Release The Sunbird Announces August Tour

After releasing his stunning debut album Come Back To Us (Brushfire Records) under the moniker Release The Sunbird, Zach Rogue of Rogue Wave will be taking his new project out on tour this month. In addition to bringing the new songs to cities for the first time with Release The Sunbird, he will also be playing a very special set at this year’s Outside Lands Festival on August 12th.
Release The Sunbird is a side project, but it’s not. Release The Sunbird a solo project, but it’s not. This musical departure showcases a whole new side of Rogue, and is a re-introduction to an artist you thought you already knew. Rogue, who has spent years on the road with his band Rogue Wave touring with the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Feist, Spoon, Nada Surf, The Shins, Jack Johnson and many others, is one of independent music’s most reliable musical voices. Come Back To Us, which was recorded on a whim in Bloomington, Indiana, is sun-kissed, joyful and one the loveliest you willhear this year.
Live, Zach and vocalist Kate Long deliver captivating performances that are magical and heart-wrenching. Their voices blend together perfectly while singing gorgeous melodies about love, loss, memory, and the deceptive simplicity of hope, as Zach strums along on his guitar. Be sure to catch these remarkable songs live. Dates are listed below.

The New Deal's FINAL Colorado Performance @ Fox Theatre

Z2 Entertainment is proud to present The New Deal at the Fox Theatre on Saturday, July 2nd, 2011.  Tickets go on sale Friday, June 10th for $25.

--

The New Deal has decided that 2011 will mark the end of a spectacular 12-year career.

It has been an amazing run for the band and we appreciate the loyal and dedicated tND fanbase across North America and Asia. Our individual lives have taken very different paths with family, living abroad, and other various projects. We have come to a point where the time and commitment that it takes to maintain our band at its best is no longer possible. As a group, we’ve never been known to go halfway, so we have decided to end things with a great run of summer and fall shows that we hope to be the best yet.

Over the next several months, TND will return to the East Coast. The final Summer and Fall 2011 shows will bring us to many of our favorite places in the US and Canada, and we’re looking forward to finishing things off in a big way.

We look forward to each and every one of these very special shows. Our fans have been fantastically devoted and supportive, and we hope to give them a final run of performances that will be truly memorable.

In addition to the summer shows and festivals already announced, we expect to add a few more dates to give as many fans as possible the opportunity to see us play together one last time.

Halie Loren Releases "In Time (Hope for Healing)" to Benefit Japan Relief Fund

In many countries, the name Halie Loren is not well known.  However, in Japan, the talented Jazz/Pop singer's name is as well known and her CDs and concert tickets sell as well as Norah Jones and other popular singers in similar genres.

The events in Japan over the last few weeks have affected everyone around the world, including Loren. She has turned energies and her talent and popularity in Japan to raise money with an original song called ‘In Time (Hope for Healing)’, that in just a few days has become a major hit.  When asked about the song, Loren said, "I wrote 'In Time (Hope for Healing)' about rising above hardship and sadness, rebuilding our lives, and being even better for all we come through.  I dedicate it to Japan's people, in solidarity with them during their healing process, and in belief that they can once again feel safe and whole."

‘In Time (Hope for Healing)’, which is currently only available on Amazon.JP as a download, donates all money directly to Red Cross Japan and is already the most popular download on the site after only a few days.  Northwest-based Loren has visited Japan three times in the last seven months, most recently playing in support of her latest CD release ‘After Dark’ to sold-out audiences at the Cotton Club and the Blue Note.  She records in Japan for JVC/Victor and in the United States for White Moon Productions distributed by Burnside Distribution.  More information on Halie Loren, including an update on additional websites carrying the song, can be found at www.halieloren.com or by following her on Facebook or Twitter.

Afor-Zep & 56 Hope Road @ the Fox Theatre

Z2 Entertainment is proud to present Afro-Zep & 56 Hope Road at the Fox Theatre on Friday, February 11th.

AfroZep is a collective of Chicago musicians that assemble a few times a year to tour- performing a set of all Led Zeppelin tunes but re-done in the style of Afrobeat and Afropop. Some tunes are straight mash-ups of Fela Kuti and Zeppelin; others are Zep tunes but set to original grooves based off the music of artists such as Tinariwen, Thomas Mapfumo and Franco; and others are stripped down arrangements with tons of added traditional African drumming, like their take on 'When the Levee Breaks' which incorporates a rhythm of Malinke decent, called Soli. Arrangements such as this show how the roots of Plant and Page's songwriting can be traced even further back to the roots of blues music itself. The members of AfroZep have toured and recorded with various artists, such as: Chicago Afrobeat Project, 56 Hope Road, Starrunner, 1000 Vertical Feet, the Motet, Seneke West African Drum and Dance Ensemble, among many other of gospel, big band, jazz, rock and drumming ensembles based out of Chicago. Due to the rigorous schedules of its performers, the Afro-Zep is not a full time project and the band only tours a few times a year.  With their first tour taking place in Nov 2009 the band has already traveled to Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado.

