The Radiators Farewell Tour at the Fox Theatre

One of rock n’ rolls longest and New Orleans’ finest traveling road shows will come to an end after 33 years when The Radiators play their final two shows at Tipitina’s in New Orleans on June 10th & 11th. Lucky fans in the Boulder area can catch the band one last time at The Fox Theatre on February 10th.

Formed out of a jam session in 1978 The Radiators still feature the same 5 original members, Ed Volker (Lead Vocals, Keyboards) Dave Malone (Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar), Camile Baudoin ( Lead Guitar, Bkgrnd Vocals), Reggie Scanlan (Bass) & Frank Bua, Jr. (Drums). The Rads achieved significant commercial success in the late 80’s with the release of the classic albums Law Of The Fish and Total Evaporation. They have also released over 10 albums on independent labels and currently have 6 CDs available including Wild & Free a 2008 2 CD retrospective on their own Radz Records.  The band has played over 4500 shows and kept up a consistent tour schedule, still playing close to 150 dates a year. Additionally, they have held down the closing slot at the prestigious New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival for over 25 years.

Volker, who handles the majority of the songwriting as well as splitting lead vocals with Malone informed his band mates a couple of weeks ago that he no longer wanted to endure the day to day struggles of life on the road and was exhausted from the constant touring. The other band members have yet to announce their future plans and have not ruled out the possibility of working together in the future, but the departure of Volker (affectionately known to fans as “Zeke Fish Head”) brings to an end the original version of a treasured rock n’ roll institution.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo Bring Vocal Serenity, Song & Humor on Tour

Ladysmith Black Mambazo kick off their North American tour on January 18 in Oakland, CA, blending their iconic, moving harmonies with high-energy toe-touches and audience sing-alongs.  The tour will make stops in over 40 major markets across the US and Canada (including Hawaii) in just two months.

From the stage, Mambazo's nine-man a cappella team will transport concert-goers to the open fields and idyllic world of their youth in South Africa's Zulu country, singing the traditional South African folk tunes from their forthcoming album 'Songs From A Zulu Farm' (out February 1 from Listen 2 Entertainment Group/ Razor & Tie Entertainment) as well as selections from their nearly 50 year career.

These songs speak to the universal joys of childhood. "Whether you are in Ladysmith, Virginia, or Ladysmith, South Africa," says Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder and frontman Joseph Shabalala, "children are hearing songs they will carry with them for the rest of their lives and share with their own children. We hope that these songs sung to South African children can be enjoyed by families in many other places in the world."

Old 97's w/ Langhorne Slim @ Boulder Theater

Since the Old 97's roared out of Dallas more than fifteen years ago, they have blazed a trail through alt-country and power-pop, led by the piercingly observant lyrics of lead singer Rhett Miller. Each new Old 97's record is hotly anticipated, and rightfully so: "Blame It On Gravity," from 2008, contained some of the band's most deeply felt and passionately played songs. But in a career full of high-water marks, "The Grand Theatre Volume 1″ is perhaps the most ambitious and accomplished set of recordings yet.

The album, the band's eighth, began to come together last year, when Miller was on a solo tour of Europe with Steve Earle. "When I started in this band, I wrote on the road constantly," Miller says. "But I was 23 then, so everything was new to me. Over the years, those strange and wonderful things have begun to feel more commonplace. On the familiar highways, in familiar hotels, it's pretty easy to turn into a zombie. But on this tour, I was in England and Ireland and Scandinavia, places where I haven't spent very much time in, and because of that things seemed somehow fresh. I felt recharged."

The result was a set of songs rooted in specific locations. "The title track, which I wrote in Leeds, is like a series of postcards that try to capture the moment of falling in love; it begins in the Grand Theatre, which is a historic venue there, on the elevator. There's another song, "Every Night Is Friday Night (Without You)," that I wrote, or at least started to write, while I was walking around in Soho. And a song like "The Dance Class" wouldn't have happened if I wasn't in Birmingham, trapped in a hotel, looking out at streets that were bleak and gray except for a dance studio across the way. I imagined an agoraphobic who sees a beautiful girl in that studio and fantasizes about being freed by her." Miller's portraits of love and loneliness are paired with some of the sharpest music the band has ever produced, from the propulsive celebration of "Every Night Is Friday Night (Without You)" to the manic (and almost panicked) energy of "The Dance Class."

