Emerging from the swamps of The Blessing and ploughing through the rocky Blues of his solo albums, William Topley delivers an album of acoustic tunes dripping with imagery from across the globe.  Anchored by William’s unique vocal, once praised by legendary Muscle Shoals producer Barry Beckett as the “best he’d ever worked with,” and accompanied by the muscular acoustic guitar of long time musical associtate, Luke Brighty with additional vocals and sterling support from Dorie Jackson, Water Taxi lures you into a world of acoustic wonder.  The track listing features something old, lots of new and all wrapped up in lush vocals, tight harmonies and rich guitar plucking to give you a well rounded and substantial musical feast.  Once again William draws on his traveled past and veracious appetite for new places and adventures to take the listener on a journey that will transport you from the mundane and humdrum to exotic climes on a with dangerous women and liquor, without leaving the comfort of your home.

Water Taxi features acoustic versions of two of William’s back catalogue namely Delta Rain from The Blessing’s first record, Prince of Deep Water and Sweetheart from their second record, Locusts and Wild Honey, which will be familiar to current William fans.  The album starts with Hummingbird (co-write with leading Nashville writer Daryl Burgess), followed by Stony Ground with a lyric delivered from a window staring moment from the back of William’s house.  Water Taxi relates the tale of William’s journeys from the Bahamas to Denver and Trouble Comes At Night is a diary from the last band tour he undertook in the US.  Spanish Waters continues William’s exploration of John Masefiel’s poetry and Watch The Wall is another Hemmingway style adventure, co-written with Toby Tyler.  After Delta Rain, I’ll Be Gone feature Luke on Spanish guitar and the mood abruptly shifts for Luck Don’t Change, which is a minute of Acapella, which should be longer.  Don’t Do That No More is another co-write with Gary Nicholson and Delbert McLinton, which runs into Sweetheart and brings the album to a conclusion.

The Mimi Fishman Foundation announces two donations were issued April 29 to the Tuscaloosa, AL area to help the tornado victims. The Foundation donated $2,500 to Hands On Birmingham’s Disaster Relief program and $2,500 to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society’s Disaster Response program.

In addition the Foundation recently hosted a pair of auctions that raised over $6,600 for Rock The Earth and over $5,100 for Phish’s WaterWheel Foundation.

The Foundation also just launched a new charity auction that predominantly features items donated by Phish. Two items are certain to generate quite a bit of interest, one of which includes joining Phish drummer Jon Fishman for lunch, the other is the actual black kick drumhead – with Phish logo – and signed by all members of Phish. In addition the auction features signed drumsticks and drumheads used during Phish 2010 shows.

The on-line auction is currently live with the bidding coming to close on Tuesday, May 24.

Marianne Faithful will release her 23^rd album, Horse and High Heels, in the US  on June 28^th via Naïve Records.  The collection of songs consists of four originals and eight covers ranging from Carol King’s “Going Back” to Greg Dulli & Mark Lanegan’s “The Stations.”  Four of the tracks feature virtuosic guitarist John Porter (Eric Clapton, The Smiths) while Lou Reed and Dr. John/MC5’s Wayne Kramer each make cameos on multiple songs.

Iconic, influential, and inimitable, Marianne has been an entrancing and creative musical presence for the past 47 years.  Beginning with her debut single, “As Tears Go By” (1964, the first song ever written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards), Marianne has created an enduring legacy with her distinct, emotive, and truly haunting voice.   She has also established herself as a powerful songwriter with a gift for crafting visceral melodies and deeply resonant lyrics.  Her artistic fearlessness has led her to sing with legends like David Bowie and Metallica, and collaborate with a younger generation of musicians she influenced such as Beck, Morrissey, Billy Corgan and Blur.

Horses and High Heels was recorded in New Orleans and features a core of masterful local musicians.  It was produced by Hal Willner (Laurie Anderson, Allen Ginsberg), who also helmed Marianne’s critically-acclaimed 2009 collection of covers and duets: Easy Come, Easy Go. Celebrating its 15th year, and its 10th year in Preston County, WV, the All Good Music Festival is proud to announce a fundraiser for the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department.  While the festival brings excitement and revenue, not to mention great music, to the county, the county in turn supports the thousands of fans with essential and life-protecting services. Now, All Good presents this benefit fundraiser in gratitude to the brave men and women who have served as unpaid first responders to any emergency.

The May 13 event will be held at the Purple Cow Lounge in Morgantown and features up and coming bands, Fletcher’s Grove from Charleston, and Morgantown-based group, The Greens. Not only are 100% of the ticket sales revenues raised going to the Fire Department, the All Good Festival will match the amount raised, dollar for dollar.

All Good Festival organizer Tim Walther notes “We appreciate the thankless efforts and support of the men and women of the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department throughout the years and are delighted to present this fundraiser to benefit what they do best. We hope that the money we raise will assist the MVFD in serving their community to the best of their ability.”

The festival is held at Marvin’s Mountaintop the weekend of July 14-17 and features over 40 bands performing over 40 hours of music with such national acts as Furthur featuring Phil Lesh & Bob Weir, Primus, moe., Umphrey’s McGee, John Butler Trio, STS9 and dozens more. The festival hosted a record breaking attendance in 2010, and the event is one of the highlights of West Virginia’s tourism industry by selling tickets in all 50 states as well as a half dozen other countries.

“We appreciate the patience and support that we have received from the residents of Masontown throughout the years, and we are glad that we can give something back that will benefit the community,” Tim Walther.

From bars to barn parties, Fletcher’s Grove has been making its way into the music scene ever since 2006.  With their eclectic roots, this band combines tight vocal harmonies with a soulful-jamming-jazz-influenced guitar duo, backed up by a slapping bass and a driving drum ensemble. The Greens play Rock-n-Roll as if Cream was from West Virginia but that’s not all.  With 10 years of versatility in song writing and live-performance, this band is growing on you. Come see West Virginia’s hottest up-and-coming bands while supporting Preston County’s hard-working heroes!

WYWH sees The Concretes in their new incarnation- former drummer Lisa Milberg has stepped out from behind the kit to take over lead vocals after the departure of Victoria Bergsman.
