Johanna & The Dusty Floor Announce First U.S. Tour

Following the release of Johanna and The Dusty Floor’s debut record Northern Lights on Red Valise, Johanna and the Dusty Floor are heading out on a U.S. tour with Brooklyn songwriter Bird Call. Hitting New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia D.C., Austin, and other cities across the country, the tour marks the first U.S. tour for the Brooklyn songwriter. In honor of her first tour, Johanna has made her track “Witch Shoes” available for free download. Download the track HERE and see the “Witch Shoes” video HERE Premiered with Filter Magazine, the site called the track “a light and airy pop song filled with haunting vocals.” Johanna & The Dusty Floor also did a special rendition of her “Heavy Heart” for BreakThru Radio’s Here and There live sessions HERE.

Born in Australia and criss-crossing the globe before ultimately settling down in New York City, Johanna’s spent the last few years writing elegant pop songs that are perfectly paired with her sunny vocals. Studying jazz at the Australian Institute of Music, Johanna’s wide-ranging vocals and lush piano arrangements drift effortlessly atop scenes dealing with distress, demise, and passionate lust. And listening to Northern Lights, it’s easy to hear how Johanna has already earned comparisons Kate Bush and St. Vincent.

The Heavy Pets Hit The Road With Double Live CD

2011 Has been a busy year for the Florida based Heavy Pets. The band hits the road this summer with a double-disc live album taken from their 2010-2011 tour recorded by Charlie Miller of the Grateful Dead fame. Coupled with a full national tour on the horizon, this could be the year of the Heavy Pets – whose last studio effort was hailed one of the top 10 albums of the year by the Huffington Post in 2010.

What’s not to love about the Heavy Pets breezy approach to music? The five piece band seamlessly moves through pop, reggae, rock, rhythm, blues, hip-hop, funk and even masters the open-ended jam styling’s of jazz as if it were their native tongue. Each musician as talented as the next, the players bounce between instruments changing roles as drummer, keys, guitar, and even lead vocals as they make their way through varied arrangements in their diverse and extensive catalog . It comes as no surprise that the Huffington Post named their last self-titled album one of the top 10 of the year; it plays like a Pandora radio station offering a little bit of something for everyone.

Beginning this summer, The Heavy Pets will hit the road with a 14 live tracks called Charlie Miller’s Live Picks featuring two hand selected discs of music chosen from the best moments of their 2010-2011 Illumination tour and includes a selection of popular songs like “So Thank You Music”, “Dew Point” and “Chew”. The summer release will be available on-line for download and for purchase at select festival and theater performances while supplies last.

But it’s not just their chops that set the Heavy Pets apart from other touring outfits. The band has an uncanny ability to write quality songs on a dime. This year will see the Pets releasing a live double disc, an acoustic album and a straightforward electric album which the band has been busy recording this spring. While the expected release date for the two new studio efforts are yet to be announced, rumor has it that each album captures a different face of the band who is known best for their jaw-dropping live shows. The band will be giving away a few of their original songs for free download leading up to the release to whet the appetites of their fans.

For more information about the Heavy Pets and their busy release schedule take a peek at the bands website at www.theheavypets.com and don’t forget to sign up for the mailing list where the next series of free downloads are expected to be leaked in the coming weeks.

Freekbass- Free Album Download Today!

From the mind of Freekbass, comes his 5th full-length release: CONCENTRATE, which continues to expand his horizons and soundscape.
While most kids were listening to Nirvana and Green Day, he connected with the bottom-heavy sounds coming out of the boom boxes like Zapp and Midnight Star. While working in a music shop to pay off his first electric bass he had in lay-away, he began to study the classics of Larry Graham, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, Parliament and Bootsy with a bass in one hand, and an MPC2000 in the other.
Today! The free download for "Concentrate" is now available! | Download "Concentrate" for free here.
Guests on "Concentrate" include: DJ Spooky, Adam Deitch (Pretty Lights/Lettuce), Steve Molitz (Particle, Phil&Friends, Headtronics), Tobotius (Animal Crackers,Science Faxtion), Bootsy Collins, Skeetones, You,You're Awesome, Ian McQuire/Sonic Spank.

EOTO Releases 39 Track Live Album

The cyber-kinetic bass juggernaut EOTO will release their third annual tour compilation K-Turns and U-Turns for download today, May 17th.  Featuring 39 hand-selected live tracks, spanning four consecutive hours of music, the album captures the best performances of the year with crystal clear soundboard quality. The collection features songs from every genre, style, and tempo from their grueling non-stop 2010 tour highlighting the live evolution of a band that has put their unique stamp on the electronic music world. The album, which has been edited to flow from one song to the next, mirrors the feeling of a live EOTO show creating the perfect environment for on-the-fly living room dance parties and sci-fi soundtracks alike.

