Slightly Stoopid Announces Spring Tour Dates

Slightly Stoopid is on tour this spring with dates on both coasts and more than a few stops in between. In addition to headlining gigs at clubs and amphitheaters across the country, Slightly Stoopid will also play a number of high-profile spring festivals including The Hangout Music Festival on May 20 in Gulf Shores, AL; and Hookahville in Thornville, OH on May 29.

First up though, the band will host their annual 4/20 show in their home state of California. Set to take place on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at Los Angeles’ legendary Greek Theatre, Slightly Stoopid’s “420 At The Greek” show will help kick-off the Greek’s 80th anniversary celebration season. Joining Slightly Stoopid for this historic event will be none other than the legendary original Bad Brains and Jamaican dancehall icon Barrington Levy.

When not on the road, Slightly Stoopid has been hunkered down at the band’s headquarters in San Diego, hard at work on their seventh studio album. Just minutes from the surf and fully equipped with a half-pipe skate ramp, video game room and recording studio, it’s the perfect environment to spark the band’s creativity. Collaborating in the studio of late: G. Love, Cypress Hill, Don Carlos, Del the Funky Homosapien, Barrington Levy, Ian Neville, Collie Buddz and more. The album is expected late summer 2011.

Formed in 1995 in San Diego, CA’s Ocean Beach by childhood friends Miles Doughty (guitar, bass, vocals) and Kyle McDonald (guitar, bass, vocals), Slightly Stoopid has become one of the most influential and progressive improvisational musical outfits on the tour circuit. The band has sold over 750,000 albums and now releases all material on Doughty and McDonald’s own record label, Stoopid Records.

JETHRO TULL Celebrates AQUALUNG's 40th Anniversary w/ North American Tour

In celebration of the park bench, dribbly-nosed voyeur's 40th Anniversary, Ian Anderson returns to the USA with his band Jethro Tull, starting June 8 in Denver, CO and ending on the 27 in Chicago, IL.

The group features longtime members Ian Anderson (flute, vocals, acoustic guitar) and Martin Barre (guitars), Doane Perry (drums), as well as David Goodier (bass) and pianist John O'Hara.  The latter two joined in 2006 after working with Ian on some of his solo projects.

The group will be performing the Aqualung album in its entirety plus a range of their other favorites from the lat 42 years.  Critics dubbed AQUALUNG “a concept album,” particularly for Ian's critical, skeptical views of organized religion, mostly on side B ("My God," "Hymn 43"). Anderson has disputed - almost resented - the assessment seeing the record as "just a bunch of songs." This led the band to give the critics a full-blown concept album with the following studio release THICK AS A BRICK which topped the Billboard charts in 1972.

On AQUALUNG, the group explores the struggles of the less fortunate in our society (e.g., "Aqualung," "Cross-Eyed Mary," "Up to Me"). Teenage angst and formal education difficulties (e.g., "Wind Up") are explored, and Ian returns to his parental themes with "Cheap Day Return," a tune encompassing Anderson's feelings while traveling North on the train to visit his sick father. "Locomotive Breath" touches on the issues of globalization, population expansion and runaway economics. Sound familiar?

Formed in 1968, Jethro Tull released its first album THIS WAS late in that year and followed up in 1969 with STAND UP.  In the 1970s, the group was one of the most successful live performing acts on the world stage, rivaling Zeppelin, Elton John and even the Rolling Stones. Surprising, really, for a group whose more sophisticated and evolved stylistic extravagance was far from the Pop and Rock norm of that era.

With now some 30-odd albums to their credit and sales totaling more than 50 million, the apparently un-commercial Tull continues to perform over a 100 concerts per year with its rich variety and depth of expression, wherever fans, young and old, want to hear Rock, Folk, Jazz and Classical-inspired music. Music for boys in long trousers and girls with brains.

In 2011, Tull will tour in Australia, Ireland, and Germany.  And Ian will perform solo shows in Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Panama, Mexico, Czech Republic, the UK, Sweden, Denmark and Finland finishing with his customary charity Christmas concerts at three UK cathedrals.

In 2006, Ian was awarded a Doctorate in Literature from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement in Music and, in the New Years Honours List 2008, an MBE for services to music. In 2012, he expects to be awarded the Smithsonian Medal of Honor for smelling OK for someone his age and having ears still in proportion to the rest of his head. His bladder remains elastic and his prostate the size of a pinhead.

