KELLER WILLIAMS ANNOUNCES WINTER TOUR DATES

photos by Sam Holloway- for the Grateful Web

Keller Williams hits the road this winter to tour southern U.S. states.  The one-man-band has built a career on his uncanny ability to captivate a packed house—all by himself. He's been called a "solo cult-hero" and "music's mad-scientist."

For over 100 shows a year, Williams has proven himself to be a master of improvisational performance art. In his one-man show, he pads barefoot from guitar to bass to percussion stations, using looping effects—and enough instruments to stock a strip-mall music store—to layer sound atop sound until the stage swirls with a full-blown composition.

Keller Williams' current list of confirmed tour dates is as follows:

While Keller has made liberal use of technology throughout his solo career, he also knows that musicianship is ultimately a human undertaking. With a seemingly unquenchable thirst for all genres of music - bluegrass, jazz, and—who'd-a-thunk-it—hard rock – occasionally Williams puts unyielding faith in a backing band, as he did for his September 2008 release LIVE.  On LIVE, Keller taps into the world-class talent of Keith Moseley (bass – The String Cheese Incident), Gibb Droll (guitar – Marc Broussard, Brandi Carlile), and Jeff Sipe (drums – Aquarium Rescue Unit, Leftover Salmon). The musical horsepower of four friends playing together on stage proves stronger than even Keller had dreamed. Recorded at select live shows during a winter 2008 tour, and featuring seventeen tracks that span Keller's career, Live is a testament to how a band, with the right chemistry and chops, can take a song to places even the writer couldn't have imagined.

Keller Williams on Tour this Fall

Keller Williams has built a career on his uncanny ability to captivate a packed house-all by himself.  So why now, after fifteen-years as a solo artist, is he releasing a live album-simply titled, Live-with three other names on the cover? It turns out that since he first picked up a guitar, this troubadour has wanted to front a band.

On Live (September 16, 2008 / SCI Fidelity Records), Keller taps into the world-class talent of Keith Moseley (bass - The String Cheese Incident), Gibb Droll (guitar - Marc Broussard, Brandi Carlile), and Jeff Sipe (drums - Aquarium Rescue Unit, Leftover Salmon).

"What a treat after so many years of being in control," Williams says. "The band has a knack for hanging a sharp left that I don't see coming." As the principal singer/songwriter, Keller may be driving this musical train, but he doesn't always know where it's headed. Williams puts unyielding faith in Moseley, Droll, and Sipe's ability to sustain the conversation. And, as with every live recording worth a damn, the audience is an integral part. On Live the crowd sizzles with energy; they know they're witnessing something special.

Catch Keller Williams featuring Keith Moseley, Gibb Droll, & Jeff Sipe on tour this fall, making stops on the West Coast for the first time ever.

Keller Williams & The WMD'S to Perform at The Fillmore

photos by Tim Hurley- for the Grateful Web

Keller Williams has been called guitar's mad-scientist, a one-man band for the new millennium, and dozens of other clever sobriquets dreamed up by fans and music journalists trying to get a handle on his uplifting and ever-shifting style of music. Though Keller's music has evolved since he first started playing music over twenty years ago, some things have remained constant: Keller is a prolific artist, an exceptional guitarist, and an accomplished songwriter.  Now, Keller's twelfth album release looks back at a ground-breaking and already remarkable career.  Aptly titled 12, the album features one standout song from each of his previous eleven releases.  Keller himself dubs this his album of "hitless greatest hits." Added to the mix is one new, previously un-recorded song. While the Keller Williams adventure has only just begun, 12 is a fantastic celebration of a musical milestone.  Look for 12 in stores on December 18, 2007 on SCI Fidelity Records.

In early 2008 Keller Williams and The WMD'S will hit the road for a short run of dates. The WMD'S debuted at select festival performances this past summer, including an epic and electrifying Bonnaroo show.  Since then, the band has brought the show to theatres in select markets.  The WMD'S features Williams on guitar/vocals, Keith Moseley on bass (The String Cheese Incident),  Gibb Droll on guitar (Marc Broussard), and Jeff Sipe on drums (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Trey Anastasio, Susan Tedeschi, Phil Lesh).

