Hurricane Bells Launches PledgeMusic Campaign for Sophomore Album Tales and Tides,

Hurricane Bells today launched a PledgeMusic campaign to support the completion of its sophomore album, Tides and Tales, which will be released this fall via band architect Steve Schiltz's own label, Invisible Brigades.

As with Hurricane Bells' debut album Tonight Is The Ghost, Tides and Tales was recorded, produced, and mixed almost entirely by Schiltz (longtime front man of Longwave) over the past few months. The funds raised through PledgeMusic will directly contribute to the mastering, manufacturing, touring and promotion of the album. For pledging, multiple incentives are offered to fans, including exclusive vinyl, signed CDs and t-shirts, a house concert by the band, and a vintage Gibson guitar, among many others. Fans who pledge will also be able to stream new album track "Let's Go" immediately via the Hurricane Bells PledgeMusic page.

Hurricane Bells has chosen to donate a portion of all campaign proceeds through PledgeMusic to Education Through Music, a nonprofit organization that promotes and supports music instruction in disadvantaged schools. For more information on the Hurricane Bells PledgeMusic campaign and to view a full list of pledge incentives, please visit here. Additional news about the release of Tides and Tales will be announced soon.

Hurricane Bells is playing a stripped-down show in New York tonight at CULTUREfix to celebrate finishing recording Tides and Tales. Doors are at 7pm and tickets are $10. To purchase, visit here.

Earlier this spring, Hurricane Bells digitally released two live albums, Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues Boston and Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues San Diego. The two albums were recorded last fall during the band's tour supporting KT Tunstall. The band released an EP, Down Comes The Rain, last September and Tonight Is The Ghost, in the fall of 2009. The Hurricane Bells song "Monsters," a Tonight Is The Ghost B-side, was featured on The Twilight Saga: New Moon official soundtrack.

Hurricane Bells: Live At The House Of Blues Boston

A second Hurricane Bells' live album, Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues Boston, was released digitally yesterday via Live Nation. Recorded at the Boston stop of the band's tour supporting KT Tunstall this past November, the album features live performances of five tracks from Hurricane Bells' debut album Tonight Is The Ghost, plus B-side "Monsters" from The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack, and new songs "Let's Go" and "The Ghost Of Her." Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues Boston is now available via iTunes. The band's first live album, Hurricane Bells Live At House Of Blues San Diego, was released in late March.

The brainchild of Steve Schiltz, longtime front man of Longwave, Hurricane Bells has released one EP, Down Comes The Rain, in addition to the one full-length album (and its deluxe edition) via Schiltz's own label Invisible Brigades. Schiltz wrote, recorded, played, and produced both releases entirely himself. On Monday night, Down Comes The Rain track "The Deep End" was featured on The CW's hit show Gossip Girl. Hurricane Bells' debut Daytrotter session is now online as well.

Schiltz is currently finishing mixing and mastering Hurricane Bells' sophomore full-length album, which will be released this summer.

MoogFest 2010 Announces DEVO As Recipient Of Moog Innovation Award

The Moog Innovation Award celebrates pioneering artists whose genre-defying work exemplifies the bold, innovative spirit of Bob Moog. Moog Music would like to congratulate DEVO on being the 2010 recipient of The Moog Innovation Award, to be presented to the band during MoogFest 2010 weekend, October 29-31 in Asheville, NC. As part of this award, Moog Music will present DEVO with a very special synthesizer, details of which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Past recipients of the previously titled Moog Award include Keith Emerson, Herb Deutsch, Gershon Kingsley, Jan Hammer and Bernie Worrell.

“MoogFest is about shunning limitations, opening your mind and rejoicing in what’s next. MoogFest is about celebrating the marriage of technology and art, fearlessly embracing the future while respecting the genre-definers of the past. That’s why we created the Moog Innovation Award, to celebrate artists that helped to catapult pop music into the future and commemorate those artists that boldly burst through established norms to pave the way forward. That’s the spirit of Bob Moog and that’s the essence of the Moog Innovation Award.

