weather on route.  They documented their experience with Irene here, as they made their way from New York to their show that night in Indiana.  Check out their remaining dates below.

James Elkington & Nathan Salsburg Release Guitar Duo Album

Albums of guitar duets are rare. Albums of guitar duets featuring one American and one Englishman, synthesizing their particular geographically specific approaches in a collection of new compositions, are even more rare. Not since Stefan Grossman and John Renbourn's partnerships of the 1970s has there been such a happy reconciliation of Merrie Old England and the good old USA, in which baroque meets the blues, music-hall steps out to ragtime, and Benjamin Britten sits down with Blind Blake.

James Elkington moved from London to Chicago around the turn of the millennium and has since released a string of albums as leader of The Zincs for Thrill Jockey Records.  After dissolving the band in 2008, Elkington has concentrated on acoustic, folk-tinged music with his band The Horse's Ha (that he shares with Freakwater's Janet Bean), culminating in the release of their debut album, Of The Cathmawr Yards in 2009. He is also the owner/operator of a clunky solo career, and moonlights convincingly as the guitar player in Jon Langford's (of The Mekons) Skull Orchard.

Nathan Salsburg is best known as an archivist and producer for the Alan Lomax Archive, curator of the Twos & Fews vernacular-music imprint on Drag City Records, and host of the "Root Hog Or Die" program on East Village Radio. But after a 2007 move from New York City back to his childhood home of Louisville, Kentucky - and the inclusion of a track on Tompkins Square's "Imaginational Anthem, Volume 3" compilation - he discovered adequate time, space, and energy to devote to guitar playing.

Elkington suggested a leap of faith into a collaboration, despite the fact that the two had never previously played guitar together. Avos, then, hither and thither over several seasons, between a porch in Louisville and a kitchen in Chicago, slowly took shape. Aptly, the name comes from the Russian word for the confident approach to new situations, and the faith that nothing tragic will occur once in them.

James Elkington & Nathan Salsburg play their record release show on Sunday, October 9th at The Hideout in Chicago. More shows will be scheduled in the coming weeks.

The band will perform two sets (acoustic & electric) and the performance will feature guests Karl Denson (Greyboy Allstars, Tiny Universe), Ian Neville (Dumpstaphunk, Funky Meters), and Don Carlos (Black Uhuru), with plenty of surprises in store. In between sets, fans can partake in the first-ever live Stoopid Q&A from TRI Studios, communicating with the band via onscreen Facebook and Twitter feeds.

TRI Studios is a state-of-the-art performance studio, broadcasting live HD video and audio streams via the Internet. The show will air live at www.tristudios.com at 6:00pm PDT, and will also be offered on re-played at 9:00pm PDT. Each Streaming costs $10.00 for access. Tickets are on sale now for both showings and can be purchased by visiting www.tristudios.com or clicking the banner at www.SlightlyStoopid.com. Band members will also be featured speakers at the SFMusicTech Summit on Monday, September 12, 2011, in support of this high profile, groundbreaking broadcast.

Slightly Stoopid is currently on their Seedless Summer 2011 Tour making 25 stops in all, including some of the country’s best outdoor venues, such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA, and Cricket Amphitheater in their hometown of San Diego, CA. As The San Diego Union-Tribune recently reported, “Headlining Cricket for the third year in a row is a coup for the Ocean Beach-based group -- a feat unmatched by blink-182, Jason Mraz, Jewel, P.O.D. or any other nationally prominent San Diego act, past or present.” The complete list of Slightly Stoopid’s Seedless Summer 2011 Tour dates is included below.

Formed in 1995 in San Diego, CA’s Ocean Beach by childhood friends Miles Doughty (guitar, bass, vocals) and Kyle McDonald (guitar, bass, vocals), Slightly Stoopid has become one of the most influential and progressive improvisational musical outfits on the tour circuit. As Amped Up Magazine points out, it’s for good reason. “Slightly Stoopid have perfected one of the rarest and most valuable skills a band can develop: the art of the stealth groove.” Always a festival favorite, Slightly Stoopid has performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, Milwaukee Summerfest, Wakarusa, and many others. With their two most recent albums both debuting on Billboard and iTunes charts, the band has sold over 750,000 albums and now releases all material on Doughty and McDonald’s own record label, Stoopid Records.

