Pop Montreal News : Free Arcade Fire Show

We are happy to announce a very special BIG SHOW we have planned for the 10th anniversary of the POP Montreal festival. SiriusXM Canada will present and broadcast a free outdoor show by The Arcade Fire on Thursday, September 22nd, at the place des Festivals of Quartier des Spectacles in downtown Montreal. The show is a grand thank you by The Arcade Fire to Montreal, Quebec and Canada and will celebrate an amazing year for the band where they toured the world in support of their outstanding record, The Suburbs, and won awards for album of the year at The Junos, The Brits, and The Grammys. "Our band couldn't exist without Montreal. After having had the chance to tour extensively around the world, we're very excited to finally come home. And to do so the Montreal way, we hoped to play a free outside show, on the very last day of summer as a big 'Thank you' to the beautiful city we love so much", says Régine Chassagne, member of The Arcade Fire, "We're happy to be a part of the 10th anniversary of POP Montreal. And we're proud to play a role in the French release of Tracy Kidder's Mountains Beyond Mountains, (Soulever les montagnes) -a book that has influenced our lives and our careers. Hoping to see you at the show… we're crossing our fingers for great weather." Montreal's own Karkwa, 2010 Polaris Prize winners, will open up the event.

We would like to thank our production partner evenko for helping us mount this amazing concert as well as all our funders, partners and sponsors that are helping make this possible. SiriusXM Canada, Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT), ALDO, McAuslan, La Ville de Montréal, le ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l'Occupation du territoire (MAMROT), SODEC, Tourism Quebec and Tourism Montreal, who all have been integral in putting this event together. We thank them for supporting and continuing to support Canadian Independent Music.

SiriusXM Canada will broadcast the live concert exclusively for Sirius and XM subscribers throughout Canada and the U.S. on Sirius channels 152 and 161 and XM channel 151. This live broadcast is the latest opportunity for SiriusXM subscribers to experience unique and exclusive live musical performances from some of Canada's most influential artists.

The show will take place during the In Town, Without my Car ! event in Montreal organised by the Agence métropolitaine de transport and CAM, an amazing initiative we are pleased to support with a concert that will animate the downtown core. We are pleased to work with the great local company ALDO who, like the band and the festival, is a company that has sprung from Montreal to planet-wide fame. In keeping with the themes of environmental responsibility, ALDO is proud to by an official partner and will provide free eco-responsible water stations for concert attendees.

The show will coincide with the French release of Tracy Kidder's book Mountains Beyond Mountains (Soulever les montagnes), which documents the story of Paul Farmer, one of the founders of Partners In Health. For this show, the band is offering a special deal: as of today the first 100 people to make a 200$ + donation to KANPE will receive 2 passes to the VIP area at the show and a copy of the book. To participate visit kanpe.org. KANPE is a Montreal-based partner organization of Partners In Health dear to the band's heart. KANPE's work seeks to reverse the cycle of poverty in Haiti by encouraging financial independence, and enabling every person to live healthy and with dignity. VIP access for the show can also be acquired by purchasing a Super Pass on POP Montreal's website, where an option to donate to KANPE will be available to all.

BRAIDS "Native Speaker" LP Streaming Now

BRAIDS was formed by four best friends in their last year of High School in Calgary, Alberta. Convincing one another to skip university, they stayed in the garage all year and practiced obsessively, even while their fingers froze during the cold prairie winters. Then, at only 18 years old, they took the bold step of moving across the country together to Montreal, where they began crafting their self recorded/self produced debut album Native Speaker.

Oscillating between density and spaciousness, BRAIDS' sound is not easy to define. The four members construct music which is ample and rolling, perhaps alluding to the landscapes of their youth, but filled with radical texture and startling immediacy, an influence of their more recent surroundings. Delicate layering gives their experimental pop epics just enough breath to playfully explore the depth of ambient melody. Though BRAIDS dives into moments of deep obscurity and sonic experimentation, there remains embedded within the music the hypnosis of an unforgettable pop tune.

