Ladysmith Black Mambazo Bring Vocal Serenity, Song & Humor on Tour

Ladysmith Black Mambazo kick off their North American tour on January 18 in Oakland, CA, blending their iconic, moving harmonies with high-energy toe-touches and audience sing-alongs.  The tour will make stops in over 40 major markets across the US and Canada (including Hawaii) in just two months.

From the stage, Mambazo's nine-man a cappella team will transport concert-goers to the open fields and idyllic world of their youth in South Africa's Zulu country, singing the traditional South African folk tunes from their forthcoming album 'Songs From A Zulu Farm' (out February 1 from Listen 2 Entertainment Group/ Razor & Tie Entertainment) as well as selections from their nearly 50 year career.

These songs speak to the universal joys of childhood. "Whether you are in Ladysmith, Virginia, or Ladysmith, South Africa," says Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder and frontman Joseph Shabalala, "children are hearing songs they will carry with them for the rest of their lives and share with their own children. We hope that these songs sung to South African children can be enjoyed by families in many other places in the world."

Judy Collins to Stephen Stills: I Could Have Loved You Better

On 'Paradise,' out now from Wildflower Records, Judy Collins pairs up with former lover Stephen Stills on the Tom Paxton song "Last Thing on My Mind." The result is a fresh and sweetly melodic reminiscence of a couple’s breakup, beautifully weaving the duo's complementary voices together with softly jangling guitars. The poignant sound of the two singing “I could’ve loved you better… didn’t mean to be unkind/ Don’t you know that was the last thing on my mind” makes for a wonderfully lilting and bittersweet tune.

Listen to Judy Collins and Stephen Stills sing "Last Thing on My Mind" from 'Paradise' here.

EOTO - Southeast Winter Tour & New Years Eve!

EOTO will cap off 2010 in the southeast after logging over 170 national live performances this year. The dynamic duo will conclude their 30+ day winter tour with stops in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida before landing in Colorado for their New Year's Performance at City Hall in Denver --- an event that also features some of the nation's top DJ's including Dieselboy, Liquidstranger, Heyoka, NastyNasty, Nit Grit, Freddy Todd, Rumblejunkie, Jantsen, S.P.E.C.T.R.E., and Ishe among others.

EOTO takes the free-wheeling party vibe of a DJ set to the next level by using organic instruments, innovative performance technology, and uncharted musical exploration, forging a new path in the way electronic music is produced and performed. Live drums, guitars, keys, and vocals are mixed, remixed, and sampled on the fly using cutting-edge programs. This is all done without a script, and without a net.

The project consistently brings a new level of improvisational skills to the table with a style and genre of music that is completely their own. Some may call it Dubstep or others may find their unique sound rooted in House/Breakbeat or even drum & bass --- but one thing is for sure, they experts at detonating the party thermometer.

The group features long time friends Michael Travis and Jason Hann; a duo that is known for holding down the rhythm section for a variety of internationally renowned touring bands including Youssou N'Dour, Isaac Hayes, Dr. Dre, Loreena McKinnett, SCI, and a slew of other established artists.

The soundwave of EOTO is building to epic proportions with an endless barrage of live dates around the country bringing a dance heavy party that is second to none. The project will finish off their 2010 tour with a few final dates in the southeast before their favorite show of the year, New Years - which is set to take place on their home-stomping grounds and also featuring: Dieselboy, Liquidstranger, Heyoka, NastyNasty, Nit Grit, Freddy Todd, Rumblejunkie, Jantsen, S.P.E.C.T.R.E., and Ishe to name a few.

Upcoming Deerhoof Tour Dates + New CD

Remember what it was like to turn 16? No one could tell you what to do. You were a force to be reckoned with -- filled with the undeniable feeling that you could take on anything and win.

Deerhoof has now reached that fateful age and by rites it’s their turn to go out and challenge the world. And so, right before they began recording, Greg Saunier, Ed Rodriguez, John Dieterich, and Satomi Matsuzaki just up and split from San Francisco (the only home they’ve ever known as a band) and left behind all notions of what a “Deerhoof record sounds like.”

Self-recorded, mixed, and mastered in rehearsal spaces and band members' basements with no engineers or outside input, Deerhoof vs. Evil dresses up Deerhoof's well-known recklessness in a newfound elastic groove -- one flled with big-hit choruses and exuberantly unfamiliar colors.

The musical equivalent of hormones raging out of control, the record explodes out of the speakers with its gawky triumph and inflamed sentimentality.

This is Deerhoof's ode to their own adolescence. This is Deerhoof vs. Evil.

