Omara Portuondo - of Buena Vista Social Club- 80th Birthday Celebration @ Boulder Theater

Omara Portuondo, the world-renowned vocalist who began her career in the music scene of her native Cuba in the 1940s, will celebrate her 80th Birthday with performances in the U.S. this fall. Portuondo on the heels of a GRAMMY win for her 2008 release Gracias will entertain audiences with her rich, soulful brand of jazz and balladry. Portuondo, is an original member of the internationally critically acclaimed Buena Vista Social Club a group whose roots date back to the Cuban club scene of the 1940s before it took the world by storm in the late 90s. She was the first Cuban artist in six years to be granted a visa to perform in the United States and the first Cuban citizen to appear on television as a presenter at The Latin Grammy Awards.

Jose Marte, our great Cuban poet, once said that music is the soul of the people, says Omara. "Music is at the heart of every culture, something to be shared among all people, regardless of borders and politics. It has always been a universal language for people who might not otherwise understand each other. Perhaps, through these performances, I could be a goodwill ambassador between these two countries."

Portuondo's recent appearances in the U.S. in the fall of 2009 and spring of 2010 had critics saying the following:

The Cuban singer Omara Portuondo, is still impulsive onstage. ... She sang high and low, whispering and declaiming, hinting at tears and pride... -New York Times March 2010

"Her performance here of two classic boleros was enough to transport us to another time and place" - Tiny Desk Concert March 2010

Eoin Harrington Adds Brandi Carlile Dates

San Francisco-based singer, songwriter and musician Eoin Harrington, known for his passionate vocal style, energetic stage presence and infectiously catchy songs, is kicking 2010 into high gear with a flurry of activity that will culminate with a string of concerts in March opening for Brandi Carlile.  Harrington has been captivating music fans in San Francisco since relocating from his native Dublin several years ago and has sold out every one of his local appearances since the release of his debut recording, STORY, last year.

A classically-trained pianist, Harrington possesses a clear vibrant tenor, and his vocals have been described as reminiscent of Maroon 5's Adam Levine, James Blunt and "a grittier Elton John."  His signature "blue-eyed soul" is evident on STORY, for which he composed all of the songs.   "...his 'Story' CD illustrates the charm and craft that have put Harrington-whose first name is pronounced Owen-at the top of the many observers' lists of the Bay Area artists," wrote Shay Quillen in the San Jose Mercury News, while Music Connection added "his debut shines with stellar song craft and a distinctive, audience-pleasing artistry."

Eoin is happy to let others describe his music.  "I have a really hard time with that," he says, "because it's a combination of all that I've been exposed to so far in my life, from Irish traditional to classical to heavy rock to R&B."

Harrington is enjoying full rotation air play on major stations back in his home country of Ireland, and, in addition to the album, his fans will be treated to several new media products in the coming months. iEoin, a downloadable iPhone application, is available free at the iStore. The iEoin will allow fans to keep up to date on live shows, blog entries, videos and other news on the artist. His website has been redesigned and launched at www.eoinharrington.com where, in addition to streaming his latest music, his electronic press kit is available for viewing.

A video for the song "Play Your Piano" from STORY was recently completed and will initially be available for viewing on the iPhone application after which It will be posted on his website. Eoin has just scored the entire soundtrack for the new motion picture, Love On the Line, scheduled for release at the end of the year. He also makes his acting debut in two cameo appearances in the film.

Among Harrington's most recent Bay area performances was an appearance at the TEDxSV (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Conference held in the Silicon Valley at which he charmed the organizers by writing a song especially for the auspicious event.

Other shows include a guest appearance at the 100th Anniversary of KCBS-TV and an annual KFOG Radio concert at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland with Matt Kearney and Brandi Carlile.

Harrington, who has previously appeared with artists such as Alanis Morrisette, Sara Bareilles, Bret Dennen, Serena Ryder, Switchfoot, Pat Monahan (Train) and Back Door Slam, is also set to open for Brandi Carlile in concert.

The tour will find them dropping by the U.S. for multiple dates in New York, California, and Florida, including appearances on Morning Becomes Electric and at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. The highly anticipated Black Light sees the duo stepping in bold new directions and featuring an impressive list of guest artists, including silky smooth guest vocals from Roxy Music’s Bryan Ferry on the single “Shameless,” vocal turns from Kate Bush-evoking chanteuse SaintSaviour, and appearances on several tracks from Nick Littlemore of the Aussie electronic sensation Empire of the Sun.

Prolific remixer Classixx has produced a light and playful remix of Black Light highlight "Paper Romance," replacing the hard four-to-the-floor of the original track with bubbling synths, softly skittering drums, and delicate, swooning guitars that bring out the passionate vocal takes from SaintSavior and Fenech-Soler.  Download the remix here, and feel free to post and share!  In addition to Classixx, several tracks from the album have already been remixed by other such luminaries as Mock & Toof, Bloody Beetroots, and more, all currently available on iTunes. Leftover Salmon Ends Hiatus, Confirms Festival Appearances

Drew Emmitt @ The Fox in Boulder- for the Grateful Web

Colorado-based Leftover Salmon announces it will return to the stage later this year. Confirmed by a statement today from band manager John Joy the return will mark the end to the band's 27-month hiatus.

Following the band's last live performance on New Year's Eve 2004 in Boulder, audiences nationwide will once again hear the trademark polyethnic-cajun-slamgrass sound that propelled the group from its humble Rocky Mountain beginnings to international critical acclaim.

The returning lineup for Leftover Salmon features Vince Herman (acoustic guitar, vocals), Drew Emmitt (mandolin, guitar, vocals), Jeff Sipe (drums), Greg Garrison (bass, vocals), Bill McKay (keyboards, vocals), and Noam Pikelny (banjo).

The confirmed performances have the band making festival appearances on opposite coasts including the High Sierra Music Festival in Northern California and the All Good Music Festival in West Virginia's hills.

Confirmed 2007 Performances:

High Sierra Music Festival - Quincy, CA  2 performances: Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8

All Good Music Festival - Masontown, WV Sunday, July 15

Leftover Salmon was formed by accident in 1989, when a local band, the Salmon Heads, asked members of the Left Hand String Band to fill some missing spots in its lineup.  The synergy worked and the resulting quintet went on to pioneer its own genre.

After the independent release of Bridges to Bert in 1993 and the 1995 live follow-up Ask The Fish, Leftover Salmon gained a spot on the H.O.R.D.E. festival tour and a contract with Hollywood Records. Their Hollywood debut and second studio album, Euphoria, continued to define their eclectic sound and introduced many songs that would become classics for the band.

vinceOther releases include The Nashville Sessions (1999) featuring scores of famous Nashville artists and session musicians as collaborators; Live (2002) the first recording with the new rhythm section, O Cracker, Where Art Thou? (2003) featuring Cracker members David Lowery and Johnny Hickman with LS as the backing band, and Leftover Salmon (2004) first studio record since the loss of founding member, banjoist Mark Vann.

Each of the band's releases cements its contemporary sound with the solid genre-bending fusion of newgrass, folk and blues. Through the course of the initial 15 years of Leftover Salmon has performed music with such contemporaries as Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, David Grisman, Jerry Douglas, Del McCoury, Peter Rowan, Pete Wernick, Col. Bruce Hampton, Oteil Burbridge, Bill Payne, Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Pete Sears, Todd Park Mohr, Tony Furtado, Theresa Anderson, along with members of the The String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, Yonder Mountain String Band and dozens of additional artists.

The band continues to break new ground with its highly energetic live performances and initiate new fans with each show.
