EOTO Heads West For California Tour

EOTO will kick off 2011 on the west coast in less than two weeks in sunny Stateline, NV with stops in San Francisco and San Diego before kicking off their extensive Spring Tour in March. The band, known for their signature 100% live improvised performances, will also be playing alongside a number of well known openers including NastyNasty and Vibesquad for select west coast shows.

Throbbing bass and thudding beats are the signatures of this project from drummers Michael Travis and Jason Hann. The duo moves effortlessly from choppy dubstep to whip-smart, four-on-the-floor house to psychedelic trip-hop. It's a dance marathon and everyone's in it together. A nebulous beast, set lists are only broken up into tracks for the sake of posterity. In reality, changes in mood, energy, and inspiration are reflected "in real-time" by rhythmic and melodic shifts.

Because EOTO starts fresh every night, the band's evolutionary progress has been thrust into hyperspeed, eclipsing standard acts who return to their dusty catalog for every performance. This is apparent when following the musical evolution of their live performances, which are recorded every night and made available to their fans for purchase. On EOTO's first 2 studio releases -- 2006's Elephants Only Talk Occasionally, and the 2008 release Razed, EOTO bounced playfully between house, trance, and breakbeat. A huge change in their sound came when Travis and Hann first saw, felt, and heard the cathartic vibes that dubstep could produce at DJ Skream's set at Shambhala during the Summer of 2008. This influence saw the duo become the first National, live, dubstep act in the US. The wobbly, buzz-saw bass and heavy backbeat style has become a signature of their sets, as heard on their live recordings and on the 2009 studio release, Fire the Lazers!!! Newer material has the duo co-opting sounds from outside the realm of electronic music with scratchy punk riffs and fuzzy sludge metal bass.

The duo will then set forth on their Spring Tour on March 18th of this year and will crisscross the united states with stops on both coasts including dates in St Louis, Denver, Atlanta, Boston, Washington DC and NYC to name a few.

The perfect match for EOTO's incredible live improvised performances, projection designer known lovingly as "Zebbler" will also join the band with a custom animated projection show for select dates along the Spring 2011 tour. Zebbler was voted one of the top 20 VJ's in DJ magazine, 2007 and is known for delivering an organic visually odyssey with a genuinely live feel.

FAN VIDEO CONTEST
To kick off the extensive tour, EOTO has launched a video contest allowing fans the opportunity to submit their own content for the live HD video show. Of course 3D animations, animations and complex sequences are encouraged for the overall appeal of the live performance. (Submissions: zebbler@zebbler.com)

For more information about EOTO and their forthcoming tour and instructions for submitting your animations to the Spring Tour Projection show, tune into the band's website at www.eotomusic.com

Scattered Trees Premiere Live “A Conversation” Video

Today, Chicago’s Scattered Trees premiered their live video for “A Conversation About Death on New Years Eve” on My Old Kentucky Blog. Click here to watch the video on MOKB or check out the video on YouTube. The track is also available as a free Mp3 download HERE (feel free to post and share). The video for “A Conversation” is a glimpse of Scattered Trees’ live performances that the band honed playing around Chicago. The group has also announced a series of new dates, including a new SXSW showcase on March 18th at The Ghost Room as a part of The NAIL/The MuseBox SXSW Day Party.

The band’s upcoming performances lead up to the release of Scattered Trees’ latest record Sympathy, which will be released on April 5th via Roll Call Records/EMI. The album is a focused, deeply personal collection of songs that finds Scattered Trees experimenting with lush multi-part harmonies, constructing dynamic builds, and exploring the intricacies of love and loss. Opening with “Bury the Floors,” lead singer Nate Eiesland sings “It’s the house that I built you to fall / We started to walk then we stood up to crawl / So bury the floors and burn down the walls / to find ourselves by morning.” Driving rock epics like “Four Days Straight” rub shoulders with melancholic elegies like “Where You Came From.” The album’s title track starts with a stripped-down plaintive mandolin, ultimately fading into a slow-burning orchestral groove. Melting into “Five Minutes,” Scattered Trees continues the build until the track bursts forth. The band rounds out the record with the mournful acoustic closer “On Your Side,” a fitting tribute for a deeply heartfelt and therapeutic album.

Sleepy Rebels Announce New Album, "Yellow Tree"

Powerful Company will be releasing some breath-taking projects in 2011. Jeremy Adelman and Samantha Balassa formed the company. The pair are a true mom & pop musical powerhouse who found great success handling original music production and composition for advertising including national campaigns for VW, Hulu, Jaguar, and JCPenney. Their desires to make music outside the confines of the corporate creative process lead them to establish Powerful Company whose establishing project is the development and marketing of Sleepy Rebels. The New York based trio, collaboration comprised of Jeremy Adelman and siblings Bruce and Erica Driscoll, have designs to re-establish the coolness of positive sentiments and ideals. Yellow Tree is the manifesto that soundtracks their rebellion!

