Hit by a Train -- the Old 97’s in Boulder

I left the Boulder Theater with both ears ringing thoroughly and my head in a satiated state of buzz, and in fact I was bone sober (as far as intoxicants are concerned).

STS9 Release AXE THE CABLES Today on 1320 Records

In December of 2009, STS9 sat down in Denver, Colorado in one of America's most pristine modern opera houses to create "Axe The Cables... An Evening of STS9." What this night encompasses is one of the most flawless evenings of STS9 music in the band's decade plus history.  The entire show was played, for the most part, sans all "electric" gear including the common stage instrumentation of laptops and samplers that fans have grown accustomed to as the band's sound has evolved. To say the event was a hit is an understatement.  It was a night legends are made of...so much so that the band has decided to re-mix and re-master this into one massive release on their ever-exploding indie record label, 1320 Records.

Axe the Cables is available now exclusively through 1320 Records and iTunes.

Taking place Wednesday, September 17 at the Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA, the evening is free and open to the public. The evening will be powered in part by Gibson Guitars.

Joe Bonamassa is one of the premier blues-rock guitarists of his generation. At the early age of 12 he was already a touring pro, opening for the legendary B.B. King. Since then, Joe's incendiary playing has earned him a loyal legion of fans and numerous albums in Billboard's Top 10 blues chart. Also a gifted singer and songwriter, Joe Bonamassa was named Best Blues Guitarist by Guitar Player Magazine's readership in their annual Reader's Choice Awards for 2008, and recently released From Nowhere in Particular, a 2-CD live album recorded during his fall 2007 U.S. tour and released on his own J&R Adventures label. The CD debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Charts. Joe also hosts "Daily Cup Of Joe" as well, a Monday-Friday show on Sirius Satellite Radio's Blues Channel 74 that airs from 12-12:15 PM (ET).

Coming Soon: An Evening With Hot Tuna!

Go see Hot Tuna!- for the Grateful Web

Few musicians living or dead have reached the sort of legendary status reached by Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founding members and heart and soul of Hot Tuna.  And if they have, they probably don't look so good doing it (think Keith Richards).  Friends and collaborators for over 50 years now, including a little thing in the 60's known as The Jefferson Airplane, Jorma and Jack have built between them the sort of musical symbiosis that most relationships don't last long enough to attain.

Jorma and Jack played music together as children, with Jack on lead guitar and Jorma on rhythm.  Even after being separated by miles and circumstances early in adulthood, Jorma and Jack reunited to play together, each dabbling in new instruments and styles. Jack Casady started playing electric bass at a time when it was unpopular to do so, and Jorma Kaukonen honed his skills with elaborate finger-picking.  In the mid 60's they joined a band forming in San Francisco, and thus was born The Jefferson Airplane.  Jorma and Jack continued to work on their own side project, which became Hot Tuna sometime after their first album was recorded.  Known at one time in their careers for playing three to six hour sets, uninterrupted, Hot Tuna has had huge success as both a large, loud and electric act, and as an acoustic duo.  This side project has been going strong for more than 35 years.

On Thursday, May 8th, Hot Tuna will be stopping by the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado, with shows in Apsen and Denver on the 9th and 10th.  These special acoustic and electric shows are not to be missed, and its only every so often that one gets to find one's self in the presence of living legends.  And it won't even cost an arm or a leg (think Keith Richards again)!  Regarded by many as some of the best guitar and bass players in existence, Jorma and Jack are certain to rock you until your ears hurt, but it might be one of the best hurts you'll ever have.

Oh, and it probably won't last six hours. Probably.
