Bela Fleck & The Flecktones 2011 & 2012 Tour

Bela Fleck and The Flecktones have announced more dates for 2011 as well as a bunch of tour dates in 2012.   Check out their extensive tour dates below.

Béla Fleck is often considered the premiere banjo player in the world. A New York City native (named after composer Béla Bartok), he picked up the banjo at age 15 after being awed by the bluegrass playing of Flatt & Scruggs. He began experimenting with playing bebop on the banjo in high school. In 1982, he joined the progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival, where he made a name for himself in the country-bluegrass world. At the same time he was releasing a series of solo albums for Rounder Records.

In 1989 he formed the Flecktones. They made their self-titled debut recording in 1990 by playing a "blu-bop" mix of jazz and bluegrass and soon became a commercially successful, critically-acclaimed and award-winning band. (Fleck--the only musician to be nominated for Grammys in jazz, bluegrass, pop, country, spoken word, Christian, composition and world music categories-- also recorded solo releases including 1994’s Tales from the Acoustic Planet and last year’s The Bluegrass Sessions--Tales from the Acoustic Planet Volume 2.)

Béla, commenting on the Flecktones’ "raging eclecticism" in the May 2000 issue of Down Beat: "The more diverse the audience there is, the better. If you’ve got people who would normally be jazz fans sitting in the same room with people who love bluegrass, some funk fans who love Victor, some Deadheads, it turns into this roomful of happy people who are all real different."

Béla began the new decade by inking a deal with Sony Music that will result in five recordings for the label: two albums for Sony Classical and three albums for Columbia Records: a solo outing for the jazz division of the imprint and two releases by his celebrated category-defying band the Flecktones.

Hurricane Bells Launches PledgeMusic Campaign for Sophomore Album Tales and Tides,

Hurricane Bells today launched a PledgeMusic campaign to support the completion of its sophomore album, Tides and Tales, which will be released this fall via band architect Steve Schiltz's own label, Invisible Brigades.

As with Hurricane Bells' debut album Tonight Is The Ghost, Tides and Tales was recorded, produced, and mixed almost entirely by Schiltz (longtime front man of Longwave) over the past few months. The funds raised through PledgeMusic will directly contribute to the mastering, manufacturing, touring and promotion of the album. For pledging, multiple incentives are offered to fans, including exclusive vinyl, signed CDs and t-shirts, a house concert by the band, and a vintage Gibson guitar, among many others. Fans who pledge will also be able to stream new album track "Let's Go" immediately via the Hurricane Bells PledgeMusic page.

Hurricane Bells has chosen to donate a portion of all campaign proceeds through PledgeMusic to Education Through Music, a nonprofit organization that promotes and supports music instruction in disadvantaged schools. For more information on the Hurricane Bells PledgeMusic campaign and to view a full list of pledge incentives, please visit here. Additional news about the release of Tides and Tales will be announced soon.

Hurricane Bells is playing a stripped-down show in New York tonight at CULTUREfix to celebrate finishing recording Tides and Tales. Doors are at 7pm and tickets are $10. To purchase, visit here.

Earlier this spring, Hurricane Bells digitally released two live albums, Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues Boston and Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues San Diego. The two albums were recorded last fall during the band's tour supporting KT Tunstall. The band released an EP, Down Comes The Rain, last September and Tonight Is The Ghost, in the fall of 2009. The Hurricane Bells song "Monsters," a Tonight Is The Ghost B-side, was featured on The Twilight Saga: New Moon official soundtrack.

Santah Premieres New Song & Tour Dates

Santah was born with their feet planted in the ground and their heads in the clouds. Composed of guitarist/vocalist Stanton McConnell, drummer Steven Plock, bassist Otto Stuparitz, and Tommy Trafton on keyboards, the quintet met at the University of Illinois and with their debut full-length record, "White Noise Bed," they have assembled a kaleidoscopic opus whose reach extends far beyond the Midwest.

Recorded at the late Jay Bennett's Pieholden Studios, where the band found its niche among the studio's forbearers of psychedelic Americana, "White Noise Bed" has a yin and yang aesthetic: sometimes sunny and sometimes stormy, but always running on audible elation. The band takes its cues from the power pop greats of the 70's such as The Raspberries and The Cars, and dresses them in a twangy haze, full of clever, lyrical nooks and crannies ala Wilco and Whiskeytown.

After finishing the record last May, Stan's sister Vivian joined the band, adding her passionate vocals and thoughtful guitar. They have since been touring the country and building their cult following; performing multiple sets at CMJ, SXSW and the Pygmalion Music Festival, and sharing the stage with the likes of Surfer Blood, Cults, Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, Pomegranates and Young the Giant.

Santah isn't just something the listener hears, it's something they feel. Be it a tropical aura of relaxation, the bittersweet mystery of growing up, or the lulling memory of a past love, Santah creates an original sonic journey for all.

Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues Boston is now available via iTunes. The band's first live album, Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues San Diego, was released in late March.

The brainchild of Steve Schiltz, longtime front man of Longwave, Hurricane Bells has released one EP, Down Comes The Rain, in addition to the one full-length album (and its deluxe edition) via Schiltz's own label Invisible Brigades. Schiltz wrote, recorded, played, and produced both releases entirely himself. On Monday night, Down Comes The Rain track "The Deep End" was featured on The CW's hit show Gossip Girl. Hurricane Bells' debut Daytrotter session is now online as well.

Schiltz is currently finishing mixing and mastering Hurricane Bells' sophomore full-length album, which will be released this summer.

Company of Thieves Announce New Album, On Tour w/ The Whigs

The Chicago-based band Company of Thieves has announced the release of their new album, Running From A Gamble, due out via Wind-up Records on May 17th. To celebrate, the band is offering up a free MP3 from the album, in the form of the amazing track “Modern Waste.”

Running From A Gamble is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, Ordinary Riches. Produced by Rob Schnapf, the 13-track album was written primarily by lead singer Genevieve Schatz and guitar player Marc Walloch.  Of the album, Genevieve says, “The album is a coming of age adventure about the mysterious, passionate and painful transition from dependence and enchantment to autonomy and awareness.”  The first single off Running From A Gamble will be “Death of Communication,” which hits radio this month.

Ordinary Riches was released in 2009 and landed at #5 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.  The band landed a spot on Last Call with Carson Daly where they performed their hit single “Oscar Wilde.”  The band has built a massive fanbase from non-stop touring, performing headlining dates and also opening for bands such as OK Go and The Hold Steady, followed by duets with Daryl Hall on his hit show, “Live From Daryl’s House.”

Reviews of the album and live performances were nothing but positive.  Entertainment Weekly raved, “Thanks to Genevieve Schatz’s consistently gutsy soul-chick vocals and her bandmates’ energetic arrangement…their technique can’t be denied.” Yahoo! exclaimed, “Hands down, one of the best debut albums of 2007.” The band is in the midst of a national tour with The Whigs.
