Lubriphonic to Open for Widespread Panic, CD Release Party & Free CD Download

Seasoned veterans of Chicago's blues scene Lubriphonic is a horn-infused, funk and soul stew.  The Gig Is On is their new CD which is due out later this fall and features a vintage sound steeped in soulful horn melodies that balance the searing guitar and pulsing rhythm section. To give the music community a ‘taster spoon’ of what Lubriphonic is all about, the band is offering the CD for free download via their websiteLubriphonic's funkier side shows up large with guest keyboardist Ivan Neville and his New Orleans treatment on four CD tracks. The CD Release Party for The Gig Is On is being held Saturday, September 25 at the Double Door in Chicago. Additionally, Lubriphonic is confirmed as the opening act at the October 8 Widespread Panic show at the Midland Theater in Kansas City, MO, a rare opening slot indeed for Widespread Panic, Confirms Hometown CD Release Party & Offers Free Download of New CD During September

Lubriphonic is the brainchild of guitarist Giles Corey and drummer Rick King which began as a residency at Chicago’s legendary Checkerboard Lounge, where they recruited some of the best blues, funk, and rock musicians in the city for improvisational live sessions in which the kinetic energy that make a band were initiated.  The evolution from performing as sidemen for the city’s most legendary blues stars such as Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Koko Taylor into an original group came from the hunger of each musician to develop an intense and simmering sound.

That sound continues as Lubriphonic’s nationwide tour threads down the West Coast this week with their CD Release Party coming up in Chicago next week. Music fans of all ages and backgrounds will find something familiar and enjoyable about Lubriphonic and with no strings attached, everyone can download a full copy of their new studio CD, The Gig Is On, here.

Smashing Pumpkins new single "Spangled"

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS are issuing a brand new track “Spangled” Tuesday, September 14, available exclusively as a free download for 24 hours through the website for The Sweet Relief Musicians Fund: www.sweetrelief.org. Spangled” will then become available the next day (Wednesday, September 15) at www.smashingpumpkins.com where a widget is also offered that enables fans to host the song anywhere on the web. “It’s just a pretty song,” says BILLY CORGAN of “Spangled,” which marks the sixth release from the band’s in-progress 44-song project TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE. It is the second song (the recently released “Freak” was the first) from what will be the band’s second EP--TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE VOLUME 2: THE SOLSTICE BARE --tied to this project.

When visitors go to the Sweet Relief website, they’ll be encouraged to donate to the organization, although it is not a requirement to contribute money when freely downloading the song. The Sweet Relief Musicians Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems.  Visitors to the site who donate $10.00 (or more) to the Sweet Musicians Relief Fund can also enter a raffle to win a Fender “Billy Corgan Stratocaster” custom guitar that will be signed by the musician.

The Pumpkins recently raised over $80,000 at their sold-out benefit concert Tuesday, July 27 at Chicago’s Metro for Matthew Leone, bassist for Chicago band Madina Lake. The money is going to the Matthew Leone Fund at Sweet Relief and is helping to pay for the ongoing medical care needed for the musician who this past June was hospitalized with severe brain trauma after intervening to stop a woman he passed on the street from being beaten by her husband.

In touring news, the band--singer/guitarist BILLY CORGAN, guitarist JEFF SCHROEDER, drummer MIKE BYRNE and bassist NICOLE FIORENTINO--have announced they will return to Australia this October for shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. They will also head to South America in November for shows in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Peru.

EOTO Announces Fall Tour Spanning Both Coasts

Consummate road dogs EOTO just announced a jam-packed fall tour with headlining dates spanning both coasts before topping off a wildly successful 2010. The 30+ day tour will kick off on September 21st featuring 11 dates with DJ's MiMOSA and MartyParty on the west coast and then beginning in October the duo will fly solo in the Mid-West before heading east for the remainder of the winter.

Throbbing bass and thudding beats are the signatures of this project from drummers Michael Travis and Jason Hann. Born out of their shared love of electronic dance music, EOTO's M.O. is to take the free-wheeling party vibe of a DJ set to the next level by using organic instruments, innovative performance technology, and uncharted musical exploration. Live drums, guitars, and keys, and vocals are mixed, remixed, and sampled on the fly using cutting-edge programs. This is all done without a script, and without a net.

Hann plays a hyper EQ'd drumkit, chock full of multi-touch screens and MIDI controllers, and throws a number of effects on his otherworldly vocal styles. Travis takes on subsonic frequencies, generating the band's crushing low end with analog, digital, and software synthesizers, occasionally picking up guitar or a bass guitar and showing off his proficiency with instruments of all shapes and sizes.

Hann, has been playing percussion professionally since the age of 12. Years of collaborating, touring, and recording with the likes of Youssou N'Dour, Isaac Hayes, Dr. Dre, Loreena McKinnett, SCI, and a slew of other established artists running the gamut from Latin jazz to R 'n' B and soul allows him to move fluidly between styles. Adding to this is his depth in African and Latin drumming traditions, allowing the futuristic EOTO sound to keep itself rooted in the past.

For the last 16 years, Travis has been the drumming octopus in SCI. He morphs roles to melodic multi-instrumentalist in EOTO, providing the raw basslines and harmonic tapestry that fill out the soundscape of the duo. Both Hann and Travis have the chops and stamina for physically demanding, EOTO improvised sets, which have been known to go upwards of 4 straight hours.

"When we're playing live for 3 hours a night, it's like playing tribal drums in a ceremony," Hann explains. "I'm looking at one person at a time out there, and thinking "what can I do to make you dance?"