The pastoral images, sun drenched arrangements and sparkling melodies hit you like the first wave of the summer. “Let’s Take the Day Off” is a call to claim some time for yourself and hit the beach with that special someone. It’s instantly memorable hook will incite you to plan your next vacation day! “You Can Make the Sunrise” reminds listeners that everything is possible and that we all have the potential for greatness. The voices on the album are having a romance with the world itself.  The dreamy string arrangement on “We’ll Wake the World Up” underscores the songs narrative of waking up with someone you love just before daybreak. The record closes with “Something”, a soulful romp full of handclaps and horns. For an early listen of album track "You Can Make The Sunrise," download the MP3 HERE.

Powerful Company has quickly transformed from a 2 person team into a modern art factory attracting advertising's (and other industry's) greatest talent of freethinking writers, producers, musicians, directors, editors & designers who all share the same need to create content with artistic statements. Powerful Company has the capability to create through limitless channels including music, video, design, film & art.   In the first months of 2011, they will unveil the first few projects created by this team of talent; they include three films that serve as music videos for Sleepy Rebels. Both surreal in nature, they are intended to establish the band with aesthetic & clever visual imagery & technique.  The first video for the band's song “Magic Girl” reveals the band as eccentric street performers in a remote town in an unknown history & geography.  The second video for the song “Unbelievable” takes the unknown history & geography further and is an unexpected and surreal love story that happens in the most peculiar way.  The third video for dreamy “Looking Glass” finds a woman reflecting on love and looking towards the future as she walks the desolate cobblestone streets of a European town. The final project to be unveiled in the coming months will be a step away from typical band promotional material and will involve a collaboration with the high art world.

"You Can Make The Sunrise" MP3 Available Now!

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour Take Flight

After taking the world by storm with their debut record, FRUIT, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour are back!  Hailing from Copenhagen, the band’s kaleidoscopic pop has grabbed the attention of Heineken who are currently featuring album track “The Golden Age” in a global ad campaign titled “The Entrance.” The success of the catchy commercial, which has received 2.9 million views in less than a month, lead to the making of a brand new original video for “The Golden Age” sponsored by Heineken.

Arbouretum Announce US Winter Tour With Endless Boogie

Arbouretum are thrilled to announce their 2011 Winter tour with fellow indie rock guitar heros, Endless Boogie. They will start out celebrating the release of their epic new LP The Gathering in their hometown of Baltimore, Maryland on February 13th. From there, they will be traveling to the west coast to in support of their highly anticipated new new album. Don't worry east coast, they will be there soon!

The Gathering has garnered early support from Pitchfork, NPR, The Fader, The NME and Stereogum. In November, Arbouretum released new album details and a live video for "When Delivery Comes".  While Pitchfork broke the news of the new LP and premiered the video, both The Fader and NPR picked up the news, posted the new acoustic video, and set the tone for this truly amazing album.
In December, Stereogum premiered their debut single, “Destroying To Save” and raved about its “gorgeous guitar sound and stately vintage psych pacing.” And on the other side of the pond, UK's The NME and premiered the single in their Top 10 Daily Download.
From the truly poetic opener "The White Bird", to the amazing cover of The Highwaymen's "Highwayman", Arbouretum have really delivered a masterpiece of epic proportions. The "Song of the Nile" was a collaboration between Rob Wilson and lead singer/guitarist Dave Heumann; “the song talks about someone on a mythical hero quest who seems to go through all these scenarios quite by accident." The Gathering takes the listener on a journey filled with a plethora of imagery and narrative context lifted from the Gnostic myth of "The Song of The Pearl".

The Gathering, was to a large extent, inspired by The Red Book by Carl Jung, or more specifically, Jung’s pursuit of the inner images that led to the book’s writing. Dave Heumann has long been a fan of experiences that surpass comprehension and describe the numinous. The narrative of “losing one’s way and finding it again” resonated deeply and it was in this context that the songs that comprise The Gathering came to be.  The attention to detail in recording and in writing, in concert with the performance, result in the other-worldly experience of The Gathering.

Dirty Vegas/New Music Video Feat. Jena Malone

Ready to capture the international dance floor once again, Electric Love marks the explosive return of Dirty Vegas. It finds that elusive sweet spot between the slickly polished electronic sounds of their past and a more decidedly rock edge, deftly balancing beats and guitar-led melodies. After touring the world on the strength of two albums (2002’s Dirty Vegas, 2004’s One), music featured in two films (2005’s Goal!, 2006’s The Boys & Girls Guide To Getting Down) and an international dance hit that snagged a Grammy (“Days Go By”), Dirty Vegas (Steve Smith and the non-related Ben Harris and Paul Harris) had parted ways in 2005 to work on individual projects and just to take a breather. Without the pressures of a recording contract or label executives issuing directives, the trio found a fresh kind of positivity when they reformed four years later to craft Electric Love. Dirty Vegas is rocking with an updated sound on their new album, but the fact that they are game-changers is nothing new; just ask anyone in the music business who deals with the worlds of licensing for film and television. The band’s debut single “Days Go By,” originally released in 2001, appeared on a television advertisement for Mitsubishi. The revived single, and its wonderfully magnetic original video, not only catapulted to Grammy success (for Best Dance Recording in 2003), but was a huge benchmark that helped set a whole new model for the marketing of music. The band also won three DanceStar Awards and was even named Electronic Artist of the Year by Playboy.

