Lee MacDougall "If Walls Could Talk" Tour Starts February 25th

British singer-songwriter-guitarist Lee MacDougall, the newest artist to emerge out of London's burgeoning acoustic movement, is set for his first tour of the U.S. beginning February 25 in New York City.  The tour will criss-corss the country over a two-month period and will include MacDougall's debut appearance at the SxSW Festival in Austin in March.

MacDougall is releasing an 11-song self-produced CD called IF WALLS COULD TALK to coincide with the tour.  The CD includes the standout tracks "The Star Hotel" and "Joanna," among others.  BBC Radio 6 host Tom Robinson says of MacDougall: "You absolutely cannot fake that kind of sincerity and passion, and particularly the yearning quality to his vocals."

Additionally, noted producer Jim Lowe (who has worked with the Stereophonics, Taylor Swift and the Charlatans, among others) has produced several tracks with Lee, including the version of "She" that is currently available from iTunes as part of a three-song EP he released last summer.  An acoustic rendition of the song produced by Lee appears on IF WALLS COULD TALK.

Originally from the fishing town of Grimsby in the north of England, MacDougall has been performing on the open mic night circuit in London that has spawned new acoustic English artists in the last two years.  His ability to couple a strong lyrical narrative with a memorable melody has enabled him to establish an international fan base that expanded when his music was embraced by the community of fans of the Twilight films. But it is the strength of his songwriting that has earned him UK industry recognition and support slots with artists such as Train, Starsailor, Paolo Nutini, The Feeling, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.  Word Magazine review editor Kate Mossman says:  "He's amazing and very confident. Like Freddie Mercury meets Rufus Wainwright.  He's going to go a long way."

For his U.S. tour dates, he will be accompanied by Rob Hargreaves on guitar and backing vocals.

Two Fresh Announces 2011 'Air Mail' Tour

Having recently closed a blockbuster holiday tour, which culminated with a New Year’s Eve dance party in Dallas, TX that saw 5k+ attend in support of the rapidly growing duo, Two Fresh is excited to announce the Air Mail Tour – a tour that will see the group hit the road with exciting, top notch support acts in anticipation of their forthcoming, full length album Air Mail. A full date list appears below. Ticketing and more information for all shows is available here.

Two Fresh kicks off the Air Mail Tour in the familiar stomping grounds of the Southeast and heads deep into the South, before winding up the East coast with parties in Knoxville, Athens, Tuscaloosa, Nashville, Austin, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, and Brooklyn. The tour will wrap with a Windy City rager in Chicago at the Bottom Lounge. Additional date announcements are expected from the trio, as the album release draws closer.

The tour will feature two of Brooklyn’s finest up and coming acts, Body Language and Mux Mool. Body Language’s original music was born from weekly dance party remixes crafted by Grant Wheeler and Matt Young, and are graced by the soul stylings of Ms. Angelica Bess. Mux Mool’s homespun electro hip-hop is the product of an introverted mind, an extroverted imagination, and a bottomless cultural appetite.

Having spent the last 18 months touring and working with different musicians and producers all over the country, Two Fresh is supporting the release of their forthcoming album, Air Mail, scheduled for release February 2011 on Elm & Oak Records/1320 Records. The ambitious and hungry group have planned 2 other releases for the later part of 2011. Having gained new, valuable perspective from recent tours and collaborations, Air Mail shows just how much the group has learned and evolved since their last release.

Two Fresh consists of an inseparable pair of twin producers, Sherwyn and Kendrick Nichols, who have been making beats and playing music together since they were fifteen years old. Now, about to be 22, the twins are armed with a forward-thinking perspective. As always, Two Fresh will tour with Colby Buckler on drums.

Prussia Announce East Coast Tour Dates

Prussia's music is energetic, poppy- and melodious.  You feel like dancing, though there’s no way in hell you would describe this as dance music. Waltzes, African drum beats, acapella breakdowns, and the gentle ringing of sleigh bells all fit into their unique arrangements naturally.
The band formed on the first day of 2007, practicing in the A. C. Rich, a DIY venue in Pontiac, Michigan.  Prussia later became connected with the legendary Scrummage University, a DIY space in Detroit that is interconnected with other underground venues across the country.
Fiery Furnaces, Quasi, Dr. Dog, Black Heart Procession, Thunderbirds are now, Islands, Beach House, tUnE-YaRdS, and Dent May are among the many well-known bands that Prussia has played with. The band are currently finishing their highly-anticipated new full-length album, Poor English.  Swaggering drum loops, intricate guitar compositions, and buttery vocal harmonies all support the sweet nasal crooning of singer Ryan Spencer on the new album.  Stories of suicide, misogyny, sexual vacancy, and the crippling ennui of illusory love all weave in and out of catchy pop songs.  Lyrically, it’s T.S. Eliot’s drunken scribbling on a bathroom wall.
While mixing Poor English, the band also created Prussia Goes to the Disco, a mixtape of all new electronic Prussia songs.  The simultaneous creation of two aesthetically different, but highly listenable releases proves that this is an unpredictable band that is going to do exactly what they want to do and that this is definitely for the best.