Simon Posford Brings The Shpongletron Experience & Younger Brother to the US

Pioneering musician/producer/composer/DJ Simon Posford storms the U.S. this spring and summer with a massive run of Shpongle “Hybrid” DJ dates, debuting the highly anticipated “Shpongle presents The Shpongletron Experience.” For this tour, Posford reveals his brand-new "Decks, FX & 101" show made up of an arsenal of turntables, synths, and effects units. The tour coincides with the release of Younger Brother’s studio release, Vaccine. Vaccine is the third release for which Posford teams with longtime collaborators Benji Vaughan and Ruu Campbell.

The Shpongletron Experience's extended trek across the U.S.A. begins April 12 and will run into July, including performances at such festivals as the Coachella Music and Art Festival, Electric Forest, Wakarusa and others. For the tour, the brand new Shpongle Hybrid DJ show finds Posford on turntables with his vintage analog Roland SH 101 and live synth effects. The complete list of tour dates is included below.

The elaborately staged multi-media presentation, which Posford describes as a "maelstrom of beauty and surprise," can be expected to raise the bar on Shpongle's longstanding reputation for providing mind-bending, fully immersive multi-dimensional, multi-sensory experiences. The shows will incorporate The Shpongletron, a pyramid-like 18-foot structure (designed by Coast II Coast Entertainment and VJ Zebbler specifically for this tour) which will blast audiences with four levels of psychedelic mayhem, along with dancers, multiple video screens and a live DJ set by Posford. Posford will also showcase tracks off the recently released Shpongle EP The God Particle. Random Rab will open the shows.

The Shpongletron Experience tour coincides with the versatile Londoner's other current project: the release of Younger Brother's scintillating new album Vaccine. Vaccine (April 26, 2011/SCI Fidelity Records) is the third album by Younger Brother, in which Posford teams with longtime collaborators Benji Vaughan and Ruu Campbell. The album, which features Marc Brownstein (Disco Biscuits) on bass, Tom Hamilton (Brothers Past) on guitar and Joe Russo (who also plays in the Grateful Dead spin-off act Furthur) on drums, marks a notable evolution from the band's electronic origins, embracing melodic song structures and organic instrumental sounds.

A “U.K.” lineup of Younger Brother tours select U.S. cities this April - with Posford (synth/guitar), Vaughan (Ableton / synth) and Campbell (vocals) joined by Matt White on guitar, Chris Borud on bass and Nikolaj Bjerre on drums.

Rebirth Brass Band Announce 'Rebirth of New Orleans'

Rebirth Brass Band is proud to announce the release of their new album, Rebirth of New Orleans, out April 12 via Basin Street Records. The new album was produced by GRAMMY® Award winner Tracey Freeman (Harry Connick, Jr., Kermit Ruffins). For a sample of what to expect, listen to “Do It Again.”

Hailed by the New York Times as “a New Orleans institution,” the Rebirth Brass Band have been at the forefront of the brass band revival that they helped kick off almost 30 years ago. Formed by the Frazier brothers, Phil and Keith, along with Basin Street labelmate Kermit Ruffins in 1983, the Rebirth Brass Band has gone from playing on corners in the French Quarter to selling out concert halls across the world and appearing in David Simon’s HBO hit “Tremé.” It’s been a long road, but the Rebirth Brass Band has become one of the most beloved brass bands in New Orleans and around the world.

Since their founding, they’ve developed a signature brand of heavy funk that they expand upon on their latest effort, Rebirth of New Orleans. Opener “Exactly Like You” starts the album off with a rollicking, Mardi Gras stomp. “The Dilemma” and “Do It Again” find the group locking in to a down-tempo, Latin-influenced grooves, anchored by Phil Frazier’s tuba. And “Shrimp and Gumbo” and “Feelin’ Fine” find the band effortlessly perfecting the New Orleans-style brass lines that put the city on the map.

Rebirth Brass Band were featured in the opening scene of David Simon’s hit HBO show “Tremé” as well as on the GRAMMY® nominated soundtrack. No band exemplifies the essence and soul of New Orleans like Rebirth Brass Band.