Dirty Vegas, who now have made available the new music video to their latest single “Electric Love” featuring actress Jena Malone (The Soloist, Into The Wild, Donnie Darko).

Written and produced by photographer James Gooding the “Electric Love” video features Jena as she has never been seen before (pole dancing (!), hanging at a cool muscle car race).

“Electric Love” is James Gooding’s directorial debut as well as the first visual element from Dirty Vegas’ new album—also titled Electric Love—due out April 26 on OM Records.  It is also the first of two videos with Jena that will run concurrently over one larger narrative.

You can learn more about Dirty Vegas at their website.

Alex Winston To Release Debut "Sister Wife"

Alex Winston was given her first guitar when she was 7. When her Dad’s advances to teach music to her older brother fell on deaf ears, she was gladly the runner up. Sitting in the basement for hours practicing chord progressions and listening to songwriters like Carole King and Laura Nyro, she was taught the importance of her home city of Detroit’s musical history.
Classically trained in opera and bred on musical Americana, the beautiful Detroit-native would listen to the rock of Iggy Pop and The Stooges, The MC5 and the legendary Motown artists in equal measures. She opted out of college when she was given the opportunity to tour the US, and to this day still cherishes opening for Chuck Berry in St Louis.
Alex moved to New York earlier in 2010 and her upcoming mini LP, Sister Wife, has been produced by hot young New York producers The Knocks and Londoner Charlie Hugall (Florence and the Machine).
It will be preceded by a video for lead track "Locomotive". The songs on the album tackle a variety of interesting subjects; personal ambivalence, polygamy, the art of writing inebriated and more.
Alex recently released a limited edition run of 7" vinyl of Choice Notes, and sold out her debut live performance (with a seven piece band!) at this year's CMJ festival in New York.

Chamberlin Release Friend-Made Video for "Turn Around"

What could be better than making music you love surrounded by friends and sweeping views of the Green Mountains in Goshen, VT? For the guys in Chamberlin, not much. In advance of their debut album Bitter Blood, the band has made a video with the help of 23 friends that chronicles the making of the album.

The video for the reflective song “Turn Around” opens with a shot of a lonely dirt road that reveals the secluded cabin rehearsal space where Bitter Blood was created. The spot overlooks the Green Mountains of Goshen, VT, an undeveloped piece of land that hasn’t changed since the cabin was built in the late ’70s by one of the band member’s parents. Chamberlin and friends captured the footage for this video on a small point-and-shoot digital cameras, gathering clips of Bitter Blood recording sessions, beautiful landscape shots and live performances. While writing and rehearsing the record, late night liquor-fueled rehearsals, fireworks and bonfires became common practice for the band and ended up in the video.

Bitter Blood was produced by Scott Tournet, guitarist for Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and engineered by Ben Collette. The album captures a unique time for Chamberlin spent in an extraordinarily unique location. It will be released on February 14, 2011 via Roll Call Records/EMI. Chamberlin will be playing a show with Grace Potter & The Nocturnals on December 28 at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT.

Vanity Theft Premieres New Video, Add Dates to Tour

Fresh off releasing their latest EP, Anatomy, on October 26th, Vanity Theft is already busy gearing up for 2011. On top of releasing their upcoming album Get What You Came For digitally on February 1st (with the physical release following on March 1st), the band is also set to hit the road on an extensive North American tour with Hunter Valentine in February/March 2011!

To cap off the year, Vanity Theft premiered their new video for the Houses’ Haunted Tape remix of “Anatomy” today via NickyDigital.com! The band recruited Houses, a Lefse Records artist, to remix the track, who gave it a dark, ambient spin. The video is visually stunning, providing the perfect complement to Houses’ rework of the studio track.

Reminiscent of some of the best old school post riot-grrl indie sounds such as The Runaways, L7, Sleater Kinney, Vanity Theft tears it up live, leaving audiences as sweat-drenched as the band when it’s all over. After attracting the attention of former Disney Channel star Lalaine, who joined the band permanently earlier this year, the band set to work on the Anatomy EP, which dropped in October as a precursor to the upcoming full-length.

Get What You Came For finds the band at their very best: catchy, edgy, and dancey as hell. The album kicks off with the charging track “Trainwreck,” and doesn’t let you go until the final notes of “Missing Teeth” slowly fade out.