Prussia will be releasing a new EP, Four For Attention, on January 11, 2011.

Asobi Seksu Announce 2011 North American Winter Tour

Polyvinyl recording artist Asobi Seksu has announced the release of their highly anticipated 4th album, Fluorescence, available February 14th in UK/Europe and 15th in North America on CD, LP (Gatefold Jacket, 180 gram pink vinyl limited edition of 1,500) and digital formats.  The album features the lead single, "Trails", which is available now as an MP3 download. There will also be a video for the track in early 2011.  The album features artwork from acclaimed designer Vaughan Oliver (Cocteau Twins, Pixies).  The album is available for pre-order now on the Polyvinyl website at www.polyvinylrecords.com/fluorescence.

The signs in Chris Zane’s studio couldn’t have been any clearer: “Don’t Overthink It” and one simple word—“BOLD.”

Or as Asobi Seksu guitarist/singer James Hanna puts it, “This time, our agenda was to not have one at all; to be mellow about the entire process instead of obsessing over everything.”

Maybe mellow isn’t the right word, unless he’s comparing the band’s fourth proper full-length (Fluorescence) to a coiled-up cobra or unconscious crocodile— temperamental types that are one false move away from striking. After all, “Coming Up” sets the scene by plowing into beehive-like synth lines and warp speed washes of dream-pop that leave you wondering just what the hell is going on.

Things don’t let up on “Trails” either, as singer/keyboardist Yuki Chikudate sets her immaculate melodies against a barrage of battery-powered chords. Catchy and chaotic to the core, the sky-scraping song pays homage to the pitch-perfect songwriting of the ‘60s by chartering a yellow submarine to the moon.

And when the Brooklyn-based quartet (rounded out by bassist Billy Pavone and drummer Larry Gorman) finally hits the ground, their color-saturated soundscapes don’t get dull or cold. They get even brighter, as Fluorescence’s many shades shift with each passing song. That includes everything from the expansive/erratic—and yet, oh-so- poppy—prog movements of “Leave the Drummer Out There” to the weightless balladry of “Ocean,” a track that channels its title with swollen synths and beats that bob and weave through the murkiest waters around.

“James likes to get a lot more abstract with the music,” says Chikudate, “So Chris (Asobi Seksu’s longtime producer) will often try and reign him in.”

“I like to see how far we can take a song before pulling back a bit,” explains Hanna. “Like I’ll say that 100 vocal tracks would sound great in a spot where we only need 40.”

And since Asobi Seksu have spent the past decade refining their bombastic but beautiful blend of hailstorm hooks and fog-shrouded 4AD-isms (including last year’s special acoustic album, Rewolf), they knew exactly what to do with all of that restlessness: embrace it.

Seasoned veterans of Chicago's blues scene Lubriphonic is a horn-infused, funk and soul stew.  The Gig Is On is their new CD which is due out later this fall and features a vintage sound steeped in soulful horn melodies that balance the searing guitar and pulsing rhythm section. To give the music community a ‘taster spoon’ of what Lubriphonic is all about, the band is offering the CD for free download via their websiteLubriphonic's funkier side shows up large with guest keyboardist Ivan Neville and his New Orleans treatment on four CD tracks. Lubriphonic is the brainchild of guitarist Giles Corey and drummer Rick King which began as a residency at Chicago’s legendary Checkerboard Lounge, where they recruited some of the best blues, funk, and rock musicians in the city for improvisational live sessions in which the kinetic energy that make a band were initiated.  The evolution from performing as sidemen for the city’s most legendary blues stars such as Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Koko Taylor into an original group came from the hunger of each musician to develop an intense and simmering sound.

That sound continues as Lubriphonic’s nationwide tour threads down the West Coast this week with their CD Release Party coming up in Chicago next week. Music fans of all ages and backgrounds will find something familiar and enjoyable about Lubriphonic and with no strings attached, everyone can download a full copy of their new studio CD, The Gig Is On, here.