THE BRIDGE Announce 'National Bohemian' & Tour Dates

The Bridge will release their fifth studio album National Bohemian on February 1, 2011 through Woodberry Records/Thirty Tigers. For its latest effort, the Baltimore-based six-piece enlisted Grammy Award-winning producer and Los Lobos multi-instrumentalist Steve Berlin to join the band behind the boards. Ranging from the sonically dense, voodoo-tinged rock of "Sanctuary" to the modern day murder ballad "Moonlight Mission," the 11-track collection is shaped by the dynamics that distinguish the band's two principle songwriters Cris Jacobs and Kenny Liner. Jacobs delivers Dixie-drenched southern soul, while Liner's approach is steeped in swaggering American roots music. As a preview to the recording, The Bridge is offering a free download of "Moonlight Mission" at their website.

Plans are set for The Bridge to tour throughout 2011 in support of National Bohemian. They'll kick off the year sharing a three-night co-bill with Trombone Shorty that includes New Year's Eve at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. The band will then celebrate the album's release by headlining a hometown record release party at Ram's Head Live in Baltimore on January 29. In February, The Bridge will head out for a string of dates across the east coast with Tea Leaf Green before traveling to the midwest to support Galactic. Keller Williams Announces Winter 2010 Tour

Today one-man-band Keller Williams announces his tour plans for early 2011. In addition to evening theatre shows in Austin, Chicago, and Philadelphia, Keller has confirmed some special matinee performances/book signings in select markets. That’s right, book signings. Hand-in-hand with the release of Keller Williams’ sixteenth album — and first-ever album for kids and families — appropriately titled Kids, Keller once again breaks new ground with the November 30 release of his very first children’s book, Because I Said So (Fun Read Publishing, $20, for ages 2-8, 33 pages).

Before the year’s end, Keller tours as the “Super Music Friend” along select Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! stops. For the holidays, Keller performs some very special shows in and around his hometown of Fredericksburg, Virginia, including his 10th annual SPCA Holiday Benefit. A complete list of currently confirmed shows – both evening and matinee performances - is included below.

Based on Keller’s song by the same name (included on Kids), Because I Said So is told through the eyes of “L’il Keller,” who begins by asking, “Mommy, can I have some pink flamingos?” The little fellow soon learns the important life lesson that you can’t always have what you want, and there isn’t always a good reason why. “You can't have an alligator, tractor, giraffe or hippopotamus, cause I said so!" Enhanced by the cleverly drawn illustrations of Virginia artist Bill Harris, Because I Said So is humorous, colorful, heartfelt, and wise. Included with the book is a CD containing the song "Because I Said So.” Because I Said So is available at www.kellerwilliamskids.net.

--

KIDS – Keller’s first album release for children and families - has already been warmly embraced by kids’ and music tastemakers:

"[Keller's] big-hearted wit is perfectly suited to the songs on Kids, a record that will entertain children of all ages without talking down to them." - All Music Guide

“Kids sparkles with invention.” - Technorati.com

“This is hands-down my favorite kids album of all time.” - Perfect Porridge

--

A number of gift packages that include both Kids and Because I Said So, as well as kid-sized T-shirts with the cute-as-can-be goat babies from the album cover, are available at www.kellerwilliamskids.net.

Trombone Shorty joins forces with Los Amigos Invisibles for 2011 tour

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue join forces with Los Amigos Invisibles for what promises to be a knockout, high-energy tour that celebrates the new year.  Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, the fast-rising 24-year-old funk/rock star, has kicked his already impressive career into high gear worldwide with the release of Backatown, his Verve Forecast debut in April of this year. Los Amigos Invisibles, the Grammy-nominated, Venezuelan-rooted, New York City-based Latin-funk sextet, are sure to be the perfect match to create an explosive mix of musical and cultural styles destined to wring every bit of energy out of their audiences.