Native Speaker, is the accumulation of months of meticulous craft-work to properly capture the band's entrancing live performance. The albums' songs were tested and shaped through numerous performances and lyrical massages, resulting in work that is brilliant in detail and structure. Averaging over 6 minutes and never coming in under 4, the tracks on Native Speaker maintain a deep seeded focus.

BRAIDS has an unusually collaborative dynamic, generating all of their sweeping sounds live in a synergistic maelstrom. Even their name, BRAIDS, evokes a feeling of something continuous and progressive, yet lush and intertwining. It implies the interweaving of all four members' musical ideas, favoring collective and equal input.

On January 18, 2011 BRAIDS is putting forth their debut album Native Speaker, a reflection of coming of age for the four intricately linked musicians. It captures a period of innocence and a period of change, yet comes off as strikingly mature beyond their years. Most importantly, it displays a yearning and striving to break through, an ambitious debut for a young band just getting started.

Red Mass Anounce US Tour Dates | To Play Pop Montreal

The brainchild of Roy Vucino, aka Choyce (CPC Gangbangs, The Daylight Lovers, Les Sexareenos), Red Mass took shape in 2008 following the inevitable implosion of the volatile and legendary CPC Gangbangs. Using Red Mass as a platform, Choyce and his collaborators are intent to pursue the ideals of free thinking, the use of chaos, sex-magik and liberation through art. The ever evolving line-up and contributors to Red Mass consist of musicians from Demon's Claws, Chocolat, Hot Springs, Black Feelings, Sunday Sinners, Vicious / Delicious and Ghost Limbs to name a few.
Through his prolific exploits, Choyce has helped give Montreal's flourishing garage and rock n' roll scenes international recognition. Having fronted CPC Gangbangs, he now also records and tours with long time collaborator Mark Sultan (Sup Pop, In The Red).
Now, Red Mass has opened itself to all with a sincere belief that it can offer young artists and outsiders alike a new haven. With a slew of singles, 10"s, EPs and experimental releases, Red Mass is ready to hit. Their psychedelic space rock 'n' roll and its elements of noise, folk, punk and electronic music is a culmination of 12 years of hard work. The dark poppy hooks, laced with other worldy sound effects, are at once an ode to the past, the music of today, and the shape of rock 'n' roll to come.

This Will Destroy You Heading on Tour

If they haven’t already destroyed you, Texas post-rockers This Will Destroy You, will do just that. After conquering Europe with their cinematic brand of post-rock, the quartet — comprised of with a line-up of guitarists Chris King and Jeremy Galindo, bassist/keys Donovan Jones and drummer Alex Bhore — returned to the U.S. newly invigorated. They went straight to the studio and began recording their much-anticipated album, Tunnel Blanket, with critically acclaimed producer John Congleton (Explosions in the Sky, Modest Mouse, Chairlift). The Congleton sessions found the band taking an evolutionary step forward from their previous release, S/T. The end result, Tunnel Blanket, explores darker, more challenging territories than their previous releases.

Performing new material from Tunnel Blanket, This Will Destroy You is heading on the road this summer. Kicking off in their home state of Texas on May 26th, the band will perform a series of dates on the East Coast and in the South.

Marco Benevento Announces North American Tour Dates

Marco Benevento has announced North American tour dates in support of his forthcoming new album, Between The Needles & Nightfall. The Brooklyn-based pianist leads his trio for the majority of a 29-night headline run that includes a handful of April appearances surrounding the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and May dates on the East Coast and Midwest that are capped off by a hometown show at New York City's Bowery Ballroom.

In June, Benevento works a double shift over three nights in the Northwest playing with both his Trio and Surprise Me Mr. Davis. He'll conclude the month with a string of Canadian jazz festivals, including a solo piano performance at Chapelle historique du Bon Pasteur as part of the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Between The Needles & Nightfall hits stores May 11 on vinyl, CD and download via The Royal Potato Family.  A free mp3 download of the album's lead track, "It Came From You," is available now at marcobenevento.com.
