Phish: Live In Utica Box Set In Stores 5/24!

On October 20, 2010 Phish played their first ever show in Utica in the heart of the Mohawk Valley.  Utica Memorial Auditorium is a hockey arena with a capacity of about 5,700 and a design very similar to another round room and favorite Empire State Phish venue, Madison Square Garden.  Utica was the smallest venue on Phish's fall tour and the atmosphere was charged with electricity - the music was swinging, inspired and transcendent with a crowd that rose to the occasion.  One clever fan even went so far as to craft a "Guyutica" sign that no doubt helped shape the night’s events.  A new camera mounted at the front-of-house position accentuated the light show in a way never before featured on a live, indoor Phish DVD.  Set one was bookended by a soul sandwich, opening with "My Soul" and closing with "Run Like An Antelope" ("set the gearshift for the high gear of your soul").  "Vultures" and a funky "Wolfman's Brother" > "Cities" with local references brought the show to an early fever pitch.  The music seemed to play the band as intricate, full-band improvisation intertwined the songs of set one throughout an absurdly creative sequence of "Guyute", "David Bowie" and "Wilson”.  The show's theme song "Guyute" bloomed again repeatedly during "Saw It Again" and "Run Like An Antelope", both of which oozed with exquisite detail fueled by a fully mind-melded band and audience.  Set two built on the momentum of a stellar first set, opening the door with a patient, jazzy "Sand" > "Theme From The Bottom" and diving headlong through it with an explosive combination of "Split Open And Melt" > "Have Mercy" > "Piper" > "Split Open And Melt" > "Slave To The Traffic Light" that nearly blew the roof off the Utica Aud. By the time “Birds Of A Feather” re-appeared during “Piper”, it could accurately be described as Uticular.  In keeping with its series of interrelated themes, nearly optimum flow and an overall magical glow, Utica also showcased some relative rarities from The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday such as "McGrupp And The Watchful Hosemasters" and "Tela".

The nearly three hours of music on the Utica box set was recorded with 64 channels of digital multi-track and beautifully mixed and mastered, appearing on the DVD's in 5.1 Dolby surround and full-resolution, uncompressed PCM stereo. The video was shot with 8 cameras (16:9 widescreen), recorded and post-edited in High Definition.  Combining a stellar performance with gorgeous improvisation and a healthy sense of adventure, Utica makes it clear that the band is back and playing for keeps.

The Utica box set features the complete October 20, 2010 performance on 2-DVD’s and 2-CD’s to be released nationwide on May 24th.  The box set presents three hours of crucial Phish in an intimate venue with an inspired audience that returned the energy at every turn.

The band will conclude their Mile-High stay with a two-night stand at the renowned Quixote’s True Blue in Denver on the 24th and 25th.

U-Melt will head south for the final three dates of the tour, debuting at the Flytrap Music Hall in Tulsa, OK on Tuesday, April 28th and the Buc Days Festival in Corpus Christi, TX on the 30th. Proving that all good things must come to an end, U-Melt will bring their Spring Tour 2009 to a close in the Big Easy as the band makes their third consecutive late night Jazz Fest appearance at the Blue Nile on May 2nd. U-Melt- for the Grateful Web

It is our pleasure to announce U-Melt's 2009 Winter Tour! The tour will kick off on Thursday, January 22nd at Mulcahy's in Wantagh, NY and conclude during the last weekend of February when U-Melt returns to Phildelphia's North Star and a stop at Hunter Mountain for the first annual Winter Jam. In between, U-Melt will be returning to some of our favorite spots in the Northeast, including Boston, S. Burlington, Baltimore, Ithaca, Albany/Troy, Syracuse, and Northampton, as well as debuts at Maxwell's in Hoboken, The Ocean Mist in Wakefield, RI and The Fairfield Theater Company in Fairield, CT.

Following that show, U-Melt will be making stops in Raleigh, Wilmington, Charleston, Charlotte, and Atlanta, where we are very excited to be performing a late night show at Smith's Olde Bar following Umphrey's McGee's performance at the Varierty Playhouse earlier in the evening. The southern run will conclude the following night, Saturday February 21st, when U-Melt returns to Columbia, SC to rock the The Five Points Pub.

King Blues Club on Friday, April 10th, when U-Melt will perform an Umphrey's McGee After Party, following Umphrey's show at Nokia Theater earlier that night. This show will mark the second installment of the pairing of U-Melt and their very good friend Wyllys! U-Melt will be re-uniting with Wyllys on a progressive series of events that touch on different aspects of electronic music. The two artists will perform interlocking sets with the middle set focused on particular styles of beats native to the areas they play. In Chicago this past December, we riffed on legendary Chicago house music and in New York, we will drop some drum and bass like they use to at Concrete Jungle. U-Melt Back on the Road with Fall Tour

U-Melt- for the Grateful Web

The New York City based progressive groove machine known as U-Melt has announced their twelve state fall 2008 tour that will take them from the east coast, to the Rocky Mountains and back again – all before Thanksgiving. The nineteen-show trek, kicking off October 3rd at the Highline Ballroom in New York City, will feature familiar stops in familiar cities, as the dynamic quartet closes out the year. And of course, what U-Melt fall tour would be complete without one of their legendary Halloween performances?

Boasting a reputation as one of the hardest working bands in the business, U-Melt showcases their diligent work ethic through their musical chops. Blazing guitar runs, precise rhythms, punchy bass lines and mind-bending keys comprise the trademark U-Melt sound, as the band manages to raise the bar night in and night out. With a penchant for taking listeners on a musical journey through time and space, the four piece provides an aural experience unlike any other. U-Melt blends elements of rock, jazz, trance and funk and fuses them into a musical state of mind.

After the tour kickoff show, U-Melt will return to Castaways for a Saturday night party in Ithaca, NY. Following stops in Ohio and Kansas, the group will make their long awaited return to Colorado with shows at the Fox Theater in Boulder and Dulcinea's and Owsley's in Denver October 9th through the 11th. The three night stand will mark the first time the band has played in Colorado since early 2008, when the band played seven shows in seven nights at a mile high. U-Melt will then return back east, rocking Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York, before capping the tour off at The North Star in Philadelphia on November 15th. Included in the mix will be U-Melts Halloween spectacular, which will be held this year at the brand new Westcott Theater in Syracuse, NY.

Continuing on a path of evolution, U-Melt marches on like a well-oiled machine. Their dedication to the music shines in every performance. Don't miss U-Melt on tour this fall!
