Surprise Me Mr. Davis Announce EP & Tour Dates

The often elusive American rock and roll band SURPRISE ME MR. DAVIS, comprised by members Nathan Moore, Brad and Andrew Barr, Marc Friedman and Marco Benevento, have announced an April 13 release for their long-awaited EP, THAT MAN EATS MORNING FOR BREAKFAST. On the same day, the band will commence their first shows of 2010 with a five date Northeast run that begins in Boston, stops in Providence and Albany, and concludes with back to back nights in Brooklyn and New York City. Later in the month, they'll play two late night shows during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.  SMMD also plans three dates in the Northwest at the end of June before heading to California for two sets at High Sierra Music Festival.

THAT MAN EATS MORNING FOR BREAKFAST, also known to fans as the "demo sessions," took a circuitous route from seed to market. Nathan Moore explains: "I was on my way with Marc Friedman to Montreal where we were going to record in Brad and Andrew Barr's new studio. Unfortunately, I got turned away at the border. We soon found ourselves back in Burlington, Vermont drinking in a bar. Brett Hughes, a local musician there, was like 'just come into my barn studio and do it.' So Brad and Andrew came down this way and we ended up recording there all week at Brett's house. We got all these tracks done and then we went back into another studio and tried to work them up even bigger, but we started to feel that we were exceeding our initial ideas by trying to make them too big. In the end we reverted back to the original demos. They had the raw spirit and energy we were trying to capture. So now it is finally seeing the light of day."

The seven song EP will be available at all major digital retailers, including iTunes, Amazon and Emusic, while a limited edition CD release will be sold exclusively at the band's shows and through their website.

The track listing for THAT MAN EATS MORNING FOR BREAKFAST is:

1. Roses In Bottles

Martin Sexton tour to hit Bonnaroo

Martin Sexton’s spring and summer tour dates have just been announced and include several highlights: appearances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Bonnaroo, plus a run of dates supporting Dave Matthews Band.

The onset of March signals the final stretch of the tour with a westward run stopping over in Mobile, AL, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas and Austin.

For the duration of this tour our friend Jeff Mattson will join DSO on lead guitar and vocals. Having honed his chops with years on the road with The Zen Tricksters, Phil Lesh & Friends, and the Donna Jean Godchaux Band, we are thrilled with the talent and spirit that Jeff brings to the table, and to the band. My Morning Jacket Hit The Road With The Preservation Hall Jazz Band

It’s been almost a full year, but the wait is finally over.  My Morning Jacket are ready to bring their electrifying live show back on the road.  The guys will make their way around the Southeastern United States this Spring, including a performance at this year’s Jazzfest in New Orleans.  MMJ are also excited to both try something new with their choice for an opening act, and bring some of the spirit of NOLA along with them.  The band is honored that the historic Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be supporting them on the run.

The connection with the PHJB originated in the Spring of 2009 when MMJ frontman Jim James was invited to sing with them at their home turf, New Orleans’ legendary Preservation HallJames recorded two songs with the band: “St. James Infirmary” and “Louisiana Fairytale.”  The tracks will appear on the bands forthcoming album,  PRESERVATION: An Album To Benefit Preservation Hall & The Preservation Hall Music Outreach Program, out February 16th.

“When I got the invitation to go to the legendary Preservation Hall – where SO much of the music we now know and love on this earth found its early roots – I did not waste a minute,”  James reminisces.  “Getting to sing while the guys played with such glorious bursts of sound – all live in that holy room with the ghosts and garbage trucks crankin’ along – was an experience I’ll never forget.”

The PHJB’s leader Ben Jaffe shares his memory of playing with James: “I couldn’t have imagined Jim fitting in any better with the guys at Preservation Hall.  Creating music is not a science.  There is no tried and true formula.  There is an unspoken bond amongst musicians.  One that exists in the notes we choose.  Jim’s like our long lost cousin coming home for the first time.”

MMJ Tour Dates With The Preservation Hall Jazz Band:

04/20:  Birmingham, AL @ Alabama Theater

04/21:  Nashville, TN @ Municipal Auditorium

New Orleans' Funkiest Bonerama Announce New EP & Fall Tour

With the release of a new five-track EP, Hard Times, the introduction of the fan-funded Boner Donor program, and a trio of multi-gig residencies on the horizon, New Orleans' inimitable Bonerama has never been busier. The trombone-centric funk-rock troupe is all about checking off milestones right now, conjuring up new ways to spread their boner-ific mojo and enhance the Bonerama experience for their loyal fan base.

