The Pink Floyd Experience Performs "Animals" Live!

99.5 The Mountain & Westword are proud to announce that The Pink Floyd Experience will be performing Animals in its entirety, plus other classic Pink Floyd songs, at the Boulder Theater on Thursday, March 24th, 2011.

Without question, Pink Floyd remains one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Their record-breaking status is legendary.  The 1977 concept album Animals was a statement regarding the decline of society of the day.  While making the album did set in motion the discord that would eventually destroy the band, the subsequent tour for this release planted the seeds for what would become The Wall. Now, get ready for THE PINK FLOYD EXPERIENCE as they perform Animals live in its entirety! With an even more spectacular light show than before, full quadraphonic sound and six outstanding musicians dedicated to bringing you the most authentic Floyd experience possible, it’s “a must-see for any Pink Floyd enthusiast!” (C-News, Northampton, MA).

Today, years since their last live performance, Pink Floyd’s appeal continues and spans the generations. Their shows were described as theatrical with mind-blowing lights and unsurpassed sound. The show is not only onstage…it engulfs the audience!  In keeping with this tradition, THE PINK FLOYD EXPERIENCE is a full-on sensory assault – interpretive videos, plane crashes, flying pig, helicopter – it’s all there, LIVE!  This is the show for the ultimate Floyd Fan, and it gets closer to the true Pink Floyd concert experience every year!

In addition to Animals, all of Pink Floyd’s greatest hits are performed live including such favorites as “Money,” “Have A Cigar,” “Time,” “Comfortably Numb,” “Run Like Hell” and many rarities not often heard live.

Some Floyd Facts:  More than 200-million albums have been sold since 1967. Four Grammy nominations in the '70s, '80s, and '90s. They were one of the first bands to use pyrotechnics, video, and light shows in their stage acts. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. ”Dark Side of the Moon” broke all chart records when it stayed on the Billboard Top 200 Album charts for 741 weeks. It stayed there from 1973 to 1988. Nearly 1,000,000 Pink Floyd catalog albums are sold each year worldwide.

Don’t miss out!  THE PINK FLOYD EXPERIENCE.

Kyle Park To Release FALL EP on September 21

Country singer Kyle Park, who believes his fans deserve more than one album every 12 months, will release on September 21 his second EP this year that will ultimately become the foundation of a full-length album he will release in 2011.

The featured single from Park’s FALL EP is “All Night,” a love song with smart lyrics about how long it might take to heal a broken heart, with or without a new paramour. Again, Park’s pure country voice and pure country vibe shine through in his modern country, “rock with a twang” style.

Park spent the year touring, and he will continue on the road behind the new release. The recording artist routinely plays 200 shows a year in venues, music festivals and intimate honky-tonks, in all corners of the Lone Star State.

As Robert K. Oermann of MusicRow advises, “Lend him your ears.”

INFECTED MUSHROOM BREAK INTO BILLBOARD TOP 200

For an Israeli-born band plying their own aggressive rock subgenre, known as psy-trance, Infected Mushroom look an awful lot like mainstream artists these days. In fact, they’ve infiltrated the retail, new media and culinary worlds simultaneously.

For one thing, their latest album, Legend of the Black Shawarma (Perfecto Records), has broken into the Billboard Top 200 at #172.  But even more indicative of the raucous, mesmerizing disc’s appeal are its perches at #8 on Billboard’s New Artist chart, #9 on the Current Electronic Albums chart, #32 on Top Indie Albums, #37 on Top Digital Albums and #6 on the iTunes Electronic Albums chart.  The collection’s lead single, “Smashing the Opponent,” features guest vocals by Jonathan Davis of Korn.

All this chart action–-along with the participation of high-profile Shawarma guests like Davis and alternative-rock luminary Perry Farrell, a Pollstar cover story, an appropriately demented iPhone game and an explosive performance at the Burning Man Festival in September (captured in a glorious DUI-style video by director Petro)–-would seem to indicate that the hard-charging Los Angeles-based outfit’s days as an “underground” act are long over.

“If the foundation of a long music career is the ability to evolve,” wrote Pollstar’s Jim Otey in his current cover story, “Infected Mushroom is a band that’s built to last.”