Keller Williams has been refining his unique kind of performance art for almost 15 years, logging over 100 gigs annually, and he's a productive recording artist as well.  His calling card?  - a creative combination of talent and technology.  Known, of course, for his astonishing one-man show, Keller Williams surrounds himself with instruments and pedals and slides from one to the next. While his songs are rooted in Williams' warm voice and spirited acoustic guitar, Keller gives them depth and breadth via looping and delay. Keller essentially accompanies himself, looping several instruments, and filling up an entire room with lush layers of sound … just one man and a humongous imagination.

Ratdog & Keller Williams Announce Summer Tour

Bobby @ The Fillmore in Denver- for the Grateful Web

Bob Weir and RatDog and Keller Williams will cross the country this summer, sharing a stage both separately and together, making music and doing what they do best.  The tour will begin in Atlanta on July 7th and end in Los Angeles on July 28th.

Bob Weir is a founding member of the legendary Grateful Dead.  He founded RatDog as a duo in 1995, and over the succeeding years he has enlisted Jay Lane (drums), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), Mark Karan (lead guitar), Kenny Brooks (saxophone), and Robin Sylvester (bass).  RatDog plays not only Bob's various solo material but the complete Grateful Dead repertoire, and has evolved from an elegant duo to a snarling beast of a rock band that contains a jazz trio at its heart.

Keller Williams has been called guitar's mad-scientist and a one-man-band for the new millennium. Williams is considered by some, but not by himself, to be a master of the acoustic guitar, known for his ability to solo over layers of spontaneously created loops. He is a generous performer who plays down-to-earth acoustic music that defies any effort to find a convenient pigeonhole.  If pressed for a definition, Williams, as adept with language as he is with a guitar pick, calls it solo, acoustic jazzfunk reggae technograss – or simply - solo acoustic dance music.

Sometimes musicians tour together purely because of business.  These guys actually like each other, as evidenced by the tune "Cadillac" on Keller's recently released new album on SciFidelity, Dream, a duet between Keller and Bob.  Recorded at Weir's home studio, it also features an appearance from Weir family retriever Jackson (see the tour advertising design and notice who's driving the Cadillac!).  Or, as the inimitable Weir said of him, "Keller Williams is more fun than a frog in a glass of milk."  Keller seems to like the idea, too: "I love this tour because I get to get in for free."

That positive vibe will be felt across the country this summer.

Tour Dates:

July 07  Chastain Park Amphitheatre, Atlanta GA
July 09  Summerstage, Central Park, New York City NY
July 10  Bank of America Pavilion, Boston MA

Keller Williams New Album 'Dream,' Coming Soon

Keller Williams- for the Grateful Web

When singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Keller Williams scratched out a long and ambitious wish list of artists he'd like to collaborate with in the studio, he told himself "It can't hurt to dream." Today, with the release of his ninth studio album, Keller's dream comes true. For the release the usually one-man-band is backed by a dream team of musicians including Béla Fleck, Bobby Read, Bob Weir, Charlie Hunter, Derrek Phillips, Fareed Haque, Fleming McWilliams, Jeff Sipe, John Molo, John Scofield, Martin Sexton, Michael Franti, Modereko, Samir Chatterjee, Sanjay Mishra, Steve Kimock, The String Cheese Incident, and Victor Wooten. dream features 16 tracks of unblemished material: a cataract of electrifying musical alliances, and endless entertainment thanks to Keller's rapturous innovations and his earthy, barefoot-in-the-park presentation. Look for dream to be released February 6. 2007 on SCI Fidelity Records.

Keller Williams is a one-man band for the digital age. Using innovative looping technology and innate musical genius, Keller's live solo performances pack more music on one stage than a full fledge rock ensemble might. His inspired live shows sell out from coast to coast.
