Meat Puppets continue to add tour dates supporting "Lollipop"

Legendary rock trio the Meat Puppets continue to tour supporting their 13th LP, Lollipop, out now on Megaforce Records. After being invited to this years' Animal Collective-curated All Tomorrow's Parties to perform Up on The Sun, the Meat Puppets will re-release their seminal album on vinyl, available in stores September 13.
For the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's NevermindSPIN invited the Meat Puppets to contribute an interpretation of one of the iconic tracks and the band chose to tackle "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Listen to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and read what Curt Kirkwood had to say about the recording at SPIN.com.
Check out the Pitchfork-premiered trippy video for "Orange," album art and download "Damn Thing" off the new LP. Produced by band leader Curt Kirwood, and recorded at Spoon's HiFi Studio in Austin, Lollipop features the indelible Kirkwood brothers back at work and back at play on 12 powerful new original cuts.

ANR Release Free MP3 for Brand New Track, "New Armor"

This morning, Miami’s psychedelic synth-pop duo ANR released the brand new track “New Armor.”  The song is the latest example of the group’s constant evolution as well as their prolific songwriting.  It begins with a lone acoustic guitar before falsetto vocals and lush, sparkling keyboards join the mix.  ANR’s reverb-laden vocals are anthemic and continue in the introspective, earnest direction of the previously released tracks from Stay Kids Deluxe Edition, their forthcoming album out September 13th on 10k Islands.

ANR consists of merely two members – Brian Robertson (Keys, Vocals) and Michael-John Hanock (Vocals, Drums) – but they create a powerful sound filled with layered melodies and bountiful hooks.  It has already earned the duo praise from RCRD LBL, The Fader, MTV.com, and Nylon, among others, and have landed them shows with bands like Animal Collective, Neon Indian, No Age, and Fucked Up.  The band kicks off their North American tour later this month.

BAND OF SKULLS ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES

Southhampton, UK trio Band of Skulls are taking some time out from finishing up their second album to play select tour dates in North America. They will be performing new songs at these shows along with favorites from their debut album album 'Baby Darling Doll Face Honey.'

After spending two years touring in support of their debut album which was universally embraced by the U.S. press including SPIN (Best of Coachella), Rolling Stone (Best of SXSW) and Entertainment Weekly (Your Next Favorite Band) and culminated with a sold-out show at the Forum in London in late 2010, the band retreated to a studio in Norfolk UK to begin writing the follow-up. They returned to their home studio in Southampton to start the recording which they are now completing in Wales at Rockfield Studios. The album is produced by Ian Davenport (Supergrass, Badly Drawn Boy) and will be mixed by Nick Launay (Grinderman, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire) and is scheduled for release in 2012. The album will be preceded by a single and EP released in late 2011.

Caveman's 'CoCo Beware' Streets 9/13

After months of anticipation, Caveman is pleased to announce the digital release of their debut album CoCo Beware on September 13th, followed by the physical CD and vinyl release on November 15th. Exploding out of the New York scene over the last few months, the band has decided to get this hot off the presses album out as soon as possible via a digital self-release. The fans wanted it, so the fans get it — a straight-ahead ethos for a band that’s about the music FIRST.

In honor of the New York five-piece’s first release, the band has made “Old Friend” available as a free download, premiering the track with Fader Magazine this morning. Click HERE to hear the track. Recorded and produced by Nick Stumpf (French Kicks), CoCo Beware showcases the dreamy chamber pop and multi-part harmonies that have been turning heads at the band’s live shows for the better part of a year. Leading up to the release of their debut, Caveman will also be heading out on tour with The War On Drugs, hitting the east coast, midwest and Canada before returning to New York to celebrate their album release at the Mercury Lounge on Thursday, September 15th.

For Caveman, the last year and half have been a whirlwind. Formed in New York back in January of 2010, the band has gone from relative unknowns to opening for Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, White Rabbits, Here We Go Magic, Cursive, Wye Oak and Yuck in a little under a year. Listening to CoCo Beware, it’s easy to see why the band has garnered so much attention in such a short period of time. Opening with “A Country’s King of Dreams,” the band explores honey-sweet, country-tinged vocal melodies over tribal drumming. “My Time” is a slow-building pop gem, with lead singer Matthew Iwanusa’s vocals weaving in and out of band’s backing vocals. Caveman’s lush four-part harmonies, spaced-out guitars, and inventive percussion come together perfectly on the tracks “Easy Water” and “My Room.

Morning Teleportation on Letterman Wed | 5/4/11

Morning Teleportation will bring their roller coaster of tumultuous rock 'n' roll and deep-space pickin' 'n' grinnin to The Late Show With David Letterman on Wednesday, May 4th, marking the band's network television debut. The band will perform the title track off of their debut album, "Expanding Anyway" which was recently released on Glacial Pace Recordings and was produced by label owner Isaac Brock along with Clay Jones.

