For more than a decade, as keyboardist for Colorado's beloved String Cheese Incident, Kyle Hollingsworth has consistently proven one of the most innovative and virtuosic musicians on the American jamband scene. Now, with the Sept. 15th release of Then There's Now (SCI Fidelity Records), his first album since the band announced a hiatus in 2007, Hollingsworth extends his reach into areas that will both delight longtime admirers and lock in countless new ones. Emphasizing his considerable songwriting skills and incorporating a plethora of surprises, Then There's Now marks the true emergence of Kyle Hollingsworth as a solo artist.

For Hollingsworth, who has recently been more prolific than ever before, the title of Then There's Now offers the first clue as to where he stands today. Then There's Now undeniably draws on Hollingsworth's past affiliation with "The Cheese," using his previous work as a jumping off point yes, there are some intoxicating, if more concise, jams to be savored. But the album's "now" component-irresistible melodies, poignant lyrics and fine-tuned song construction, plus a willingness to infuse the tunes with elements of pop, jazz, electronica, hip-hop and more transports Hollingsworth into musical realms he's never before explored at length.

Elliot Murphy: Back in the USA for a West Coast Tour

Elliott Murphy- for the Grateful Web

Rock troubadour Elliott Murphy and multi-cultural singer-songwriter Jann Klose continue their U.S. tour this week, with shows in San Francisco, Felton (Santa Cruz), Tehachapi (near Bakersfield and Edwards Air Force Base), Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Diego.  The two will also be performing at the NAMM Convention.

Elliott Murphy first came to prominence 35 years ago with the release of the now-more-relevant-than-ever album, AQUASHOW.  That, along with NIGHT LIGHTS, LOST GENERATION, and JUST A STORY FROM AMERICA were played on mainstream radio throughout the United States.  These albums were also picked up internationally, especially in Japan and Europe, where Elliott has found international stardom.  19 years ago he moved to France. He last played the United States in 2000 at New York City's Bottom Line, and his last west coast dates were in 1996.

Elliott has released 30 albums, his latest is NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND, which has received 5 stars from ALLMUSIC.COM.  Some of the musicians who've collaborated with Elliott on his recordings are Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Phil Collins, and the Rolling Stones' Mick TaylorElliott was also honored with a monumental exposition, LAST OF THE ROCK STARS-RETROSPECTIVE at Paris' Town Hall, and has been cited in literature in the work, SAVAGE DETECTIVES by the late Roberto Bolano, who now has a best-seller book called, 2666.

Elliott, who is already played on Sirius-XM's the LOFT, will be the subject of a story on an upcoming Bob Edwards' show on the satellite station, and he will be releasing his 31st album this March 16, his 60th birthday.  And this spring, he'll be acting in the French movie "La Ligne Blanche" out in spring 2009.

Opening all dates will be Jann Klose, whose new album REVERIE is an independent release that has been picked up by 90 AAA radio stations in North America, a variety of folk and jazz stations, some European stations including regional BBCs and Radio Caroline, and played on a mixture of formats including talk, classic rock morning and "Acoustic Sunrise"-styled shows, and Sirius-XM's The Loft.  KMMT-Mammoth Lakes, a top 40/modern rock station, has also picked up on Jann's album.  Born in Germany, raised in Kenya and South Africa, Jann has collaborated on stage with Renaissance's Annie Haslam, songwriters Rosanne Cash, Marty Stuart, and Roger McGuinn.

The tour has received praise in every city it's played so far from Boston, MA to Larchmont, NY.  THE WASHINGTON POST'S Christopher Porter notes, "Murphy engaged his campfire crowd with direct eye contact, making the evening's intimacy even more intense. His textured voice - as with his songwriting, it's equal parts Bob Dylan, Lou Reed and Bruce Springsteen - also exhibited tonal strength and beauty."

The Schenectady Gazette's Brian McElhiney writes, "Murphy gives hungry cadre of stateside fans what they came for."  Indeed the fans also are receiving more than their money's worth.  One Boston fan blogged, "Murphy sang with the resilience of a survivor who will always continue to grow and change. His performance let us in on a taste of what his journey has been like. I know I felt changed by it. Murphy's show was a true rock 'n' roll baptism."  A female working in Washington, DC media had never heard of either artist, and her boyfriend was curious about the venue they played in.  She said, "This was the most memorable night of rock & roll I've ever had.  Both artists are great."

Marco Benevento will call Northern California home in February when he hosts a four week residency at Yoshi's in Oakland. Supporting his new release, Me Not Me (available February 3 from The Royal Potato Family), Benevento is set to appear every Tuesday of the month at the prestigious east bay jazz venue with a different set of special guests. On February 17, week three, guitarist Jeff Parker of Tortoise joins Benevento along with the Nels Cline Singers' rhythm section, bassist Devin Hoff and drummer Scott Amendola.  Rounding out Benevento's four consecutive Tuesdays at Yoshi's will be "Quartet The Killer," performing the music of Neil Young, for which Benevento will be joined by his partner in The Duo, drummer Joe Russo, along with tenor saxophonist Peter Apfelbaum and trombonist Josh Roseman.

The Los Angeles Times recently selected Marco Benevento as a "2009 Artist To Watch" in anticipation of Me Not Me. The ten track collection finds Benevento interpreting the work of artists such as Deerhoof, Leonard Cohen, George Harrison and My Morning Jacket among others. Benevento also contributes three original compositions, including "Now They're Writing Music," which was first performed as a rough sketch last spring when the Brooklyn-based pianist appeared on "The World Cafe With David Dye." Brave Citizens Announce December West Coast Tour

photos by Emily Ibarra- for the Grateful Web

California's BRAVE CITIZENS have had a year of non-stop action in 2008—consistent touring, critical acclaim, and the release of the Deluxe Edition of REVOLUTIONS this fall—that has combined to fuel countless successes for a band that just one year ago was quietly releasing their digital debut to the world. To celebrate, the boys of BRAVE CITIZENS have tacked on an additional run of dates for December where they'll be joined by Portland indie-rock outfit Brightwood. The 10-day stretch launches December 12 in Sacramento, California.

By melding ethereal vintage with modern flair, BRAVE CITIZENS presented Revolutions as a rock album at its core. But what lies within—bold grandeur, big ambience, and melody-soaked pop power—is the display of the band's ability to transcend a simple genre tag or style affiliation and root each listener in its complete emotionality.

When the digital album hit the internet last winter, the blogosphere chatter began to demand the band's live presence. Ever since, BRAVE CITIZENS' constant motion has led to a string of dates on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, a co-headline stint on The Daily Chorus Tour and captivating shows at clubs and universities throughout the west coast all year long.

Meanwhile, influential music outlets including Myspace.com, AOL Music, Alternative Press Magazine, FUSE TV and Purevolume.com have started taking note, while songs from Revolutions are beginning to spin at radio in Los Angeles and land in television shows across a number of networks.

On December 12, BRAVE CITIZENS will launch their final trek of 2008 with a 10-day tour alongside friends Brightwood. These shows advance BRAVE CITIZENS' forthcoming nationwide tour, set to launch in January 2009 (an official announcement is expected next month.)  The December dates will extend from the west coast into the northwest and include stops in Reno, Santa Rosa, Portland, Seattle and Salem, among others.
