Bear In Heaven on Tour Now

Bear In Heaven are tearing it up one last time for 2010.  If you haven't seen them yet, this is a show that needs to be experienced.  Joining them along the way for their last US tour for the year, are Lower Dens, Twin Shadow, Sun Airway and Cloudland Canyon.  And just for fun the band have released yet another stellar remix, this time coming from UK band Tropics for the standout track "You Do You."

“Sometimes somebody will come along and amaze you, Tropics amazed us," said Bear In Heaven's Jon Philpot. "They opened up our song “You Do You” like the retractable roof of an arena. It’s slow and bumping. It’s kinda like Phil Collins."

Bear In Heaven's double LP Beast Rest Forth Mouth and special remix LP featuring The Field, Studio, High Places, Justin K. Broadrick (a.k.a. Jesu), & More is available now through Hometapes.

The remix LP has already recieved RAVE reviews in the UK, with the BBC calling it an "absorbing reinvention". In a time where remixes are as common as singles themselves, this is a band who have crafted their already dynamic sound and taken it to an exciting new level.

New Rubblebucket Mp3: "Michelle" (Beatles Cover)

Fresh off the release of the Triangular Daisies EP (Sin Duda Records), Rubblebucket is giving away the second track from the EP, “Michelle.” The track is the band’s left-field take on The Beatles’ Rubber Soul classic, which finds the band turning McCartney’s somber ballad into a spacey, orchestral groove. Download the track HERE. The band is currently on their “Triangular Tour,” which so far has taken the band from San Francisco to Maine and will end in Live Oak, FL for the Bear Creek Music Festival. After wrapping up this tour, the band will begin recording their next full-length with Eric Broucek (!!!, Holy Ghost!, Hercules and Love Affair) at DFA Studios in New York City, which should be released in early 2011.

Since the band formed in 2007, pinning down their sound has remained a difficult task.  At times, the band sounds like Brooklyn’s answer to Fela Kuti, with frenetic afrobeat rhythms rubbing elbows with infectious indie-pop hooks and catchy synths. Frontwoman/saxophonist Kalmia Traver explains, "We're children of this noisy age, with access to so much music from across time and space. We soak up all the sounds. What comes out can be unpredictable, but it will be uniquely ours."  Uniquely their own, indeed.

Regardless of where you place the band on the spectrum, the Triangular Daisies EP is a dramatic step forward for the band.  Opening with the title track, “Triangular Daisies” (listen HERE), the band pairs down the fiery grooves found on sophomore album Rubblebucketto craft a psychedelic indie-pop gem, complete with plaintive horns and infectious whistling. The EP also features the band’s undeniably contagious single “Came Out of a Lady,” (watch the video HERE) the recording of which was featured in the first episode of The Masters of Their Day project at Kaufman Astoria Studios. The Triangular Daisies EPends on a high note with the hypnotic live track “L’homme,” recorded during their set at Higher Ground this past May.

Rubblebucket started — like most great bands — at an art show in a defunct milk bottling plant in Burlington, VT.  Kalmia Traver met Alex Toth and soon formed Rubblebucket, building an eight-piece band from scratch with Toth as bandleader and trumpeter, and Traver taking on lead vocals and sax.  The band released their debut album, Rose’s Dream, as The Rubblebucket Orchestra in 2008.  The following year proved to be a big one for the band, with Rubblebucket releasing their self-titled sophomore album. SPIN hailed the band as a "must-hear artist from the 2009 CMJs,” and the band won that year’s Boston Music Award for Live Act of the Year. The band then relocated to Brooklyn, and has since been hard at work recording the follow-up to Rubblebucket, which is slated for release in early 2011.

Here We Go Magic Announce US Summer Tour

Here We Go Magic is a five-piece band made up of members Luke Temple, Kristina Lieberson, Michael Bloch, Jennifer Turner, and Peter Hale. They originally came together in New York in early 2009 through a series of chance encounters, overheard conversations and supernatural occurrences.

From disparate musical backgrounds, the five found immediate common inspiration in a collection of unique 4-track recordings created by lead singer Luke Temple. These recordings were released in February, 2009 as the self-titled Here We Go Magic (Western Vinyl).

Since this initial spark the band's creative momentum has been unwavering. Together they have developed a broad array of musical material and honed an explosive live sound all their own. They spent much of 2009 on successive North American and European tours with bands such Department of Eagles, Grizzly Bear, and the Walkmen, before retreating to a house near East Branch, NY to record their second full length LP.

Pigeons, set for release on Secretly Canadian on June 8th, was produced and recorded by Here We Go Magic over four months in the late Summer and Fall of 2009.  The band plans extensive touring in conjunction with its release.

Earl Greyhound To Release Sophomore LP "Suspicious Package"

EARL GREYHOUND is pleased to announce the release of Suspicious Package, a blistering rock inferno spun out of the Brooklyn trio’s inspired and innovative rock-n-roll imagination machine.  Suspicious Package was recorded at Red Bull Studios in Santa Monica, under the nimble and keen producerly auspices of Dave Schiffman (Mars Volta, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down).

Earl Greyhound formed in 2002 with the collaboration of songwriters Matt Whyte and Kamara Thomas, who began performing regularly as a duo in NYC. All the while, they were crafting the unique sound and songs that would form the foundation for a colossal rock band. Their influences swept from the strident English three-and four-pieces of the 70’s, to the dark pop and heavy grunge grooves of the 90’s, to the transcendental, noisy acid sounds of modern rock.

In 2005, EG recorded their first album, Soft Targets, but they also hit their first snag when drummer Chris Bear left to pursue his fortunes with the band Grizzly Bear. Reluctant to release the album without a permanent drummer, Matt and Kamara vowed to play relentlessly until their dream drummer found them. Guitar player Kirk Douglass (The Roots) witnessed a show and brought his friend and Gold Crowns band mate Ricc Sheridan to the next few gigs. Ricc says, “I awoke from a dream one night, and I knew this was my band.” A few weeks later, a rockneck-inducing jam confirmed that the band had found its soul mate, and they hit the ground running.  Soft Targets and EG’s wrecking ball of a live show earned them oodles of fans and critical acclaim from The New Yorker, SPIN, Rolling Stone, Brooklyn Vegan and Pitchfork, among others. The next three years were spent touring the US, Canada and Japan as well as opening for Gov’t Mule, Chris Cornell and Saul Williams.

Suspicious Package is Earl Greyhound’s sophomore release. The album marks a turning point in the band’s maturation since the benefit of Mr. Sheridan’s full creative collaboration. Listeners will notice a marked expansion into the higher reaches of the sonic territories. Heavy, dark, groovy and grand—Suspicious Package is a reminder that though ROCK is still only a four-letter word, it can still pack a load of splendor.

The Waybacks Are Loaded for Bear

This summer, The Waybacks are making a very special effort to bring their eclectic music to this year's 10,000 Lakes Festival in Detroit Lakes, MN next week. "We had the whole trip planned," James Nash, guitarist and lead singer for the band, explained, "and we got the 10KLF offer. We really wanted to do it so we just squeezed it in. We're playing in Nashville and then we're zooming up to Minnesota. We're flying from there over to the Northeast to finish up our trip.