That evolution has included a mystical leap into the gaming world, as “Smashing the Opponent” has been transformed into an iPhone app–featuring the group’s music and artwork based on Jeff McMillan’s Shawarma album art.  As players proceed through the game’s Black Forest setting, they must use an array of weapons to smash various onrushing beasties and uncover the treasure they protect.  The group’s foray into gaming continues with a free featured download of their single in the upcoming game Tap Tap Revenge 3.

Frontman Amit “Duvdev” Duvdevani (who founded the band with keyboardist Erez “I.Zen” Eisen) has remarked that Mushroom originally planned its most recent disc as “a concept album about food,” so it’s only fitting that the Mellow Mushroom pizza chain has unveiled a "Legend of the Black Shawarma" Pizza, served up at participating locations with a free MP3 download. Two of the franchise’s Florida outlets have reportedly had to re-order shawarma spices, suggesting a new kind of Mushroom might be taking hold of the pizza scene.

Infected Mushroom has built a rabid international following since its founders met in 1996, and they now regularly pack clubs and festivals worldwide.  Their explosive live shows, which mesh shredding guitar, pounding live drums and blistering electronic textures and grooves–-with Duvdev’s manic presence and passionate vocals bouncing atop the mixture–-reliably whip audiences into a mad froth.  From the Ultra Music Festival in Miami to the Virgin Festival in Baltimore, from Mexico’s OMIX to California's Coachella, from Brazil’s Ipanema Beach to Melbourne’s Metro Club, the band has averaged about 120 live performances per year.  This year has marked their first recorded performance at Burning Man, where their tribal mayhem looks very much at home–-as witnessed by Petro’s (Incubus, TV on the Radio) video clip.

Judging by the band’s recent moves, the evolution is about to accelerate and the infection is bound to spread.

Umphrey's McGee's Mantis Debuts on the Billboard 200 Chart

Umphrey's McGee's new album, Mantis, debuts at #62 on the Billboard 200 Chart, and #6 on the Indie Chart.  Mantis also reached #25 on the Itunes Album Chart and #9 on the Itunes Rock Chart.

With Mantis' week-of-release sales numbers at more than double that of the band's previous album (The Bottom Half 2005), Umphrey's McGee has defied the record industry's downward trend in sales.  This is due in part to Mantis' innovative digital strategy, where fans who pre-ordered the album gained access to exclusive bonus material, and as more pre-orders were received, fans participated in "unlocking" new levels of content. Billboard Magazine recognized Umphrey's McGee for their creative marketing savvy, calling the Mantis pre-order campaign "...a likely template for emerging and established acts [looking to] kick-start interest in a new release."

Indeed, Umphrey's McGee has forged a new path in digital music delivery by building a grassroots and viral grassroots marketing plan that super-serves their fan base.  The strategy relies on fan support, and is a win- win for both the fans and the band. As Umphrey's McGee guitarist Jake Cinninger explains, "Our fans have always been there for us, and we wanted to return the favor and do something for them. We knew that this was a program that they'd love and that's a good thing, because without them, it wouldn't have worked."  Umphrey's McGee manager Vincent Iwinski adds, "This was certainly an experiment in which we didn't know what would happen, but we are pleased that the fans supported the idea, and ran with it."

In addition to a one-of-a kind pre-order campaign where fans can participate in "unlocking" exclusive bonus material, Mantis incorporates PUSH(TM) technology by Digital Insert to deliver new content throughout 2009.  PUSH requires no software installation or serial number; by simply putting the Mantis CD in your CD-ROM drive, the disc will act as a "key" to an Umphreys.com micro-site where fans get access to exclusive 2009 content as it becomes available.

Mantis is yet another innovative music experience to be offered by Umphrey's McGee, who have proven adaptive and inventive both in music and business over the last 10 years. Through online community building, creative web-based promotions, and open taping policies allowing live music sharing among fans, Umphrey's McGee has harnessed the internet's momentum to spread their music far and wide. The band's download store UMLive.net is an archive of their ever-diverse live performances, hosting downloads of over 300 shows with 750,000 tracks sold since 2004. Umphreys.com hosts the iTunes friendly UM Podcast which releases two 75-minute episodes of live material each month to its 20,000 subscribers. Since 2001, Umphrey's has released soundboard recordings of each night's concert immediately after the show in both physical and digital formats - and each show typically sells upwards of 300 copies per night. The band's unique approach to online and digital distribution, paired with word of mouth buzz, has helped Umphrey's McGee sell out shows nationwide while keeping their fans a top priority.
