deadmau5 to release new album '4x4=12' december 6

Anyone that attended a deadmau5 show in North America this year would have experienced electrifying live renderings of material from his first full length artist album 4x4=12, due out December 6 on Ultra Music.  Performing in front of hundreds of thousands at major festivals and venues from coast to coast including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Electric Daisy Carnival, Austin City Limits and Treasure Island to name a few, electronic music’s most talked-about artist and producer unveiled a wide range of new songs to accompany his roof-raising visual show.

With his revolutionary LED mau5head which flashed space scenes and robot smiley faces, deadmau5--at his full production shows and extended sets at his “unhooked” gigs--highlighted his sets with tracks like “Cthulhu Sleeps,” “Some Cords” and the atmospheric track “Raise Your Weapon” featuring Picture Book singer Greta Svabo Bech.

Also included on 4x4=12 is the deadmau5 vs. Wolfgang Gartner collaboration “Animal Rights,” which Beatport described as “…a huge club record that combines the styles of both producers and has been heavily compared to Daft Punk. We here at Beatport welcome the new direction and give it our thumbs up.”

The album’s next single “Sofi Needs A Ladder,” featuring a vivacious delivery by vocalist Sofi, made its live debut this past March at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami where deadmau5 was joined by Sofi and iconic drummer Tommy Lee in front of 50,000 fans and the track has been the opening piece on his current tour. Ultra Music will make it available on October 31.  Other highlights from the album include “One Trick Pony,” which Sofi also appears on, and the Michael Woods remix of “I Said,” a deadmau5 collaboration with U.K. DJ/producer Chris Lake.

In addition to many of the high-profile performances, 2010 has been a spectacular year thus far for the Toronto-based deadmau5.  He served as the MTV Video Music Award’s House Artist in September where Travie McCoy, Jason Derulo, and Robyn performed never-before-heard mau5-mixes of their current hit singles with him during the show.  He also made guest appearances on hit television shows “Gossip Girl” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” Meanwhile, gaming fans can now find deadmau5 starring as an in-game playable character in Activision Publishing Inc.’s DJ Hero 2. (His smash #1 Billboard single “Ghosts ‘n Stuff”—which appeared on his last mix album For Lack of a Better Name (Ultra Music)—is also included on the game’s soundtrack.)

Recently profiled with a feature in Rolling Stone’s “Hot List” issue, deadmau5 will make his last North American appearances this year with three shows at New York City’s legendary Roseland Ballroom October 28, 29 & 30, the Voodoo Experience in New Orleans October 31 and a New Years Eve show December 31 at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Canada. The first two nights of his Roseland Ballroom ‘trifecta’ shows will feature his powerful festival show supported by a fantastic cast of guests such as Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, Erol Alkan, Afrojack and JDH & Dave P.  The final night, for his “unhooked” show, will feature his hit smash “I Remember” collaborator Kaskade as well as Calvin Harris, Pete Tong and Sleepy & Boo. deadmau5 will bring his full production show to Voodoo and his Edmonton ‘Mau5quarade’ NYE night also featuring guests Skrillex, Showtek, Mike De Rosa, Mikey Wong and Seelo Mondo.

In addition to a full album format, Ultra Music is also making 4x4=12 available via the iTunes Complete My Album program which permits single purchases through the digital retailer to apply for the full album when it releases.  Following “Sofi Needs A Latter” on October 31 will be “Some Chords” on November 7, “Right This Second” on November 14, “Bad Selection” on November 21 and “Raise Your Weapon” on November 28.

The complete track listing for 4x4=12 is:

1. Some Chords

2. Sofi Needs a Ladder

3. City In Florida

4. Bad Selection

5. Animal Rights

6. I Said (Michael Woods Remix)

DEADMAU5 RETURNS W/ 'FOR LACK OF A BETTER NAME'

His name may conjure up images of a lifeless rodent, but the Canadian born self- confessed techno geek otherwise known as DEADMAU5 (pronounced Dead Mouse) punches like a heavyweight.  On September 22, the Grammy-nominated, Juno Award-winning electronic music sensation who has racked up more than 5,000,000 hits on MySpace will unleash his second album for ULTRA Records--titled FOR LACK OF A BETTER NAME--and then set off on a massive fall tour throughout North America.

deadmau5Over the last two years, DEADMAU5 has gone from near obscurity to becoming a superstar as an innovative live performer.  This past spring he sold out two nights at New York City’s Webster Hall and one night at Hollywood, CA’s legendary 4,000- capacity Palladium.  This summer he’ll perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Electric Zoo in New York, Glastonbury in the U.K. and a host of other European festivals. On For Lack Of A Better Name, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2008 debut Random Album Title, DEADMAU5 takes a different turn by incorporating various styles of music into multi-blocks of songs.  The album will include “Ghosts ‘N’ Stuff,” featuring Pendulum’s Rob Swire, and the title track, both of which he’ll perform on tour. Further details about the album will be unveiled at a later date.

DEADMAU5 Spring 2009 Tour

photos by Sam Holloway- for the Grateful Web

Days away from the Grammy Awards where he's nominated in the 'Best Remixed Recording' (non-classical) category for his remix of Morgan Page's "The Longest Road" (Nettwerk), DEADMAU5 has landed two nominations from Canada's Juno Awards. The highly popular electronic music producer and performer has also announced dates for his North American spring tour with Late of the Pier and The Whip.

The Juno Award nominations land him in the "Dance Recording Of The Year" category for his ULTRA EMI single "Move For Me" (Deadmau5 vs. Kaskade) and 2008 debut album release, Random Album Title.  This marks his third and fourth nominations for this award.  Last year, DEADMAU5 was also nominated in the same category for the Play Records tracks "After Hours" (Melleefresh vs. Deadmau5) and "All U Ever Want" (Billy Newton-Davis vs. Deadmau5), with the latter garnering the prize.

Following his massive 'World Tour' in 2008 which took him around the globe, DEADMAU5 will return to North America for several high-profile appearances including SXSW and performance spots on each day of the Ultra Music Festival in Miami March 27 and 28.  He'll also team up with fellow live electronic acts Late of the Pier and The Whip for several key East Coast dates which include stops in Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Boston, Toronto, Chicago and Montreal.  The tour will support his new EP of which details will be announced at a later date.

DEADMAU5 began his meteoric rise by turning out original productions and instant hits, gaining notoriety at digital DJ portal, Beatport. Tracks like "Faxing Berlin" and "Not Exactly" showcased his distinctly innovative sound, which appealed across the plethora of dance genres.  He continues to deliver quality tunes such as "Brazil," "Arguru," "Sometimes Things Get, Whatever," all of which were released on Random Album Title.  Wrote Jim Fusilli of the Wall Street Journal (12/26/08) in his 'Best Of' roundup of 2008  "Deadmau5 is a producer renowned for making electronic dance music, but his Random Album Title (Ultra) reveals the depth of his vision. It's an 80-minute suite that surprises and delights as it blends trance, disco, New Age, Europop and Tangerine Dream-like soundscapes. As if rejecting the notion that his music is only for raves, he lets the tempo sag by adding tender interludes, shifts the mood while keeping up the beat, and alters accent notes on percussion and keyboards so wickedly that you have to stop and listen. Surrender to his wit and surprising musicality and you're transported."