The album has received rave reviews from the NY Times to SPIN. "Yelping and shouting like a genuine mental case, frontman Tiger Merritt rides a joyously chaotic wave on [the band's] debut," writes Jon Young in SPIN's album review, featured in their April issue. "Morning Teleportation possess their own wacky identity, lurching from avant-garde mischief to pop operatics to folk sweetness." Curious fans can head on over to SPIN.com for an exclusive full album listen by clicking here

This week also marks the band's debut at MTVU as part of their new artists show "The Freshmen." The show spotlights emerging artists on air and online, with the chance for one of the videos to get an automatic add into rotation on the channel the following week. Fans can vote for Morning Teleportation's video for "Expanding Anyway" by clicking all this week. Voting will end on Friday May 6th at 2:00pm EST.

The video for "Expanding Anyway" is a modern psychedilc experience created by Phantasmic, a small and unique visual duo consisting of Tripp and Jenna Watt. Phantasmic hand-crafted every aspect of the project which began with an original list of over 170 different ideas that resulted in 31 final scenes, ranging from watercolor paintings to Crayola marker creatures, acting in tights to choreographed dance numbers.  You can check out the Making Of Video as well the director's cut of the final video.

Morning Teleportation takes their critically acclaimed live show back out on the road on May 18th and will continue to tour throughout the summer. NPR recently selected the band as a must-see in their SXSW preview noting, "It's got this great burst of energy in the vocals, real cacophonous psychedelia." While Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote about the band's live show last year saying, "Morning Teleportation, from Portland, Ore., crammed ideas into songs that leaped impatiently, and gleefully, from style to style." Pareles also recently reviewed the band's debut album noting, "Euphoria and transformation run through Morning Teleportation's debut album, "Expanding Anyway" (Glacial Pace), which puts neat, strategic structure behind its giddy psychedelic cheer."

Here We Go Magic To Be Joined By Aroara

Here We Go Magic are happy to announce both Aroara and Caveman will be joining them on their upcoming North American Tour.
Aroara is a new project featuring Andrew from Broken Social Scene, along with vocalist Ariel Engle, a frequent collaborator in the BSS live show. Their shows with HWGM mark their premiere as a live act. Andrew is also a member of Apostle of Hustle. HWGM toured both Europe and Canada with Broken Social Scene in 2010.
The tour is in support of The January EP. The EP's six tracks complete the songwriting cycle that Here We Go Magic began in an upstate New York farm house upon the commencement of their critically-acclaimed sophomore LP Pigeons (2010, Secretly Canadian). The band's signature mix of swirling guitars, krautrock grooves, pulsing synths, and hushed chants provide a foundation for these otherworldly songs.
"Hands in the Sky" is a ghostly number that showcases vocalist Luke Temple's lyrical pedigree, his words pushed forward in lockstep with a band heaven-bent on window dressing your headspace like a cosmos for the 20 minutes they've got your attention. At the center of the EP lies what Here We Go Magic does best, a dichotomy between eerie folk sounds and driving art rock. The jangly back-and-forth between the guitars of Michael Bloch and Temple form the backbone to "Song In Three," the yin to Pigeons standout "Collector"'s yang. Cyclical in its instrumentation and lyrics, the spooky lullaby "Hollywood" climaxes with a mantra that wouldn't have been out of place on the band's 2009 self-titled release.
The January EP was produced by Jen Turner and recorded live to analog tape in a band-built living room studio.
Pre-order now available through the Secretly Canadian website, all pre-orders also come with a download card for the EP.

The Shivers Heading Out on Tour This Spring!