Since 2008, Michael Travis and Jason Hann of EOTO have taken on a brutal tour schedule packing in nearly 150 national shows a year. Armed with thousands of performance hours, it is no surprise the duo has become masters of a skill very few have yet to imagine. By incorporating real instruments alongside high-tech computer programming and the tools of a traditional DJ, the band has made major headway in a very short time.

Each twist and turn of their national 2010 tour saw the project adding new gadgets and techniques to their performance style, paving the way for the project to literally evolve before the eyes of the fans. And, with each turn of the tour, the record button was on, marking each and every move they made. In turn, the band has selected their favorite moments for their annual K-Turns and U-Turns release. This year, the band has chosen 39 tracks from over 125 recorded and released shows in 2010. The album highlights the absolute best diversity in their growing catalog of music.

Along with the release, fans who purchase the latest rendition will also receive a FREE download of the coveted Portage Theater performance from May 6th 2011.

Here We Go Magic Premiere New Single "Song In Three"

Here We Go Magic have released The January EP on Secretly Canadian this week with some reviews hailing it their best effort to date.

The second single "Song In Three" is available for download via Pitchfork and you can hear the entire EP streaming on Spinner right now.

The EP's six tracks complete the songwriting cycle that Here We Go Magic began in an upstate New York farm house upon the commencement of their critically-acclaimed sophomore LP Pigeons (2010, Secretly Canadian). The band's signature mix of swirling guitars, krautrock grooves, pulsing synths, and hushed chants provide a foundation for these otherworldly songs.

"Hands in the Sky" (download link below) is a ghostly number that showcases vocalist Luke Temple's lyrical pedigree, his words pushed forward in lockstep with a band heaven-bent on window dressing your headspace like a cosmos for the 20 minutes they've got your attention. At the center of the EP lies what Here We Go Magic does best, a dichotomy between eerie folk sounds and driving art rock. The jangly back-and-forth between the guitars of Michael Bloch and Temple form the backbone to "Song In Three" (download link below), the yin to Pigeons standout "Collector"'s yang. Cyclical in its instrumentation and lyrics, the spooky lullaby "Hollywood" climaxes with a mantra that wouldn't have been out of place on the band's 2009 self-titled release.

The January EP was produced by Jen Turner and recorded live to analog tape in a band-built living room studio.

Here We Go Magic are currently on tour with Aroara and will soon be joined by Cavemen for the remainder of the dates.

Halie Loren Releases "In Time (Hope for Healing)" to Benefit Japan Relief Fund

In many countries, the name Halie Loren is not well known.  However, in Japan, the talented Jazz/Pop singer's name is as well known and her CDs and concert tickets sell as well as Norah Jones and other popular singers in similar genres.

The events in Japan over the last few weeks have affected everyone around the world, including Loren. She has turned energies and her talent and popularity in Japan to raise money with an original song called ‘In Time (Hope for Healing)’, that in just a few days has become a major hit.  When asked about the song, Loren said, "I wrote 'In Time (Hope for Healing)' about rising above hardship and sadness, rebuilding our lives, and being even better for all we come through.  I dedicate it to Japan's people, in solidarity with them during their healing process, and in belief that they can once again feel safe and whole."

‘In Time (Hope for Healing)’, which is currently only available on Amazon.JP as a download, donates all money directly to Red Cross Japan and is already the most popular download on the site after only a few days.  Northwest-based Loren has visited Japan three times in the last seven months, most recently playing in support of her latest CD release ‘After Dark’ to sold-out audiences at the Cotton Club and the Blue Note.  She records in Japan for JVC/Victor and in the United States for White Moon Productions distributed by Burnside Distribution.  More information on Halie Loren, including an update on additional websites carrying the song, can be found at www.halieloren.com or by following her on Facebook or Twitter.

CHRISTY & EMILY: TALK NORMAL

For Christy & Emily, these songs are a preview of their newer sound with bass (Pete Kerlin) and drums (Kristin Mueller). Later in the spring of 2011, Christy & Emily will be heading to the Faust Studio in southern Germany to record a new full-length album with this quartet. They are happy with the way the band allows them to expand sonically. The extra track on the digital download card is a song by Oakley Hall, called “Endtime Evangelist,” off of their first self-titled album on Bulb (four years before they signed to Merge). This song has been strong on Emily's mind for half a decade, only coming out as a cover that the duo has been performing live in the last year.
Talk Normal's "Hurricane" is a soaring narrative piece. Lead by drummer Andrya Ambro's melodic lead vocal and buffeted by guitarist Sarah Register's harmonies, "Hurricane" is a sing-a-long story told with humility, grace & pleasing cacophony. Conceptual references range from U.S. Girls to Meredith Monk to Tears For Fears to The Velvet Underground – yet the sound is all their own, with an ebbing structure that carries the imagination through a manic ocean of soundscapes, wildly complex and still simple enough to be howled at the moon.