The String Cheese Incident Announces 2011 Fall Dates

Today, The String Cheese Incident announced their first multi-city run in four years. “Roots Run Deep” 2011 begins Thanksgiving weekend and travels through southern and eastern U.S. historic venues including Atlanta’s legendary Fox Theatre, a return to the newly re-opened Georgia Theatre, Nashville’s landmark Ryman Auditorium (with a special acoustic first set), and a two-night stand at New York City’s magnificent United Palace. The full list of tour dates is included below, and tickets go on sale beginning August 25 at www.stringcheeseincident.com.

The String Cheese Incident has only made limited appearances since 2007, so “Roots Run Deep” affirms the band is back together and ready to rock. In 2009, SCI sent waves through the music community when they broke their almost three year silence by announcing they would play a headlining slot at the second annual ROTHBURY music festival. The performances were downright epic, and left fans old and new - and the band themselves - wondering what was next.

In 2010 and 2011, SCI played a handful of sold out multi-night extravaganzas at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, 1STBank Center, and Horning’s Hideout, and a monstrous “Hulaween” run at Hampton Coliseum. In addition, SCI performed much buzzed-about festival plays at Bonnaroo’s 10 year celebration and the inaugural Electric Forest, where SCI anchored the cutting-edge festival with three headlining performances - and seamlessly bridged the gap between the jamband and electronic music communities once and for all.

Recent live Incidents have proven that The String Cheese Incident continues to evolve, and that the band is more musically inspired and unified than ever. “All of us feel that our recent Incidents have been some of our best yet,” explains SCI’s Keith Moseley. “We are excited to get on the bus and play again in such historic venues.” Michael Kang adds, “It’ll be great to immerse ourselves on the road for a bit. There is nothing like the groove we get into when we play nine shows in ten days. It will allow us to take even more chances.”

TICKETS to SCI Fall Tour 2011: Pre-sale begins Thursday, August 25 at 10am MDT at www.stringcheeseincident.com, with public on-sale on beginning Friday, August 26 (or Saturday, August 27 depending on the tour market) at 10 am MDT at www.ticketmaster.com.

Concurrent with the band’s long-standing ethos of giving back to communities and causes, The String Cheese Incident is looking forward to supporting Conscious Alliance, HeadCount, and Waterkeeper Alliance this Fall Tour.

Live recordings of each show along the Roots Run Deep 2011 will be made available for download. Presale is going on now at www.livecheese.com.

Rose Hill Drive at Fox Theatre | 10.15.11

Z2 Entertainment is proud to present Rose Hill Drive with Dax Riggs at the Fox Theatre on Saturday, October 15th.  Tickets go on sale Friday, August 26th for $15.00 in advance and $17.00 day of show.

Following a two year hiatus, except for one gig opening for Jane’s Addiction on New Year’s Eve in 2009, Boulder-based rock and roll band Rose Hill Drive has returned to debut the addition of new member bass player Jimmy Stofer and an entire album’s worth of brand-new material.

In 2003, guitarist Daniel Sproul, his vocalist brother Jacob and childhood friend drummer Nate Barnes began practicing in the basement of the house on Rose Hill Drive in Boulder, Colorado that the Sproul brothers grew up in. Since then, they’ve released two full-length albums, 2006’s self-titled debut and 2008’s “Moon Is The New Earth,” several EPs, and developed a worldwide fan base. In 2009, the trio went on hiatus.

In the ensuing months, Jacob switched from bass to guitar, bassist Stofer came on board, and the newly formed quartet began writing new material, which eventually became the band’s third studio album, 2011’s “Americana.” Stofer was previously a member of such local favorites as Hello Kavita and Dualistics.

Rose Hill Drive’s raw, emotive rock has earned the group high praises from both critics and fellow musicians alike. The band has opened for Wilco, The Black Crowes, Queens Of The Stone Age, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Stone Temple Pilots and The Who, among others.