The February co-headline tour includes such highlights as a double bill at San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore Auditorium, a Grammy eve performance at L.A. Live’s Conga Room and a very special show during Fan Appreciation Week celebrating the new Austin City Limits Live venue at Moody Theatre.

Trombone Shorty, who possesses “the presence of a rock star” (The New York Times) and has built his reputation on “blistering, bold, exuberant and cutting edge” (USA Today) live performances, has a style perfectly complemented by co-headliners Los Amigos Invisibles, who “emanate pure Groove . . . walking bass lines, percolating percussion, scratchy guitar and relentless drums of a band that knows no difference between arty fun and sensual fire” (Rolling Stone).

Both artists have developed into global touring machines, each with a high level of swagger and visibility.

Los Amigos Invisibles were originally discovered by David Byrne in a Manhattan record shop. The multi-dimensional disco funk stars signed with Luaka Bop, moved to New York City from their native Venezuela and soon established themselves in the dance music scene with their elevated grooves.  Los Amigos have appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and played major festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.  The band won their first career Latin Grammy in 2009 with an acclaimed studio album, Commercial (Nacional Records), which includes guests Dimitri From Paris and Mexican singer Natalia Lafourcade. Their new EP, Not So Commercial, features B-sides and alternate versions from the group’s award-winning album’s studio sessions.

For Trombone Shorty and his six-piece touring band, Orleans Avenue, 2010 was a breakout year.  Their live performance schedule caught fire when Backatown debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz chart, holding the top spot for nine weeks and currently at #3 over six months later. Shorty and the band headlined concerts across North America, including a triumphant set with special guest Mystikal at Jazzfest, a rousing return to Bonnaroo, and a debut performance at the Hollywood Bowl for the Playboy Jazz Festival.  They made their Japanese debut at the acclaimed Fuji Rock Festival, followed by gigs in Rio and Sao Paolo.  After an historic performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival (and breaking the Festival’s all-time CD sales record), Shorty set off on a cross-Europe tour, highlighted by five shows in the coveted opening slot on Jeff Beck’s U.K. tour. This November Shorty and Orleans Avenue support Dave Matthews Band on tour and in December, Troy will serve as curator for the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Red Hot + New Orleans, a premiere concert event dedicated to funding AIDS research.

Trombone Shorty’s visibility quotient on national television continues at an explosive pace including recent appearances on the Late Show With David Letterman, NFL Kickoff 2010, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show, Austin City Limits, and HBO’s hit New Orleans drama Tremé. The band’s “Hurricane Season” was heard weekly on MTV’s The Real World, New Orleans as the opening title track and there is much more to come.

Along the way, the band will be joined by support acts including Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Orchard Lounge, Zach Deputy, Keller Williams and others to be announced. Ticket Presale for the US Winter Tour begins on Tuesday, November 16 at UMTicketing. Those who purchase early will be entered to win a cool merchandise package (1 winner for each show on the tour!). Visit www.umphreys.com for details. The complete list of winter tour dates is included below.

Before year’s end, Umphrey’s McGee will conclude 2010 with some special holiday performances. Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss’ 8th Annual acoustic holiday show to benefit Ustorm Foundation is on Saturday, December 4th at the Park West in their hometown of Chicago. The following weekend, Umphrey’s McGee is honored to be part of Warren Hayne’s 22nd annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, North Carolina. Finally, the band rings in the New Year with three nights at The Riviera Theatre in Chicago. Tickets for the New Year’s run are on sale now via Etix.

Umphrey’s McGee will release a collection of new music in early 2011. In a departure from the standard "album" format, Umphrey’s will instead offer up the highly anticipated new material via a series of digital EPs. To get fans warmed-up, Umphrey’s has released a free MP3 download of the band’s brand new song “Wellwishers.” Folks can download it here, and while there, fans can snatch up the Wellwishers widget to easily share the new tune with friends.

Visit www.umphreys.com for news of the bite sized music portions from the band’s perspective, and look for full details regarding the releases to be announced in the coming weeks.
