WANEE 2012 LINE-UP ANNOUNCED!

The Allman Brothers Band headlines a great line-up of outstanding performers for what is fast becoming one of the most popular Festivals in the country, the 2012 Wanee Music Festival, Thursday April 19th through Saturday April 21st at the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL.

New Orleans' Funkiest Bonerama Announce New EP & Fall Tour

With the release of a new five-track EP, Hard Times, the introduction of the fan-funded Boner Donor program, and a trio of multi-gig residencies on the horizon, New Orleans' inimitable Bonerama has never been busier. The trombone-centric funk-rock troupe is all about checking off milestones right now, conjuring up new ways to spread their boner-ific mojo and enhance the Bonerama experience for their loyal fan base.

Hard Times, available beginning September 29, includes the first-ever studio recordings by Bonerama, once described by Rolling Stone's David Fricke as "the ultimate in brass balls." Those who've caught them in concert during their decade-plus existence treasure the group's live recordings, and now Hard Times recasts Bonerama music in a whole other context. The four studio tracks on the EP include the title track, "Hard Times," the instrumental "Folly" and "Lost My House," co-written by Craig Klein and Dave Malone of New Orleans' legendary Radiators. The last studio recording is a ferocious cover of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" (who in the Big Easy can't relate to that?), while the sole live track is a raging rave-up of the Bobby "Blue" Bland soul classic "Turn On Your Love Light," captured at last year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

The release of Hard Times will be supported by a month of Northeast residencies and tour dates running from Oct. 1-30. The residencies include three consecutive Wednesday nights at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA, four Thursdays at Club Metronome in Burlington, VT, and four Fridays at Sullivan Hall in NYC. The whirlwind tour will also make stops in Pittsburgh, PA; Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Wilmington, DE; Londonderry, NH; Rockland, ME; Manchester, CT; Northampton, MA and Lancaster, PA with more cities to be announced. See below for the current list of fall tour dates.

The most intriguing new wrinkle, though, is the Boner Donor program, designed to provide the ultimate Bonerama fan experience while simultaneously affording the band nothing less urgent than the very opportunity to continue to record and tour. Through the Boner Donor program, Bonerama is offering new, out-of-the-box ways for fans to jump directly into the energy stream and spirit of Bonerama. As the band explains on its web site (http://BoneramaMusic.com), "Your investment as a Boner Donor translates to a direct lifeline that will keep our music pumping. It's the most pure and direct way to support the art that we all need in our lives." For donations set at various pricing levels, fans can reward themselves with anything from hard drives that can be loaded up with live content at Bonerama shows, to serving as roadie for a day or traveling with the band throughout the entire year of 2010! Click here for the full details on the Boner Donor program http://BoneramaMusic.com/Boner-Donor.

Those who've followed the path of these forward thinkers-after all, who'd ever heard of a funk-infected rock band fronted by trombones before this one?-probably won't be surprised at the ingenuity behind the Boner Donor program. This, after all, is a band that has always remained close to the people who've supported them throughout the years. Now, as the music industry continues its slippery slide into unknown abysses, leave it to the ingenious Bonerama to come up with a patron-of-the-arts concept that redefines the musician-fan relationship by offering the most dedicated supporters the time of their lives.

No one who's ever understood what it's like to be loyal to a favorite musical artist can possibly have a bone to pick with that!

Bonerama & Midnite Disturbers @ Studio at Colton!

boneramaBonerama is not a traditional brass band, but they've got brass to spare-even with no trumpets or saxes in sight. The band has been repeatedly recognized by Rolling Stone, hailed as "the ultimate in brass balls" (2005) and praised for their "...crushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growls" (2007). At the same time, Bonerama takes the concept of brass band to places unknown, earning the title of "Best Rock Band" at the 2007 Big Easy Awards. When Bonerama struts onstage with its four-trombone frontline, you can guess it's not quite like any rock 'n' roll band you've seen. When they tear into some vintage New Orleans funk, there's no questioning from which city these guys hail. And when those 'bones start ripping into Hendrix and Led Zeppelin licks, all stylistic bets are off. Even in a city that doesn't play by the rules, New Orleans' Bonerama is something different.

Following Bonerama's brass-attack will be a rare performance by the Midnite Disturbers, an all-star brass band assembled by drummers Stanton Moore of Galactic and Kevin O'Day. The Midnite Disturbers is comprised of some of New Orleans' very best performers including Troy Andrews (Trombone Shorty); Stanton Moore & Ben Ellman (Galactic); Big Sam (Big Sam's Funky Nation); Mark Mullins (Bonerama); Shamarr Allen; Matt Perrine & Kevin O'Day. This sprawling ensemble boasts the most diverse and unlikely medley of talents of any brass band in town.