The first recipient of the Moog Innovation Award is DEVO and we feel that they are a perfect representation of innovative sound-sculpting and genre-defying electronic music. Like Bob Moog, DEVO enthusiastically charted their own course and thus dramatically affected pop culture because of it. Not to mention the fact that they used Moog instruments to create their inimitable sound. MoogFest and the Moog Innovation Award is the perfect way to pay homage to Bob Moog and his adopted hometown of Asheville, NC where he raised his kids, gave birth to some of his greatest inventions and where he re-established the company that bears his name and carries on his legacy, Moog Music.”   – Emmy Parker, Moog Music

DEVO, along with many more internationally renowned performers known for pushing creativity towards new dimensions, will play MoogFest 2010, a three-day festival celebrating the innovative vision of Bob Moog. ROCK THE BELLS 2009 FESTIVAL

bellsGuerilla Union has announced initial details for the 2009 installment of the critically acclaimed festival series ROCK THE BELLS--North America’s only hip-hop festival. Teaming with Budweiser for this year’s ROCK THE BELLS 2009 FESTIVAL SERIES, the festival features such headliners as Nas & Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, The Roots, Big Boi and Common plus many more major hip-hop artists.

The summer trek will kick off June 27 and run on consecutive weekends through August 9 in ten cities across North America including Toronto, Washington D.C., Boston, New York, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Vancouver.  Each stop will feature 25 acts on two stages, a vendor village, surprise performances and more. Exact dates, venues and ticketing information will be unveiled at a later date.  Fans are encouraged to visit www.guerillaunion.com to sign up for their newsletter with up-to-date information on the tour, as well as visiting media partner MySpace Music at www.myspace.com/music.

Anticipated performance highlights of this year’s festival series include: headliners Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley who will perform material off their June release Distant Relatives, promising to deliver the "soundtrack to global change" and they’ll focus on bringing attention to social issues in Africa; The Roots will break away from their “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” residency for some live dates; and, for the first time, KRS-One--known as the purveyor of the Temple of Hip Hop and his activism with the “Stop The Violence” campaign—will join MC Supernatural, Murs and Pete Rock as hosts for RTB, as well as serving as a performer.

Also confirmed for ROCK THE BELLS is the long-awaited reunion of the Irish-influenced hip-hop trio House of Pain consisting of all the original members (Everlast, Danny Boy and DJ Lethal) featuring La Coka Nostra, who will perform material off their early 1990’s releases.  Reflection Eternal is another notable collaboration for Rock the Bells with the union of Talib Kweli and Hi Tek.  The complete list of participating artists for the tour follows below.

“On behalf of Guerilla Union and Myspace.com we are proud to announce the 2009 Rock The Bells Festival Series. Since 2003 we have committed ourselves to producing a world-class hip-hop platform dedicated to conscious, hardcore and independent movements,” states Rock the Bells founder Chang Weisberg of Guerilla Union.  “Our festival has been blessed to host so many historic performances and has been the barometer for hip-hop culture every summer.  This year will be no different.  In fact, with the current state of global affairs, including the recent election of President Obama and the difficulties facing our economy, we found ourselves having to be conscious of all the social and/or economic issues our fans may be dealing with as well as the challenges facing many artists in an ever evolving music industry.  The common DNA of all these perspectives is that there is faith that things are going to change.  Change is the universal hope for all our fans and artists alike.  With that said, who better to headline this year’s Rock The Bells than Nas and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley? Their highly anticipated album Distant Relatives is a collaboration that’s destined to be the soundtrack of people’s hopes and aspirations this summer.  Although this is a monumental combination for hip-hop, it is simply some of the most important music to be released period, regardless of genre.”

Our vision includes plans to take our branded platforms into everything from small clubs and theatres to larger arenas and outdoor music festivals throughout the year."

Weisberg also calls the line-up a dream come true, "Nas and Mos Def have been a part of many historic Rock The Bells moments and I couldn't imagine a better group of artists to launch our European festivals. De La Soul, EPMD, MC Supernatural and Scratch round out a truly amazing bill that also includes the historic reunion of The Pharcyde."

Rock The Bells will host SanDisk's "Wake Up Your Phone" campaign. We are constantly amazed at how flash memory improves the functionality of everyone's cell phone. Our fans are on top of their tech game and we believe that this partnership will improve the live experience in general by incorporating these new technologies into the fan experience. Our festivals are uniquely powered by SanDisk and we thank them for all of their support."