On May 10th, The Shivers will return with their latest record More, set for release on Silence Breaks. Recorded in Manchester, UK early last year, the album finds Queens, NY songwriters Keith Zarriello and Jo Schornikow exploring everything from shambly garage rock to melancholic barroom ballads. In honor of the band’s new album, the band has made “Used to Be” available for free download. Check out the track HERE. The band will also be heading out on a west coast tour starting in early May that will be capped off with a New York homecoming at Mercury Lounge on May 29th. See full tour dates below.
Using every dime they’d saved, Zarriello and Schornikow traveled to Manchester in Spring of 2010 to record their latest record in an entirely analog studio. Over five days, the two worked tirelessly, fleshing out the tracks they had worked on in the small church in Queens where the band practices. The end result was More, an album that runs the gamut of American rock ’n’ roll, delving into everything from gritty Lou-Reed-inspired rock to the swaggering soul of Nina Simone. Starting with the brief piano elegy “My Mouth is for Love,” More segues quickly into “Irrational Love,” a bouncy organ-driven rock track with a chorus that sounds like it was plucked from 1966. The album teeters between the upbeat pop of tracks like “Used to Be” and “I Want You Back” to the heartsick, Leonard-Cohen-inspired ballads like “Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars” and “Love Is In The Air.” The album closes with the record’s title track “More,” a slow-building confessional that serves the record’s triumphant last call. It’s an apt end for a record that sounds like an apologetic love note, written on barroom cocktail napkin.
Hailing from Queens, NY, Keith Zarriello began writing music as The Shivers started back in 2001 and has spent the last ten years mining the depths of American rock, developing a songwriting style that ranges from earnest, heartbroken ballads to ’60s garage rock revival. In 2004, Zarrellio released Charades, which featured the much lauded track “Beauty,” which earned universal praise from the likes of Pitchfork and The Guardian, and would end up being named Gorilla Vs Bear’s thirteenth best song of the decade. The album also caught the ear of an Australian, classically-trained church organist named Jo Schornikow, who joined the band as a full-time member that year. Adding counterpoint of beauty with her piano and keyboard flutters, The Shivers spent the next six years touring aggressively in the U.S. and the U.K., and releasing a grand total of four albums, leading up to the ultimate release of More this year.

French Horn Rebellion Release Debut LP & Tour

French Horn Rebellion (Robert and David Perlick-Molinari) kick off 2011 by announcing the US self-release of their debut album The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion on April 19th digitally and May 24th physically (Once Upon A Time Records) and a 27 date North American tour supporting French electro pop outfit Yelle starting 17th April.

Written, produced and mixed by Robert and David, The Infinite Music… is a debut album that warps the fabric of dance, electro, rock and funk and may just turn out to be a contender for this year’s most ambitious, multi-faceted and engaging debut album. Crucially, the album also follows an intergalactic narrative that tracks the physical and emotional journey of an unknown French Horn player. “There is a story running through the album, it’s about the Universe. We’re pretty clear on what the story is, but what you take away from it may be something entirely different,” says David.

The album’s artwork features the sculptures of Portland based artist Meredith Dittmar (www.corporatepig.com) who the band contacted after finding her work on the Internet. Dittmar has exhibited in New York and as far afield as, Mexico City and Istanbul.

On the back of just three EP’s to date, these two unassuming brothers, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have already toured and played with the likes of Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, The Drums, Cut Copy and SebastiAn and have been tipped by everyone from Q Magazine, The Guardian, Time Out and French music bible Les Inrockuptibles to hometown publications such as The New York Times and NY Daily News.

The Brooklyn-based duo already had an illustrious pedigree; David produced MGMT's indie release, Time to Pretend EP for New York indie Cantora Records, and with previous single “Up All Night” they scored a Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1 and an opening slot on the influential Kitsuné Maison compilation series; a big deal for a virtual unknown. The band have also remixed the likes of MEN, Two Door Cinema Club, OMD and Alex Winston, the later resulting in JPlatt of New York producers du jour The Knocks madly tweeting “its like the hottest thing I’ve ever heard”!

Following packed out NYC performances at CMJ, the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival and in support to MNDR at the launch of new Neon Gold / Popjustice party POPSHOP, FHR will visit Europe in March for a handful of shows before heading home to play SXSW and then on to Asia for shows in Hong Kong (w/ MGMT), China, Korea and Japan. Their 27 date North American tour supporting Yelle kicks off in Phoenix on 17th April.]

Here We Go Magic Announce North American Spring Tour

Here We Go Magic are hitting the road once again bringing their electric show to audiences across the US. They'll be joined by Brooklyn cohorts Cavemen in the lead up to their debut Coachella performance.

This is a band with a live show like none other, once you've seen them there is no going back.

The tour is in support of The January EP. The EP's six tracks complete the songwriting cycle that Here We Go Magic began in an upstate New York farm house upon the commencement of their critically-acclaimed sophomore LP Pigeons (2010, Secretly Canadian). LATEST BRITISH EXPORT LEE MACDOUGALL TO HIT THE ROAD IN U.S.

British singer-songwriter Lee MacDougall is the latest artist to emerge from open mic night circuit in London that has become a hotbed for new acoustic artists. He is slowly building an international fan base due to his knack for coupling a strong lyrical narrative with a memorable melody, and on the strength of his songwriting, he has earned support slots opening for artists such as Train, Starsailor, Paolo Nutini, The Feeling, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison. To capitalize on the growing buzz, he will embark on his first U.S. tour, beginning this week, which will include his SxSW debut. He will appear at the Larimer Lounge in Denver on Thursday, March 24.

MacDougall’s self-produced CD of original material called IF WALLS COULD TALK will be available to coincide with his U.S. dates. Additionally, he has three songs available for download via iTunes, including a version of his tune “She” that was produced by Jim Lowe (Stereophonics, Taylor Swift, Charlatans).
