Phish Super Ball IX Tickets Up for Auction!

The WaterWheel Foundation and the Mimi Fishman Foundation have teamed together for the 2nd time in two months with an on-line charity auction featuring ticket packages. While the past auction was for the first portion of the Phish 2011 Summer tour, the new auction features tickets packages for the second portion of the Phish 2011 Summer tour, including Phish’s own festival, Super Ball IX.

Super Ball IX will take place before the second leg of the tour begins on July 4 weekend in Watkins Glenn, NY.  Phish then kicks off the 2011 Summer Tour’s second leg August 5th with a return visit back to the amazing Gorge Amphitheatre.  The tour continues with shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Lake Tahoe, Chicago, and Denver.

All proceeds raised will benefit Phish’s WaterWheel Foundation.  The WaterWheel Foundation was created by Phish in 1997 to oversee the band’s various charitable activities.  The Mimi Fishman Foundation was established in 1999 by Miriam "Mimi" Fishman (the late mother of Phish drummer Jon Fishman) and David Shulman – and was created as a vehicle to raise funds for various charities important to Mimi.

The on-line auction is currently live with the bidding coming to close on Wednesday, June 22.

To view and/or bid on the auction, as well as read about the charities the auction supports, please visit the Mimi Fishman Foundation Auction Page.

rexABOUT THE BLACK TIE DYE BALL

The Rex Foundation presented the first Black Tie-Dye Ball in Chicago in March 2004 with Dark Star Orchestra. Since then, there have been Black Tie-Dye Balls in New York City, Washington, D.C., Denver, Colorado, Los Angeles and San Francisco. These festive occasions provide the opportunity to collaborate with gifted performers that care about the Rex Foundation. On September 25th, as at each Ball, enjoy a unique musical experience, while also celebrating the Portland area’s talent, enterprise and community spirit. Proceeds help support local area non-profit programs.

The September 25th Black Tie-Dye Ball also helps celebrate the 3rd month-long DSO Rex Caravan Tour, where every show along the way includes $1 per ticket as a contribution to the Rex Foundation. We thank Dark Star Orchestra for their steadfast and generous support. Together, with all DSO fans, we demonstrate the power of the musical community to provide essential seed grants to smaller non-profits doing great work in many different ways.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you on September 25th.

Our 2008 Annual Report is now available on-line.  We hope you enjoy reading through all that was accomplished in 2008 because of your support.  With care about the environment as well as costs, we'll soon be mailing the Report, though only to those supporters not receiving e-mail updates.  Let us know if you want the hard copy of the Annual Report. E-mail info@rexfoundation.org or call the office at 415-561-3134.

Check out the video recently done at the Rex office, featuring me and Rex Board members Carolyn Garcia and Nick Morgan, where we describe the positive impact of Musical Caravan events like the two described here.  Our main message is that your support, whether as direct contributers, musicians putting on Caravan events, fans at festivals and other Caravan events, adds up quickly to make it possible for Rex to provide the seed grants to non-profits doing such important work, like Good Cents for Oakland pictured here.  We crossed the $1 million in grants since beginning our renewal because of you!

September 23rd REX FOUNDATION Black Tie-Dye Ball

- for the Grateful Web

Founded in 1984 by the Grateful Dead, the Rex Foundation celebrates the magical combination of music, community, creativity and joyful spirit . This is the third Black Tie-Dye Ball the Rex Foundation has presented with Dark Star Orchestra. We began this now burgeoning tradition in Chicago on March 6, 2004, then in Washington, D.C. on December 3, 2005. The next installment will be on September 23rd, 2006 in Denver at The Fillmore Auditorium.

We look forward to another great Saturday night with Dark Star Orchestra as we celebrate and support Denver's enterprise and community spirit. Proceeds from the event will support local non-profit programs.

ABOUT DARK STAR ORCHESTRA:

There are a lot of cover bands around and a lot of those are Grateful Dead cover bands. You've seen them, they're good. Most include the music of Jerry Garcia, Bobby Weir et al with other cover songs and some originals mixed in. DSO is a different breed of "Dead" band. What Dark Star Orchestra does is recreate the Grateful Dead. Not with hippie wigs and fake beards but through the live music. They play the setlist song for song in the same arrangements used by the Dead members of that period. When you're at a DSO show you may really be in the Providence Civic Center back in May of '81. Or you could even be at the 1973 Denver Coliseum show listening to Weather Report Suite. Who knows?

Actually no one does and that's part of the trip. The date of the show to be recreated is kept secret right up till the performance. Oh, there are clues (the number and placement of microphones, the keyboard setup, a midi guitar) and the secret becomes part of a game. Usually the audience in front starts throwing out guesses toward the end of the first set. The wiser observer waits for the start of the second set to venture a showdate. Sometimes a curious look comes over the faces of the audience as they realize, "Hey! I was at this show!" followed by a smile as they realize...they're at the show again! Remember: This is an exhibition, not a competition. So please....no wagering! The original showdate, for those who are DEADBASE-impaired, is announced at the end of the night usually followed by an extended encore of the band's choosing.

rexThe Rex Foundation aims to help secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, assist others less fortunate than ourselves, protect the rights of indigenous people and ensure their cultural survival, build a stronger community, and educate children and adults everywhere.

Join the Rex Foundation at the Black Tie-Dye Ball, celebrating the magical combination of music, community, creativity and joyful spirit. Proceeds support local non-profit programs.

Concert-only tickets are $26.00 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com and "Mile High" Premium Seating Tickets ($125) and "Summit" Front and Center Tickets ($300) which both include the Pre-Concert Reception with the Artists and dinner, are available on the Rex Foundation web site. For more information, go to www.rexfoundation.org or call 415-561-3135.

dsoThe Rex Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organization established in 1983 by friends and members of the Grateful Dead, has been aiding in building stronger communities, promoting individuality in the arts, helping secure a more healthy environment, and protecting the rights of indigenous people for twenty-one years. Their fundraising began in 1984 with the Grateful Dead performing "Rex" benefit concerts. Over the course of 11 years, the Grateful Dead raised $7 million which reached 900 programs. In December 2001, the Rex Foundation launched its renewal efforts by presenting fundraising events in the Bay Area and in other cities across the country, and has since granted $751,500 to 119 programs in the United States and internationally.