Don't miss the brass frenzy at The Studio at Colton Theater on Thursday, April 30th!

And remember, this year the Backbeat Jazzfest Series will be offering music lovers and the musicians they love smoke-free environments at all shows.

Bonerama carries the brass-band concept to places unknown.  Hailed by Rolling Stone's David Fricke as "The ultimate in brass balls" last Fall, the band served as the House Band for the live all-star comedy event COMIC RELIEF.  The 2006 event, which featured a long list of A-talent including hosts Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams, was recorded live from Ceasar's Palace last November. Recently, Bonerama snagged the coveted "Best Rock Band" honor from the 2007 Big Easy Awards.

Since live performance is what Bonerama is all about, it's no coincidence that their third album, Bringing It Home, is also their third consecutive live disc. It also testifies to the amount of tightening-up the band's done in recent years. Joining another stack of Bonerama originals are covers ranging from the Meters and George Porter Jr. to the Beatles (two from the White Album, no less) to Thelonious Monk. And when they take on Led Zeppelin's "The Ocean" - with trombones doing the familiar backing vocals along with the big guitar riff - you can practically hear the audience's jaws dropping.

The current list of confirmed Bonerama tour dates is as follows:

November 08 Berlin Jazz Festival Berlin Germany
November 15 The Melting Point Athens GA
November 20 Palats and Pate Lafayette LA
November 21 Pearl At Commerce Dallas TX

Bonerama features a dizzying display of trombone talent; four trombones, to be exact. Band leaders Mark Mullins and Craig Klein (of Harry Connick's band) shelf any jazz subtlety for Bonerama, opting instead for heavy funk, rock 'n' roll, and pure horn muscle.  Mullins and Klein are joined by fellow boners Steve Suter and Rick Trolsen, imaginative and dynamic sousaphone player Matt Perrine and edgy experimental guitarist Bert Cotton. The band also features a rotating cast of New Orleans' finest drummers, including Russell Batiste, Stanton Moore, Eric Bolivar, and Terence Higgins.

Bonerama Teams Up With OK Go for "You're Not Alone"

photo courtesy of Madison House- for the Grateful Web

This Mardi Gras (February 5th), Bonerama and OK Go will release You're Not Alone, a five-song digital EP.  Bonerama and OK Go spent the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina recording at Piety Street Studios deep in the city's Upper 9th Ward.  One hundred percent of the proceeds from the EP – available exclusively at iTunes – will benefit members of New Orleans' music community such as R&B legend Al Johnson, who are still struggling to rebuild their homes and their lives in the aftermath of the flood.

"New Orleans is one of the last places in America where music is truly a fundamental part of everyday life," says OK Go singer Damian Kulash. "People get together on the weekends and parade through the streets just playing songs; 12-year-old-kids learn funk on the tuba; everyone dances.  Life elsewhere in the world simply isn't as celebratory.  If we allow the culture of New Orleans to die by leaving its musicians marooned around the country, America will have lost one of its great treasures."

This weekend, OK Go and Bonerama will finish up the second of two benefit shows: a January 11 th gig at New Orleans' Tipitina's (as part of the legendary club's 30th anniversary celebration) and upcoming February 2nd show at The 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, which will be streamed and podcast by NPR. Bonerama will open the DC show, then play material from You're Not Alone with OK Go, who will close the evening with a full set.

On Monday, February 11 th, Bonerama and Kulash will perform " A Million Ways " on CBS' Late Show with David Letterman.

Engineered by Mark Nevers (Bobby Bare Sr., Calexico, Bonnie "Prince" Billy), You're Not Alone is an astonishing collaboration, with Bonerama lending its loud, trombone-and-tuba New Orleans swagger to OK Go's bombastic rock.  Together, they re-interpret three tracks from OK Go's most recent album, Oh No: " A Million Ways," "It's A Disaster" and "Oh Lately It's So Quiet."   A pair of covers – David Bowie's "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" and Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" – round out the collection. Al "Carnival Time" Johnson, who wrote "Carnival Time," the unofficial anthem of Mardi Gras, contributes haunting vocals to the latter.

Johnson's Lower 9 th Ward home was washed off its foundation by the levee failures during Hurricane Katrina and later demolished by the city without his knowledge or consent.  He has been living in Houston, TX for the past two years.  Proceeds from You're Not Alone will go towards building a new Habitat For Humanity home for him as well as to Sweet Home New Orleans, an organization dedicated to helping repatriate and support the thousands of local musicians who were scattered by Katrina.

Enthusiasm for the project has proved contagious.  iTunes has agreed to donate all proceeds from EP sales, and digital distribution powerhouse IODA is servicing and promoting it free of charge.  In addition, free freight shipping was provided by EFM Worldwide/Horizon Cargo, and Music Travel Management contributed free airfare for the two benefit shows.
