All-Stars Unite on Jerry Jams for Rex

August 9, 2010 marks the 15-year anniversary of legendary musician and Grateful Dead co-founder Jerry Garcia’s death. As a way to honor his musical and community legacy, the gifted musicians on this compilation have generously contributed stirring live performances of Jerry Garcia songs to benefit the Rex Foundation. Available August 10 in a variety of formats (see below), Jerry Jams for Rex was brought to life by Brad Serling of nugs.net and includes four exclusive previously unreleased live Garcia songs from Phish, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, The String Cheese Incident, and Keller & The Keels. Other artists featured on the album include The Black Crowes, Yonder Mountain String Band and more. All proceeds are a contribution to the Rex Foundation.

Furthering what Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead started 26 years ago, the Rex Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization, endeavors to fund grassroots programs that are often under the radar of larger funding entities, yet work in bold, innovative ways to carry out essential work toward a healthy environment, promotion of the arts, protection of indigenous cultures, assisting others less fortunate, building strong communities, and educating children and adults. The Rex Foundation has distributed $8.6 million in grants to over 1,000 programs across the U.S. and internationally, while also carrying out fundraising initiatives that foster creativity and positive community connections. Visit www.rexfoundation.org for a complete list of grantees and information about current initiatives.

Jerry Jams for Rex is possible because of the honorable contributions of music, resources and know-how of the participating artists and people involved in the initiative. The Rex Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the generosity of spirit and action of all the people involved in creating Jerry Jams for Rex, as well as to all the people who purchase the compilation. Together, we honor Jerry Garcia and demonstrate the positive power of music and community spirit.

Mimi Fishman Foundation News (PHISH, PHISH, PHISH)

The WaterWheel Foundation and the Mimi Fishman Foundation have teamed together for a “reprise” of their recently completed on-line charity auction. While the previous auction featured a package representing each tour stop on the 1st leg of the 2010 Phish Summer tour, the new auction covers the tours 2nd half. Every tour stop multiple nights including fan favorites such as Alpine Valley, Deer Creek, and Jones Beach, as well as a special 3 night run at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. A very special run in Telluride places an exclamation point on the tour.

All proceeds raised will mutually benefit the Foundations, both of which have strong ties to the band Phish. The WaterWheel Foundation was created by Phish in 1997 to oversee the band’s various charitable activities. The Mimi Fishman Foundation was established in1999 by Miriam "Mimi" Fishman (the late mother of Phish drummer Jon Fishman) and David Shulman, as a vehicle to raise funds for various charities important to Mimi.

The on-line auction is currently live with the bidding coming to close on Monday, July 19.

In addition to a pair of reserved tickets per show, the auction packages include “bonus” items including posters by famed poster artist Jim Pollock and signed by the band, a rare David Welker print, etc. .

To view and/or bid on the auction, as well as read about the charities the auction supports, please visit the Mimi Fishman Foundation Auction Page.

The Mimi Fishman Foundation was established in1999 by Miriam "Mimi" Fishman (the late mother of Phish drummer Jon Fishman) and David Shulman, as a vehicle to raise funds for various charities important to Mimi.

Mimi Fishman Foundation Auction-LIVE!

The first Mimi Fishman Foundation on-line charity auction of the new decade has just launched. The auction features over 30 limited edition posters from Phish’s 2009 tour, including the end of year Miami run and Festival 8. All the posters are signed by each of the members of Phish and in most cases the poster artist as well; Phish famed artist Jim Pollock included. Making the posters extremely rare is the fact the band signed only 5 posters from each show.

The beneficiaries of the auction proceeds include the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments, a wonderful organization that extends services to visually impaired children ages birth to three as well as their families - as well as the SPCA of Syracuse, an organization which was very close to Mimi’s heart and where she got her cat Valentine.

Phish | New Years!

The Grateful Web has been working our butts off to get videos up from the big four night Phish run down in Miami.  Many of the videos up are up now... and more will be coming soon. We also have a lot of photos from New Years Eve as well as the other shows.  Thanks to all the great phans and of course Phish for making our time here (and everyone's) a memorable week in downtown Miami.  Phish was obviously enjoying themselves and really put together a nice run of shows.   Some highlights include a terrific 2nd set on Tuesday night and all kinds of surprises on December 30th, including a bunch of tunes not played in some time.  The anticipation for New Years was high and Phish did not disappoint.  Their 3 set + kept everyone moving till nearly 1:30 AM.  New Years Eve was also the first 'Blue Moon' since December 31st, 1990.  Phish of course did not miss a beat and played the tune "Blue Moon" while giving props to their crew.    Check out our videos and photos from last week. We hope you enjoy them and we're looking forward to what 2010 brings.  Happy New Year everyone!

BoomBox Post-Phish and New Year’s Eve

Its no surprise BoomBox is taking the country by storm with their unique brand of house infused rock n’ roll. The duo brilliantly blends the sophistication of live guitar and poetry while soulfully delivering lyrics and boogie-ready samples for a one-of-a-kind live performance. Their dedication to provide an experimental dance party within their live show setting is second to none. With two New Year’s celebrations scheduled nearly 1,000 miles apart, this year is no exception.

BoomBox will be performing the post-Phish celebration on Dec. 29th in Miami before heading up to their home stomping grounds of Muscle Shoals, Alabama on New Year’s Eve --- their first performance in the area in over a year.

Comprised of multi-talented producer/musicians Zion “Rock” Godchaux and Russ Randolph, the BoomBox project manifested in 2004 during a six-month recording session. With an instant connection to a similar style of music it didn’t take long for the pair to hit the road with a combined vision that makes up their signature sound today. Together this collective skillfully weaves over four decades of music into one spontaneous live track, embracing everything from Motown, to 70’s era funk, to the roots of gritty rock n’ roll creating a truly unique dance ready sound.

Since their first national tour the duo has sold thousands of copies of their independent release, Visions of Backbeat, and has performed dozens of sold-out venues around the country. BoomBox’s new album, downriverelectric, will be released January 2010.

The perfect choice for a post-Phish celebration, BoomBox will take the dance party well in to the wee hours of the morning in Miami at the White Room, less than one mile from the American Airlines Arena. The party starts at 10 PM and everyone 18 and older can join the fun.

24 hours and almost 1,000 miles later, BoomBox will return to their hometown of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, with a special New Year’s Eve celebration at the newly renovated Grand Shoals Theater. This special evening will not only mark their first area performance in over a year, it will pay tribute to all the local fans that helped launch the duo’s national career.

Tickets for both events are now on sale and more information can be found on the official BoomBox website at www.thisisboombox.com - Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets for both events in advance.
