DSO Spring Tour

New West Coast Dates

As the winter ice begins to melt, we will start our Spring Tour in April. Joining us on guitar and vocals for this tour will be Stu Allen of (JGB). With his eagerness to improvise and his commitment to making every performance unique, Stu has made extensive contributions to the jam music scene. In the early 1990's, he co-founded the Minnesota-based acoustic-electric jam band, Blue Man Jive. In addition, he is a founding member of The Jones Gang , Minneapolis' premier Grateful Dead tribute band. He can't wait to get out on the road and play for you folks. The tour will kick off with a run through the Colorado Rockies including stops in Aspen, Avon and 2 nights in Boulder at The Boulder Theater of all places! From there, it's westward bound to Portland, Seattle and Reno before another 2 night stand, this time in San Francisco at The Regency Ballroom. After San Fran it's on to LA for a show at the El Rey Theatre before closing out the tour in Solona Beach. Rocky Mountain High to California Sun. Hope to see you out there!

Visit our TOUR DATES PAGE for tickets, more info and additional show announcements this coming week.

A Cosmic Time Was Had By All

It seemed that everyone had a blast this year as we celebrated the New Year in Baltimore at Rams Head Live with 6 plus hours of music. The Bridge kicked off the night with a smokin' set with Rob Koritz sitting in for most of the show. We then rolled into our 2nd ever Acoustic Set on the east coast: Deep Elem, Monkey, Cold Jordan, You Ain't Woman Enough, Midnight Moonlight, Mountains of the Moon into Ripple. We took a short break and rocked right into our 1st Electric Set: Help>Slip>Franklin's, Cassidy (w/Donna), Next Time You See Me, Cumberland, Midnight Hour - into the countdown and back to Midnight Hour>China>Rider. At midnight, there was the thunder of confetti cannons, a shower of balloons and a return of Father Time as he welcomed in the New Year by shadowing the musicians and dancing his timeless freaky dance with Donna Jean. As the confetti settled and the balloons kept bouncing, we went into our 3rd Set Scarlet (w/Donna)>William Tell>The Eleven>Fire(w/Both ladies)>Drumz>Sp...anish jam>Alligator>Blues for Allah>St Stephen>Viola Lee. Encores w/ both ladies...I'll Be With Thee>Tangled Up in Blue. We hope that you all had as much fun as we did and we wish you all the happiest and healthiest of New Years.

The Boat Was A Rockin'

As the ship set sail, DSO launched their first set of the week on the Pool Deck with an original setlist packed with gems. A massive segway of Playin in the Band-> Cryptical->The Other One->Cryptical->Drums->Space->Playin in the Band->Eyes of the World->Sugar Magnolia sent the ship dancing into the high seas. A couple nights later the band held court in the Teatro Carlo Felice Theater closing out night 4 of the cruise. From the opening jam that led to Shakedown Street, the night was on. The sets highlight was the run of Alligator->St Stephen->William Tell Bridge->The Eleven->Drums->Space-> Truckin->Death Don't Have No Mercy->Lovelight.

In addition to the two formal sets, various DSO members were found all over the boat in different musical groupings. Both Rob Koritz and Rob Barraco were found in The Jam Room well past 5:00 am on more than one occasion. Rob Koritz joined The Everyone Orchestra for their improvised set. Dino joined the Rock Star Karaoke Band which included members of Hot Buttered Rum. As pictures and recordings surface we are sure to uncover other stories and will share them as they come to light.

THE BRIDGE Announce NYC Residency At Gramercy Theatre

The Bridge have announced plans for a four week residency in December at The Gramercy Theatre in New York City where they'll perform every Monday night of the month. The shows will be free and feature different special guests and opening acts at each performance. It's a fitting conclusion to 2009 for the Baltimore-based band, a year in which they toured prolifically throughout the U.S., including festivals like Wakarusa, All Good and Gathering Of The Vibes and support slots with Derek Trucks Band, Little Feat and Umphrey's McGee.

"I'm really looking forward to us having an opportunity to come to NYC and be able to kick back and stretch out for a change. It's usually a hurry up and hit it hard kind of situation there and the energy in that city is always extra intense anyway. So im really excited for us to settle in and let each night take us where it will," states The Bridge's primary songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Cris Jacobs. "We're gonna keep it spontaneous and loose and have some special guests join in on the fun. Previous residencies have always given us some of our most inspirational musical moments and that combined with the extra juice that New York City always has is going to be pretty damn fun."

In a recent Relix Magazine feature, the publication wrote: "Jacobs and Liner sing earnestly about what they consider to be archetypal themes in American music: rambling, lost love, trains and moonshine...the music is a heady amalgamation of influences recalling The Black Crowes, Little Feat and The Neville Brothers." Hittin' The Note explained the band's sound like this: "The Bridge call to mind bayou bluesman Tab Benoit backed by the Radiators during 'Honey Bee,' and bluegrass fertilized with hot sauce on the wild 'Dirtball Blues.' They also play urgent, funky, jazz-fired soul in 'Heavy Water,' and use a Stevie Ray Vaughan-inspired guitar figure to drive the burly blues 'Diggin' In The Cold Ground.' And there's so much more variety, most of it giving off some sort of pungent New Orleans aroma. Singer/guitarist Cris Jacobs and singer/mandolin player Kenny Liner are the two distinct songwriters that afford The Bridge such vast stylistic swings. But they, along with bassist Dave Markowitz, sax man Patrick Rainey, drummer Mike Gambone, and keyboardist Mark Brown, have a surprising cohesiveness born of a desire to make compelling Americana roots-rock in the classic sense."

The Bridge's latest album Blind Man's Hill is available now on Hyena Records.

The Gaslight Anthem Ogden Theatre, Denver, CO

Say hello to the crowd, tell some stories, play a few songs, crack a couple of jokes and say goodnight. The format for a live concert is fairly predictable, even for those who have not attended very many. The Gaslight Anthem's ability to take this simple formula and turn it into something memorable is what separates them from many of the others bands I have seen.

Railroad Earth CD Release Party at Ogden Theatre June 13-14

photo by Phil Emma- for the Grateful Web

Anticipation has been building for a new release and for the first time in 4 years, Railroad Earth found themselves back in the studio recording all new material.  It's definitely a home-grown project, much like the band itself.  Railroad Earth's new studio release, Amen Corner, was written and recorded at Lone Croft: an empty, 300 year-old house in New Jersey's rural countryside.  What happened inside the building was the experience of a lifetime for the band's members, resulting in an early creative pinnacle of a gifted young band, and an album that is an instant Americana classic.  Amen Corner is a collection of crisp and crafted roots, bluegrass, and acoustic sides that resonates in all the right places. The tunes breathe both on and between the notes.  They hit you immediately, but then linger like a good buzz.  Look for Amen Corner to hit in June 10, 2008 on SCI Fidelity Records.
