GIANT MAXIMUS NYE PARTY IN LA

Mickey Avalon - photos by Sam Holloway- for the Grateful Web

Already a distinguished staple in Los Angeles nightlife, GIANT MAXIMUS returns to its Francisco Street location for the third consecutive year for what will be the most anticipated and largest American 21+ New Year's Eve bash this holiday season.  As in years past, GIANT MAXIMUS will feature the best in nightlife music artists including top-tier international DJs and alternative performers set under European 'cirque' style big tops with a climate-controlled capacity of 10,000 partygoers.  This year the event is presented by KCRW and sponsored by MySpace Music and Metromix.

To ring in 2009, GIANT MAXIMUS will present three ear-blasting areas: the GIANT Stage featuring DJ sets by MOBY, BENNY BENASSI and DIRTY SOUTH plus a special early performance by PAUL OAKENFOLD; the DEEP Stage with MARK FARINA and MARQUES WYATT; and from the promoters of the HARD festivals, the premiere of the DESTRUCTO Stage hosting MICKEY AVALON, DIRT NASTY, TITTSWORTH, DESTRUCTO, FRANKI CHAN, PAPARAZZI, ANDRE LEGACY and BEARDO.

Situated on a seven-acre private site smack in the heart of downtown Los Angeles with the soaring skyscrapers towering above, GIANT MAXIMUS also offers the 'Monster Midway,' presented by Monster Energy with high-flying acrobatics, psychedelic circus antics, amusements, games, carnival rides and, of course, the iconic GIANT Ferris wheel.  The celebration begins at 7:00 pm and lasts until 4:00 am.

Tickets for GIANT MAXIMUS are available now exclusively through www.giantclub.com.  Metromix VIP tickets are also available and include a private express entrance, access to all Metromix VIP Lounges and Premium Open Bar all night, plus other magnificent perks. For the first time ever, Private VIP Cabanas are also available at GIANT MAXIMUS exclusively for VIP Ticket Holders flanking the GIANT Stage with a direct view throughout the entire area.

As you undoubtedly remember, DSO is now joined on the road by longtime Grateful Dead sound engineer Dan Healy, who mixed the Dead from 1966 - 1994. In between twiddling knobs and adjusting levels with uncanny perfection Dan has talked about his experiences both with the Dead and Dark Star Orchestra. Read them for yourself here and here.

Hailing from the San Francisco Bay area, the guys of Hot Buttered Rum grew up on the trails, in the mountains, and on the slopes.  Their ties with nature have only grown and as a group, the band has dedicated much time and energy to reducing their carbon footprint and promoting alternative fuel sources.  As a heavily touring band, Hot Buttered Rum had to face the tough reality of how a national tour can affect the environment and counter it with a positive change.  In response, the band helped to promote the biofuel renaissance, touring the country on recycled vegetable oil and biodiesel as early as 2003.  Band members have participated in numerous Renewable Energy and Biofuel conferences, as well as sitting on discussion panels at such renowned music festivals as Bonnaroo and High Sierra.  Highlighted in the November/December 2005 issue of E: Environmental Magazine, Hot Buttered Rum is commended for trying to "leave an impact on its fans, and not solely on the road that passes beneath its bus tires as it travels from coast to coast".  For more information on Hot Buttered Rum and their greening efforts, visit the band's website.

The widespread appeal of Hot Buttered Rum's music stems not only from the band's musical versatility and prolific songwriting, but also from the magnetic chemistry the group creates onstage together.  It is this chemistry that is propelling the band to ever greater success. The band has performed at festivals as diverse as the Newport Folk Festival, Bonnaroo, Grey Fox, High Sierra and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and has shared the stage with such artists as Phil Lesh, Bela Fleck, Ben Harper, Chris Thile, Mike Marshall and Peter Rowan, the last two of whom worked with the band on its critically-acclaimed studio release, Well-Oiled Machine.