Hard Times, available beginning September 29, includes the first-ever studio recordings by Bonerama, once described by Rolling Stone's David Fricke as "the ultimate in brass balls." Those who've caught them in concert during their decade-plus existence treasure the group's live recordings, and now Hard Times recasts Bonerama music in a whole other context. The four studio tracks on the EP include the title track, "Hard Times," the instrumental "Folly" and "Lost My House," co-written by Craig Klein and Dave Malone of New Orleans' legendary Radiators. The last studio recording is a ferocious cover of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" (who in the Big Easy can't relate to that?), while the sole live track is a raging rave-up of the Bobby "Blue" Bland soul classic "Turn On Your Love Light," captured at last year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

The release of Hard Times will be supported by a month of Northeast residencies and tour dates running from Oct. 1-30. The residencies include three consecutive Wednesday nights at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA, four Thursdays at Club Metronome in Burlington, VT, and four Fridays at Sullivan Hall in NYC. The whirlwind tour will also make stops in Pittsburgh, PA; Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Wilmington, DE; Londonderry, NH; Rockland, ME; Manchester, CT; Northampton, MA and Lancaster, PA with more cities to be announced. See below for the current list of fall tour dates.

The most intriguing new wrinkle, though, is the Boner Donor program, designed to provide the ultimate Bonerama fan experience while simultaneously affording the band nothing less urgent than the very opportunity to continue to record and tour. Through the Boner Donor program, Bonerama is offering new, out-of-the-box ways for fans to jump directly into the energy stream and spirit of Bonerama. As the band explains on its web site (http://BoneramaMusic.com), "Your investment as a Boner Donor translates to a direct lifeline that will keep our music pumping. It's the most pure and direct way to support the art that we all need in our lives." For donations set at various pricing levels, fans can reward themselves with anything from hard drives that can be loaded up with live content at Bonerama shows, to serving as roadie for a day or traveling with the band throughout the entire year of 2010! Click here for the full details on the Boner Donor program http://BoneramaMusic.com/Boner-Donor.

Those who've followed the path of these forward thinkers-after all, who'd ever heard of a funk-infected rock band fronted by trombones before this one?-probably won't be surprised at the ingenuity behind the Boner Donor program. This, after all, is a band that has always remained close to the people who've supported them throughout the years. Now, as the music industry continues its slippery slide into unknown abysses, leave it to the ingenious Bonerama to come up with a patron-of-the-arts concept that redefines the musician-fan relationship by offering the most dedicated supporters the time of their lives.

No one who's ever understood what it's like to be loyal to a favorite musical artist can possibly have a bone to pick with that!

Mountainside Mardi Gras Brings the Spirit of New Orleans To Colorado

From just below sea level to a mile high come the sights and sounds of Mardi Gras, the bead-tossing, costumes, big brass, jazz and funk, all the way from New Orleans to the mountainside of Colorado on Saturday Aug. 8. With a full day of festivities straight from the heart and soul of one of the world’s largest celebrations, Mountainside Mardi Gras is Bourbon Street at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, packed full of New Orleans-based acts like headliner and Grammy Award-winning Dr. John, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, just to name a few.

red-rocksWith Colorado’s favorite venue full of costume-wearing fans, dressed down in the traditional mask, feathers, green and purple, additional artists like George Porter, Jr., Papa Grows Funk, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes will be right at home. The epitome of the word festival, Mountainside Mardi Gras is authentic from start to finish, including mini-parades led by the Krewe of OAK and The New Era Brass Band, in which beads and medallions will be tossed as such in New Orleans. DJ Kinetik will be at the top of Red Rocks spinning sets.

“We are truly focused on bringing the sights, sounds, flavor and flair of the New Orleans Mardi Gras to the amphitheatre,” said Trevor Jones, President of For/Sure Productions.

Jones and his partners are Denver-natives, but the idea for the landmark festival came by way of Jones’ experiences as a student at Tulane University, bringing instant credibility to a vision that has traveled 1,300 miles to honor the good fans of the Rocky Mountain Region. At just 23-years-old, Jones wants to bring his passion for New Orleans and its music to his hometown. To give back to the city that taught him of the bayou sound, Jones is donating a portion of the proceeds to the New Orleans-based Tipitina’s Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to revitalizing the local music community and supporting public school music programs in Louisiana.

Gates to Red Rocks open at noon and the music starts at 1 p.m., but Mardi Gras will undoubtedly begin well before gates open the morning of the festival with fans dressed in their best costumes, which is highly encouraged by the promoters. Tickets are on sale now through TicketsWest and are going fast! Expect special announcements soon concerning the festival, a day that invites all to partake in a collage of culture stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Colorado Front Range.

For more information about the festival visit, www.mountainsidemardigras.com. Tickets can be purchased at all King Soopers locations, by phone at 866-464-2626 or online at www.ticketswest.com.
