Greyboy Allstars & Dumpstaphunk | Cervantes | 4/12/2013 | Review

The veteran cast, all-star group of talent called the Greyboy Allstars is back on the road in support of their newest album entitled, Inland Emperor, which the tour is aptly named after. They started it all off with this two night run at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, which is one of my favorite indoor venues in Colorado.

Members of Kyle Hollingsworth Band, Motet, YAMN & More Pay Tribute To The 90's

As the hair bands of the 80's receded into the mist of Seattle’s Grunge scene, Hip-Hop, dancing divas and boy bands hit the mainstream.  No matter your flavor, the music of the 90's offered a little something for everyone and now it’s time to relive it all!

The Skatalites | Cervantes | Denver, CO | 3/20/2013 | Review

When the opportunity to see one of the catalysts of a certain genre of music presents itself, the general inclination is to get up off of the couch and learn something while boogying down. Considered to be amongst the earliest purveyors of the ska movement born out of Jamaica, and directly influencing what has come to be known as reggae, The Skatalites are a treat of a band led by the sole surviving founder, Lester “Ska” Sterling on alto saxophone.

The Motet | Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom | 1/19/2013 | Review

I’ve said it so many times to so many different people, “go see the Motet”. I tell my jam friends, my womp friends, and even my white rapper friends, “go see the damn Motet”.  Anybody that has ever listened to me has been completely blown away. Most people have just never had that much funk in their face before, so it’s understandable when they complain about a neck pain the next morning.

Grateful Web Interview with The Motet

Grateful Web’s Evan Marks recently had a chance to catch up with some of the guys from Denver-based, The Motet. The Motet were playing a couple of shows to help celebrate Cervantes’ 10th Anniversary. The guys talked about their origins, influences, Jam Cruise and some of their favorite Motet shows thus far.

Head for the Hills | Cervantes | Denver, CO | 12/1/12 | Review

It’s plainly obvious to see how hardworking Colorado acoustic quartet Head for the Hills has been this past year. They played their first main stage appearance at the 39th Telluride Bluegrass Festival, released their first official live album “Head for the Hills Live” and are hard at work assembling their third studio album.

Kyle Hollingsworth Band Hoppy Holidays

Kyle Hollingsworth Band will close out 2012 with the return of Hoppy Holidays in Colorado, which will feature Eric Krasno (Soulive) as a special guest at Hodi’s Halfnote in Fort Collins and two evenings with Soulive at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in De

Infamous Stringdusters | Cervantes | 11/10/2012 | Review

One of the more humorous developing attitudes of newer bluegrass acts is that they don’t like applying the label “bluegrass”. Though their instrumentation, song selection, and style all point to an existing form. The trend seems to be that up-and-comings feel marginalized by being cornered into accepting the label. In certain ways I understand this fear. Donning the title of a “bluegrass” band makes its musicians pressured into accepting a certain catalogue of songs and a limiting context in which they can expand and improvise their instrumentals.

The Funk Ark 2012 Summer Tour Continues in Chicago

After a highly praised 2011 debut, Washington DC’s The Funk Ark surprised the critics with a soon and even tighter follow up album: High Noon. In just a couple of years since the release of From The Rooftops on ESL Music, the world funk ensemble has established itself as one of the strongest players in the scene both in the studio and with their high-octane live performances.
