Lola Danza debuts her project "Janya" @ Kennedy Center

Lola Danza debuts her project "Janya" at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. this Friday May 13th 2011 at 6pm.

In Sanskrit Janya means to be born and in Korean Janya means around dawn.  Janya was created by four unique musicians-- all derived from Korean descent and all women. The music is a fusion of East and West—the East: Seungmin Cha- Daegeum, Eun Sun Jung- Gayageum and Woonjung Sim- Janggo, the West with Half Korean American Singer Lola Jung Danza. Something shamanic and magical exists between the four musician women and so-- Janya was born… around dawn.

They will also premier their work from their new album entitled “Janya” recorded at Bill Laswell's studio. They will have the music available exclusively at the Kennedy Center on Friday, May 13th and it will be released worldwide this summer on Evolver Records and also on a Korean label soon TBA.

You can also watch the Kennedy Center performance of Janya "live" at http://www.kennedy-center.org/explorer/live/

The NEW DEAL announces the end of a spectacular 12- year career

The NEW DEAL announces the end of a spectacular 12- year career with a strong run of shows that will wrap up in the fall.

It has been an amazing run for the band and we appreciate the loyal and dedicated tND fanbase across North America and Asia. Our individual lives have taken very different paths with family, living abroad, and other various projects. We have come to a point where the time and commitment that it takes to maintain our band at its best is no longer possible. As a group, we’ve never been known to go halfway, so we have decided to end things with a great run of summer and fall shows that we hope to be the best yet.

Over the next several months, TND will return to the East Coast. The final Summer and Fall 2011 shows will bring us to many of our favorite places in the US and Canada, and we’re looking forward to finishing things off in a big way.

We look forward to each and every one of these very special shows. Our fans have been fantastically devoted and supportive, and we hope to give them a final run of performances that will be truly memorable.

In addition to the summer shows and festivals already announced, we expect to add a few more dates to give as many fans as possible the opportunity to see us play together one last time.

Much love,
Darren, Dan and Jamie

Britain's Gwyneth Herbert in the United States

Gwyneth Herbert, whose sublime version of Neil Young’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart appeared on the soundtrack to 2009 Rom-Com smash Leap Year has been hailed as a priceless talent. A quirky, original singer-songwriter, inspired as much by Janis Ian and Joni Mitchell, as by Billie Holliday or Nina Simone. Her latest collection, All The Ghosts (on boutique British label Naim Edge) features ten terrific songs, which speak to you directly, without forethought for genre or category. In their melodic immediacy and observational characterization, you might hear the Lennon-McCartney of ‘Sgt Pepper’, or the Ray Davies of ‘Lola’, rather than any jazz stereotype.

Expect witty, captivating vignettes populated by a living, breathing cast of beaten-down dreamers, jaded city-dwellers, and women in a quandary. She appears here on piano and ukulele with support from regular guitar partner Al Cherry and double-bassist Sam Burgess.

One of the UK’s finest and most original singer-songwriters plays three shows in support of All The Ghosts, her critically acclaimed new album. Released in the US on June 8th on Naim Edge (via Allegro)

Here We Go Magic Announce US Summer Tour

Here We Go Magic is a five-piece band made up of members Luke Temple, Kristina Lieberson, Michael Bloch, Jennifer Turner, and Peter Hale. They originally came together in New York in early 2009 through a series of chance encounters, overheard conversations and supernatural occurrences.

From disparate musical backgrounds, the five found immediate common inspiration in a collection of unique 4-track recordings created by lead singer Luke Temple. These recordings were released in February, 2009 as the self-titled Here We Go Magic (Western Vinyl).

Since this initial spark the band's creative momentum has been unwavering. Together they have developed a broad array of musical material and honed an explosive live sound all their own. They spent much of 2009 on successive North American and European tours with bands such Department of Eagles, Grizzly Bear, and the Walkmen, before retreating to a house near East Branch, NY to record their second full length LP.

Pigeons, set for release on Secretly Canadian on June 8th, was produced and recorded by Here We Go Magic over four months in the late Summer and Fall of 2009.  The band plans extensive touring in conjunction with its release.
