JFJO Announce West Coast & Europe Tour Dates

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey have announced Winter 2010 tour plans. The band will head out for a 12-date West Coast run in February marking the hard touring quartet's first shows since selling out The Eclipse on New Year's Eve in their hometown of Tulsa. In March, JFJO makes a return trip to Europe for ten dates spanning eight countries, including their second appearance at the prestigious Turku Jazz Festival in Finland.

JFJO will be touring behind their critically acclaimed 2009 EP release One Day In Brooklyn, however, work is already well underway on a follow up, full length album. They spent seven days in December tracking at acclaimed engineer/musician David Teegarden's Natura Digital Recording Studios just outside of Tulsa. The album, tentatively scheduled for a June release, will reflect JFJO's first year of touring and writing together since founding member and pianist Brian Haas and drummer Josh Raymer revamped the line-up last January with the addition of lap steel guitarist Chris Combs and upright bassist Matt Hayes.

Dark Star Orchestra @ Boulder Theater

DSO sing entire shows from the Grateful Dead's 30 years of extensive touring as a launching pad, Dark Star Orchestra recreates the original song for song performance set list for an entirely new generation of, as well as old school, Deadheads. Dark Star Orchestra performs Grateful Dead classics in the same way that an orchestra interprets music of classical composers. The composer spirit is derived and channeled as the players capture the excitement and innovation of the original performances and compositions. Touring nationwide for nine years to the tune of nearly 1500 shows since forming, the band's determined commitment to "raising the Dead" has drawn national media attention.

Precision is king with DSO; the band adapts their stage positioning, vocal arrangements, specific musical equipment and instruments to fit the era of the show they are performing. Following each performance the band announces the date and venue of the original performance. Dark Star Orchestra could dip into any incarnation of the dead at any of their shows, allowing fans to experienceˇ shows that happened long before they were born.

Blue Turtle Seduction Touring Petrol Free

Running on Veggie Oil- for the Grateful Web

While most of the nation is wincing at the gas pump, musical touring act Blue Turtle Seduction is turning to French fries and chicken wings; their fuel solution is waste vegetable oil. Collected from restaurants' dirty grease dumpsters, the oil is heated and filtered, then used immediately as fuel for their 40-foot tour bus. The benefits show up in the pocketbook, the air quality, and even in the smell emitting from the tailpipe.

Adam Navone, drummer for Blue Turtle Seduction, explains: "Waste vegetable oil turns a would-be waste product into a fuel alternative. It gets approximately the same mpg as regular diesel fuel, and sometimes smells like a Chinese buffet, or if you're lucky, a donut shop."

According to Shaun Dolan, manager for Blue Turtle Seduction, waste vegetable oil fuel is critical both to the environment and to the company's bottom line: "The nature of a band is to travel— touring is the major part of our business. This is a great way to reduce the carbon footprint from our bus, as well as help our business survive in a time of skyrocketing gas prices."

Vegetable oil is the main component of biodiesel, which is simply chemically modified vegetable oil. However, as Navone points out, the significant advantage to straight vegetable oil is that it does not require any refining or costly additives— aspects that often times make biodiesel as expensive as conventional gasoline, as well as create more waste products.

Blue Turtle Seduction is a musical entertainment group performing live shows nationwide. They will be performing a free concert at the Whoa Nellie Amphitheater, Lee Vining, CA, on September 4-5th 2008 to promote the use of waste vegetable oil fuel. This event will be presented by Tioga Mobil Gas Station, which regularly donates its used vegetable oil to the band. Blue Turtle Seduction is set to release a new album in Fall 2008 entitled "13 Floors": a sneak preview is available for streaming only at www.myspace.com/blueturtleseduction.
Previous recordings can be found on iTunes or on Blue Turtle Seduction's official website.

Doyle Lawson Gears Up for Busy Touring Season

Doyle Lawson- for the Grateful Web

Some men celebrate their 63rd birthday by starting a countdown to retirement, but for bluegrass legend - and road warrior - Doyle Lawson, April 20th was a milepost on the way to one of his busiest and most successful seasons yet.

Fresh off taping an episode of GAC's Edge Of Country with Kylie Harris (air dates June 23rd & June 25th) that focuses on his newest release, More Behind the Picture than the Wall (Rounder), Lawson paused to break some big news before heading back on the road.

"I'm happy to announce that the new member of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver will be Ron Spears," he said.  "Ron will be playing bass and handling lead and harmony vocals.  Ron is a longtime student and fan of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and he understands the style - when we got together, the vocal blend with the trio and quartet was extremely pleasing to my ear.  I'm looking forward to his vocal input as well as having another songwriter in the band."  Spears, who penned "Ocean Of Teardrops" on Lawson's latest release, will start his new duties with Quicksilver on a yet-to-be-determined date.

In the meantime, the veteran bandleader is gearing up for a dizzying round of coast-to-coast performances and honors including stops at California's gigantic Stage Coach country music festival (5/6); Lawson's own bluegrass festival in Denton, NC (5/10-13) and Brooklyn, NY's Southpaw for a Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concerts performance on June 1st.  Tucked into the busy itinerary is a May 5th stop at Bristol, TN's King College, where Lawson will deliver this year's commencement address and receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree.

Offsetting the rigors of road life is More Behind The Picture Than The Wall, which is bidding to take its place among Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver's most successful releases.  The disc debuted at #2 on Billboard's Bluegrass Album chart week of release (March 27), with first week scans up more than 30% from the group's previous album.  Critics are raving about its "timeless message" (Barnes & Noble) and the quintet's "expert harmonizers" (L.A. Daily News).  "Quicksilver hears as clearly as ever the sound of traditions reborn," says No Depression of More Behind The Picture Than The Wall, and when they catch Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver in concert, this summer's fans will hear it, too.
