Dinosaur Bones: 'My Divider' Streets 3/8

Toronto-based Dinosaur Bones are prepping the release of their debut LP, My Divider, on March 8th, 2011 via Dine Alone Records. In advance of the release of the album, the band has made it available for select press. Following the success of their recent Birthright EP, the band received a great deal of accolades in their native Canada. Now comes their return with the next chapter in their story. Dinosaur Bones are giving away the song “Royalty” from the album for free. Click HERE to download.

The ambition of My Divider is easily noticeable. They continue to show their growth as a band with driving tracks like opener “Making Light” and “Sharks in the Sand.” “Highwire Act” and “Point of Pride” show off the band’s penchant for complicated melodies paired with guitar-driven stomps, a la influences like The Walkmen and Chavez. The title track, “My Divider,” closes the album and showcases frontman Ben Fox’s passionate lyrics and assured delivery. As a quintet, Dinosaur Bones’ ranges of influences are widely varied. This yields a sound that is equal parts fuzzed out indie rock and heartfelt emotion, but the cohesion and sensibility are unmistakable.

Dinosaur Bones returned to the studio to record My Divider with Jon Drew (Tokyo Police Club, Fucked Up, Arkells). He also recorded and mixed the Birthright EP.

Having already shared stages with the likes of Man Man, Arkels, Handsome Furs, Crystal Antlers and Plants and Animals, the band have rightly earned their place in the indie pop scene of Toronto. Now they bring their sound stateside. They’ll also be touring Canada in April with Tokyo Police Club and will be playing the main stage at the famed Edgefest in Toronto this year, sharing the bill with A Perfect Circle and Rise Against.

UK's Everything Everything Spring/Summer Tour

Imagine a band who fuse three part harmonies with scalding post-punk guitars; floor-filling bass lines with syncopated rhythms and lyrics about everything from high-school massacres to R&B lotharios musing on their lot in a post-apocalyptic wilderness.

Not easy, is it? But then Everything Everything aren’t here to make life easy. They’re here to challenge every knee-jerk convention of indie rock and dance on the grave of pointless retrogression.

Chances are you’ve come across EE before. Chances are they perplexed, intrigued and if you’ve an ear for something special, they excited you. They first accosted our senses with ‘Suffragette Suffragette’ in Dec 08, followed by ‘Photoshop Handsome’ in May and third single ‘MY KZ, UR BF’ in Oct 09.

Having whipped up interest in all quarters via these low key releases (they’ve acquired fans ranging from Zane Lowe to 6Music’s Marc Riley, played two UK tours- including an advance sold out ICA show as an unsigned band, notched up a top spot on MTV2’s My Space Chart and been tipped by the likes of NME and Times Culture), they signed to Geffen Records in late 2009.

Schoolin is the first single to be taken from their recently completed, David Kosten co-produced debut album (title tbc) due for release in August. It seems set to be the breakthrough debut album of 2010.

Live, the band are poised to head out on the NME Radar tour co-headlining with Hurts followed by the main support slot on Delphic’s forthcoming dates in May before the summer festivals kick in. EE are so far confirmed to play Reading & Leeds, Glastonbury, Latitude (headlining the Lake Stage) and Bestival.

Nicole Henry in NY Nov. 6 then joins the Duke Ellington Orchestra in Tokyo Nov. 18-24

Nicole Henry has won praise from both critics and audiences worldwide for her powerful ability to truly touch and inspire people with her beautiful voice and stunning presence.  She has released three international TOP 10-selling jazz CDs within the past five years and has toured in over ten countries. Jazz Improv writes, “…beautiful, emotionally evocative…a terrific voice and a sensitive way with a lyric.”  It’s with that same sensitivity that Nicole Henry mesmerizes audiences wherever she goes. Uplifting and captivating, her voice embraces jazz, pop and soulful nuances with a spirited ‘joie de vivre.”

Born in Philadelphia, Nicole was raised in the arts haven of Bucks County. After graduating from the University of Miami, Nicole performed throughout Miami singing pop, soul and original music, winning local awards and lending her voice to recordings. In 2004, after falling in love with the melodies, lyrics and freedom of jazz, Nicole released her solo debut CD The Nearness of You to critical acclaim.  In the U.S., Nicole received rave reviews and airplay on national jazz radio, including XM and Sirius Satellite Radio.  In Japan, after climbing to #2 on HMV Japan Jazz Charts, and staying in the TOP 10 for three months HMV Japan named Nicole “Best New Jazz Artist of 2004.” Her follow-up CD, Teach Me Tonight with the Eddie Higgins Trio reached #1 at HMV Japan, and earned her their honor of “Best Vocal Jazz Album of 2005.”

Nicole’s latest CD release, The Very Thought of You reached #7 on the U.S. Billboard Jazz Chart in September 2008, positioned between Diana Krall and Tony Bennett. This romantic CD features love songs, originals and gems from the great American Songbook. It was produced by music veteran Hal Batt (Regina Belle, Jean Carne, Julio Iglesias) with an assist from Executive Creative Producer Don Mizell (co-producer of Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company).

Nicole’s impressionable voice and ever increasing international popularity is also recognized by Delta Airlines. Among a select group of jazz greats like Miles Davis and Cassandra Wilson, Delta featured Nicole’s The Nearness of You CD on their in-flight entertainment programming for sixteen months on all international and U.S. transcontinental flights. With continued support, they are currently featuring The Very Thought of You. In the world of fashion, Nicole’s modern style and grace is considered a perfect match for designer Nicole Miller who exclusively sponsors Nicole’s performance wardrobe out of their South Beach- Miami boutique.

Billboard wrote that “Henry is a jazz vocalist on the cusp of bigger things,” and indeed she continues to be. Once you hear her there is one thing upon which everyone seems to agree, Nicole Henry is simply one of the finest vocalists to emerge this decade.