Hann and Travis play almost 200 shows a year, together, EOTO has played more than seven hundred unique showcases in 48 different states in the five years since the project's inception. Each set is recorded and released (www.livedownloads.com) so fans can capture their unique EOTO dance throwdown, reliving the experience again and again.

Nicole Henry in NY Nov. 6 then joins the Duke Ellington Orchestra in Tokyo Nov. 18-24

Nicole Henry has won praise from both critics and audiences worldwide for her powerful ability to truly touch and inspire people with her beautiful voice and stunning presence.  She has released three international TOP 10-selling jazz CDs within the past five years and has toured in over ten countries. Jazz Improv writes, “…beautiful, emotionally evocative…a terrific voice and a sensitive way with a lyric.”  It’s with that same sensitivity that Nicole Henry mesmerizes audiences wherever she goes. Uplifting and captivating, her voice embraces jazz, pop and soulful nuances with a spirited ‘joie de vivre.”

Born in Philadelphia, Nicole was raised in the arts haven of Bucks County. After graduating from the University of Miami, Nicole performed throughout Miami singing pop, soul and original music, winning local awards and lending her voice to recordings. In 2004, after falling in love with the melodies, lyrics and freedom of jazz, Nicole released her solo debut CD The Nearness of You to critical acclaim.  In the U.S., Nicole received rave reviews and airplay on national jazz radio, including XM and Sirius Satellite Radio.  In Japan, after climbing to #2 on HMV Japan Jazz Charts, and staying in the TOP 10 for three months HMV Japan named Nicole “Best New Jazz Artist of 2004.” Her follow-up CD, Teach Me Tonight with the Eddie Higgins Trio reached #1 at HMV Japan, and earned her their honor of “Best Vocal Jazz Album of 2005.”

Nicole’s latest CD release, The Very Thought of You reached #7 on the U.S. Billboard Jazz Chart in September 2008, positioned between Diana Krall and Tony Bennett. This romantic CD features love songs, originals and gems from the great American Songbook. It was produced by music veteran Hal Batt (Regina Belle, Jean Carne, Julio Iglesias) with an assist from Executive Creative Producer Don Mizell (co-producer of Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company).

Nicole’s impressionable voice and ever increasing international popularity is also recognized by Delta Airlines. Among a select group of jazz greats like Miles Davis and Cassandra Wilson, Delta featured Nicole’s The Nearness of You CD on their in-flight entertainment programming for sixteen months on all international and U.S. transcontinental flights. With continued support, they are currently featuring The Very Thought of You. In the world of fashion, Nicole’s modern style and grace is considered a perfect match for designer Nicole Miller who exclusively sponsors Nicole’s performance wardrobe out of their South Beach- Miami boutique.

Billboard wrote that “Henry is a jazz vocalist on the cusp of bigger things,” and indeed she continues to be. Once you hear her there is one thing upon which everyone seems to agree, Nicole Henry is simply one of the finest vocalists to emerge this decade.

CAPE MAY JAZZ FESTIVAL NOV 6-8 “A Tribute to the Count”

2009 “A Tribute to the Count”

Count Basie

Swing with the timeless, priceless and still genuine Count Basie Orchestra at the Cape May Jazz Festival presented by the New Jersey Department of Travel and Tourism and Bank of America November 6th for one big thrill 8pm – 9:30pm in the Theatre at Lower Regional High School.  The Count Basie Orchestra of today is nineteen performers committed to upholding the Basie tradition with a keyboard set in motion, always swinging Kansas City style, winning 17 Grammies and continuing to perform across North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. Friday night continues with Richie Cole and “alto

He is “one of the last of the breed – a fast and competitive musical gunslinger demonstrating his command of Charlie Parker’s bebop language” states All About Jazz.  Barbara King returns by popular demand with her dusky, Sarah Vaughan-like qualities performing in Victorian Gardens at the Marquis De Lafayette Hotel.  Raised with a mix of family background cultures from Cuba, Jamaica and Costa Rica, and surrounded by music and

The listener hears the “elusive beauty” of Ravi through his tenor and soprano saxophone as an explosion of rhythmic and melodic sequences that float through the air with grace…deep, soulful, masterful with the appealingly Hendersonian tendency to lay back even

Trumpeter Dominic Farinacci performing in Carney’s Other Room began his career listening to Louis Armstrong and Harry James and received a full-tuition scholarship to Berklee. He opened for Wynton Marsalis at the Tri-C JazzFest in Cleveland after which Wynton invited him to solo with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. In 2008 he debuted with his own band at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Detroit International Jazz Festival and the Tri-C JazzFest.  This gifted, mature and very versatile artist performs with warmth and rich lyricism and is a talent who will be remembered.

Memphis Gold

Memphis Gold

Memphis Gold who continues the blues tradition at Cabanas evokes the vintage sounds of southern soul and blues and reveals his golden knack for resuscitating southern musical traditions.  Gold appeared on the cover of February 09 Living Blues Magazine where he is called a throwback to the blues men of yore who learned their licks at the knee of legendary patriarch Charlie Patton, who was king of the Mississippi Delta Blues.

The festival includes Jam Sessions Saturday and Sunday in Carneys, Blues Jams in Cabanas with Alan Weber and Frenz Saturday and Frank Bey and the Swing City Blues Band Sunday along with the complimentary workshops Saturday at Cape May Elementary School and the Saturday CD Signing Party compliments of Barefoot Wines.