Badly Drawn Boy Touring North America Next Month

BADLY DRAWN BOY, aka Damon Gough, is giving away album track "This Electric" along with the remixes by Beats For Beginners and El Diablo's Social Club for the price of an email. Badly Drawn Boy is touring North America next month.
The two-week run will kick off in Boston on December 1st and wraps up with a two-night stand at Los Angeles’ Troubadour. Full tour dates are listed below. Penning the soundtrack to last year’s Caroline Aherne film The Fattest Man in Britain sparked a period of unprecedented creativity for Gough, resulting in a wealth of great new songs. Gough decided the best way to capture this surge, and give the songs the exposure they deserved was to release a trilogy of albums. The trilogy is called ‘It’s What I’m Thinking’ and ‘Part 1 – Photographing Snowflakes’ is in stores now. Watch the video for "Too Many Miracles."

Girl Talk's New Album, All Day, Out Today

Celebrating 10-plus years of sample-obsessed production and relentless touring, Gregg Gillis returns with All Day, his fifth album as Girl Talk, and his most epic, densely layered, and meticulously composed musical statement to date.  Continuing the saga from the previously acclaimed albums, Night Ripper and Feed The Animals, Gillis lays down a more diverse range of samples to unfold a larger dynamic between slower transitions and extreme cut-ups.  With the grand intent of creating the most insane and complex pop collage album ever heard, large catalogs of both blatantly appropriated melodies and blasts of unrecognizable fragments were assembled for the ultimate Girl Talk record (clocking in at 71 minutes and 373 samples).

Earlier this year, Girl Talk finally took a break from touring, festival dates, and college shows, in order to create this album that is now being released immediately after its completion.  While posting the album as a free download on the Illegal Art label's site allows All Day to reach his fan-base quickly and with minimal cost, Gillis spent more time on this album than any previous release and considers it the most fully realized and evolved manifestation of the Girl Talk aesthetic.

Download Girl Talk’s All Day here for free.

(There are no strings attached to this free download – no email address needed, no potential donation, or anything of that nature, and it will remain this way indefinitely.)

Since the release of Feed The Animals, things have flourished for Girl Talk. He's played almost 300 shows and hardly taken a full week off from hitting the road. He's playing even larger venues and making even more of a spectacle -- he's employed a small crew of toilet paper launching stage hands, who also propel confetti, balloons, and inflate oddly chosen props into the audience. For the New Year's Eve show to ring in 2010, a team was hired to build a life-size house, with attention to fine details, on the stage at Chicago's Congress Theater.  Described as the craziest house party ever, Girl Talk continues to please live audiences as the mass of sweaty bodies at his shows continually grows. Touring highlights from the last couple of years include the Vancouver Olympics, large festivals such as Coachella, Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, V-Fest, Sasquatch, Rothbury, Monolith, Planeta Terra, and trips to Australia, Japan, South America, Europe, and Mexico.

As previously announced, Girl Talk will be touring extensively in 2011 in support of this release.

Fistful of Mercy interview on CNN

Yesterday, CNN posted a video feature on Fistful of Mercy telling about how the guys met and the recording process for the new album, As I Call You Down. Today, CNN added an in-depth interview with the band to the video feature. Click here to read the interview and check out the video!

2010 is Exceptional Year for Judy Collins

Judy Collins, who USA Today says "sounds as fresh and full of wonder as ever," has had a great year that included the June release of her "life-affirming gem of a record” (The Sun-UK) 'Paradise' (Wildflower Records), which became her highest-charting album in over a decade, and a North American tour that continues into December. She'll appear on NPR's news quiz show "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" December 4th and just taped a "Tiny Desk Concert" at NPR's Washington, DC headquarters last week.

In 2010, Judy Collins, called "one of the greatest interpreters of modern times" by Mojo, also:

*Contributed her version of "Over the Rainbow" from 'Paradise' to an oversized children's picture book and 3-song CD set about the #1 movie song of all time (Imagine Publishing), which reached the New York Times bestseller list.

*Performed a sold-out show at the Metropolitan Museum's Temple of Dendur in New York

*Gave the keynote address at a Musicares "Women in Recovery" event in New York

*Performed on  NPR Mountain Stage, listen here

*Performed at AARP's 50th Anniversary convention in Orlando, FL with Crosby, Stills & Nash.

*Auctioned beloved guitars from her extensive collection at Christie's in New York

*Inducted Leonard Cohen into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame

*Presented Mary Chapin Carpenter with the “Spirit of Americana” Free Speech in Music Award from the Newseum’s First Amendment Center and the Americana Music Association.

*Played the Glastonbury Festival for the first time.

With a career spanning 50 years, recording more than 40 albums, including gold and platinum-selling albums, numerous Top 10 hits, plus Grammy nominations, Judy Collins continues to claim her legendary status. ‘Paradise’ features Collins’ take on songs from the likes of Jimmy Webb, Tom Paxton, Joan Baez, Tim Buckley, and Stan Jones, as well as duets with Joan Baez and Stephen Stills.