--

56 Hope Road is a band bonded like a family, and as a result, their music has an unmistakable honesty and openness. Uncanny, intuitive communication creates an easy interplay on stage, making even the most layered tunes sound effortless. They allow the joy of spontaneous creativity to color their song-based arrangements - neither losing their musical center, nor restricting its growth. The music is acoustic funk at its finest with sounds reminiscent of G-Love and Special Sauce, Richie Havens, MMW, Grateful Dead, Paul Simon and Gomez. This Chicago-based “acoustic funk explosion” is known for clever songwriting, lush vocal harmonies and one of the tightest rhythm sections on the scene. Formed in 1999, 56 Hope Road is made up of vocalist/guitarist Dave Hamilton, drummer Greg Fundis, upright bassist Chad Sanders, saxophonist Casey Fitzpatrick, and often augmented by vocalist Anne Katzfey, and percussionist Matt Katzfey.

Toubab Krewe Fall 2010 Dates + New Album

From the ragtime piano tinged opener "Mariama" to the percussion fueled, slide guitar glide of "Gine Fare" to the subtle, inviting African echoes of "Konkoba" to the hypnotic, psychedelic slow burn of "Holy Grail," TK2 reveals Toubab Krewe to be rare innovators in a modern age often too ready to settle for more of what's been. Toubab Krewe is happily an exception to this rule, and those willing to take the journey with them are in for one hell of a cool, exciting ride.

"It's five years later since our last studio album, and we've been doing almost nothing but playing together," says Drew Heller. "We've had a lot of time to further our musical relationships. I feel like this album was recorded at a really perfect time. The last track on the new album is an improvisation that was the very first sounds captured, and other things came out of that initial rush."

After that it's full festival mode with stops in Lincoln, NE on May 20th, Festy Fest in Lawrence, KS on May 21st and a one day festival on May 22nd at the always wild and fun Mishawaka Amphitheater with Motorhome, Dead Floyd, Patti Fiasco and the Wirefaces.  We are also making a one day stop at the Nelsonville Music Festival in Ohio with Todd om May 16th and then on to Memorial Festival Weekend at Schwagstock in Salem, MO for two days and Festi Di Bella Vida at beautiful Harmony Park in Geneva, MN (this one is almost sold out folks, 200 hundred tickets left).  We are also lining up a possible Memorial Day afternoon celebration in La Crosse, WI.

Lots of fun stuff lining up for the Summer and beyond.  We're feeling blessed and excited for Spring and Summer here in Taxi land.  Hope all is well in your world.  Don't forget to get your copy of "Reckless Habits" if you haven't already.  We are also helping the campaign for the miners' families who lost men in the Upper Big Branch Mine.  You can download "Appalachian Soul" from our debut record "Streets of Gold" (which will be available again for purchase in two weeks) for free if you promise to make a donation to the miners.  You can find more information out about that at www.greatamericantaxi.com as well as see our first music video and also watch a trailer to the upcoming documentary release "Coul Counrty".  All the very best to all of you.  Hope to see you all soon!

Great American Taxi Donates Track to Coal Miners Relief Fund

Just in time for Earth Day (April 22), Great American Taxi, whose current album Reckless Habits is climbing the Americana radio airplay charts, has donated a free download of a song, “Appalachian Soul” culled from its debut album Streets of Gold, to raise awareness of the plight of coal miners and their communities in West Virginia. The track is offered free to radio stations that agree to direct listeners to GreatAmericanTaxi.com, which in turn links to West Virginia Council of Churches website, which collects donations for the miners.

GAT frontman Vince Herman, who grew up in West Virginia, comments: “Great American Taxi sends our thoughts out to the families and communities effected by the mining disaster at the upper big branch mine. We hope that their unconquerable Appalachian spirit and families can help them navigate these difficult times. The country and the world share in their grief. We need coal.  We need our miners to be safe. We need understanding on all sides of this contentious issue of our national energy policy. We would like to make Taxis' tribute to that  Appalachian spirit available as a download here and suggest a donation to the WV council of churches to assist  the families of our fallen brothers. Let's all come together and honor the families who have paid that ultimate price for our energy needs and hope that this is the last such disaster we must face.”

In the past five years, Great American Taxi has become one of the best-known headliners on the jam band circuit, their uninhibited sound a swinging concoction of swampy blues, progressive bluegrass, funky New Orleans strut, Southern boogie, honky tonk, gospel and good old fashioned rock ’n’ roll. That loose, anything-can-happen feel is the hallmark of Reckless Habits, the band’s second album, which was recorded in Loveland, Colo., with producer Tim Carbone (from Railroad Earth) bringing the feel of an onstage performance to the recording process. The new album was released through Thirty Tigers on March 2, 2010.

Blurt called Reckless Habits “a giddy combination of boogie, blues, bluegrass, nu-grass and honky-tonk, it's as readily infectious and genuinely freewheeling as its eclectic content might imply. Hopefully this Great American Taxi will continue to take listeners along for similarly spirited rides in the future.”  Country Standard Time called it  “a well rounded album that fully pays homage to Gram Parsons and his vision of a cosmic American sound that incorporates all the pages of the American Roots songbook.”

When banjo player Mark Vann of Leftover Salmon died of cancer in 2002, that band desolved. Salmon singer/guitarist/mandolinist Vince Herman had a few rough years and survived a broken neck before joining keyboardist Chad Staehly for a superstar jam to benefit the Rainforest Action Group in Boulder in March 2005. “We put together a dream band of the best local musicians for a one-off gig,” Herman recalls. “It worked so well we had to do it again, and again, and again.” And so Great American Taxi was born. The current lineup includes Herman, Staehly, guitarist Jim Lewin, bassist Brian Adams and drummer Chris Sheldon.