Surprise Me Mr. Davis | Summer Dates & 'Bridge Sessions' Segment

Surprise Me Mr. Davis have announced a handful of summer tour dates. The five piece rock band, featuring Nathan Moore, Brad Barr, Marco Benevento, Marc Friedman and Andrew Barr, will come together from their homes in Montreal, Brooklyn and the Shenandoah Valley for ten shows. They'll be supporting their latest EP release, That Man Eats Morning For Breakfast.

The Hidden Track blog noted in a recent live review: "Someone mentioned that it felt like seeing The Band in some club in 1970, and that seemed just about right--there is such skillful songsmithing, such virtuosity in performance, such joy and such a tortured voice in the quintet. The music glows and rolls and speaks as the greatest Americana does of all the back roads and small towns and small rooms in big cities, all the confused relationships, unrequited love and brotherly love. I can't help thinking, whenever Nathan Moore begins some political rant bookended by some semi-comical, semi-forlorn personal ramble, that this is what Walt Whitman would be doing if he were still alive." Jambase stated: "Surprise Me Mr. Davis needs to be recognized as one of the top bands in the live music scene; an appointment that is far overdue and richly deserved."

Upcoming Surprise Me Mr. Davis tour dates are:

June 24 | Tractor Tavern | Seattle, WA (w/ Marco Benevento Trio)
June 25 | Doug Fir Lounge | Portland, OR (w/ Marco Benevento Trio)
June 26 | Axe & Fiddle | Cottage Grove, OR (w/ Marco Benevento Trio)
July 1 | High Sierra | Quincy, CA
July 3 | High Sierra | Quincy, CA
July 6 | Cafe Du Nord | San Francisco, CA
July 7 | Moe's Alley | Santa Cruz, CA
August 19 | Fox Theater | Boulder, CO
August 20 | Three 20 South | Breckenridge, CO
August 21 | Newhoma Music Festival | Florissant, CO

Watch Surprise Me Mr. Davis perform an a-capella rendition the Nathan Moore song "Tombstone" on the Williamsburg Bridge shortly before they took the stage for a headline show in April at New York City's Mercury Lounge. The piece was filmed as a segment for "The Bridge Sessions."

SURPRISE ME MR. DAVIS | THAT MAN EATS MORNING FOR BREAKFAST

Surprise Me Mr. Davis just wrapped a ecstatically energized East Coast run capped off by two very special nights in New York City this past weekend! The band is supporting a new EP, That Man Eats Morning For Breakfast, and while plans are well under way to get back into the studio to record their first full length studio album, this EP, including "Sissyfuss," "Roses In Bottles" and "Joelle," is the place to start.

Pick up the CD direct from RPF | or at iTunes

Surprise Me Mr. Davis, a band that plays a handful of dates a year--schedules permitting in the worlds of Nathan Moore, The Slip and Marco Benevento--is taking on more significance these days. The schedule is busier in 2010 and if all goes as planned will continue to grow.

Upcoming dates are:

April 30 | Hi Ho Lounge | New Orleans

Surprise Me Mr. Davis Announce EP & Tour Dates

The often elusive American rock and roll band SURPRISE ME MR. DAVIS, comprised by members Nathan Moore, Brad and Andrew Barr, Marc Friedman and Marco Benevento, have announced an April 13 release for their long-awaited EP, THAT MAN EATS MORNING FOR BREAKFAST. On the same day, the band will commence their first shows of 2010 with a five date Northeast run that begins in Boston, stops in Providence and Albany, and concludes with back to back nights in Brooklyn and New York City. Later in the month, they'll play two late night shows during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.  SMMD also plans three dates in the Northwest at the end of June before heading to California for two sets at High Sierra Music Festival.

THAT MAN EATS MORNING FOR BREAKFAST, also known to fans as the "demo sessions," took a circuitous route from seed to market. Nathan Moore explains: "I was on my way with Marc Friedman to Montreal where we were going to record in Brad and Andrew Barr's new studio. Unfortunately, I got turned away at the border. We soon found ourselves back in Burlington, Vermont drinking in a bar. Brett Hughes, a local musician there, was like 'just come into my barn studio and do it.' So Brad and Andrew came down this way and we ended up recording there all week at Brett's house. We got all these tracks done and then we went back into another studio and tried to work them up even bigger, but we started to feel that we were exceeding our initial ideas by trying to make them too big. In the end we reverted back to the original demos. They had the raw spirit and energy we were trying to capture. So now it is finally seeing the light of day."

The seven song EP will be available at all major digital retailers, including iTunes, Amazon and Emusic, while a limited edition CD release will be sold exclusively at the band's shows and through their website.

The track listing for THAT MAN EATS MORNING FOR BREAKFAST is:

1. Roses In Bottles
